Is there anyway to get rid of the status bar? Since using Safari I can't stand having that there on any other browser. I love Safari's simplicity.

well the isafari Firefox theme is pretty good if you want simplicity.... but the status bar is still there..

Not sure if it can be ditched.

It does? Where?

I don't see where the UI "integration" comes into play. Ok, so they have a theme that kinda sorta maybe goes with Leopard. Doesn't even have an inactive state (including the scroll bar apparently). Buttons are still funky looking. Well, it is a beta...

I use safari and don't use firefox but downloaded this beta. All I can say is until I can open links and pages in a new page by holding command I won't be switching.

Thats why FF has Extensions - tried this?

OS integration...

*looks at Firefox 3 beta*

Same old ugly appearance!

Try installing this this:

I've been using this theme all day and aside from a few minor glitches, this is a beautiful theme. Can't wait for it to be the default for OSX - bye bye fugly FF, hello Leopard-esque native widget goodness!

Your wallpaper sucks.. and wtf at MSN messenger? No adium in your dock?

You have bigger problems than browsing... :D
Thank you for the lovely comments. :)

So my taste is different then yours, it's my desktop, not yours. And once Adium gets proper Custom Emoticon support and improve their MSN Protocol, I'll switch to it.

does the Tabs Mix Plus extension work on the beta yet? If so, I'm getting it asap :)

It does if you install the nightly developer tools, select "make all compatible" under add-ons, then get the latest beta build of TMP. I'm using it right now. The status bar in each tab doesn't look too hot, so I turned it off, but everything else is good.

One of the main reasons I use firefox instead of safari is the auto-complete in the google search bar. Start typing a search term, and it'll pull up potential matches. Also works as a handy calculator.

Also the back button is lousy in safari..

Allow me to elaborate lol.

It refreshes when you hit back.. instead of relying on your cache or whatever.... thats annoying to say the least.. unless there is a way to disable that that i don't know about.

thanks for the info :)

i am using it currently...will not work with windows live mail beta...some pages will not load. i am thinking of going back to firefox 2 untell this is improved:mad:

does it use keychain?

does it feel more mac like?

Yep, that's what I've been waiting for too. I used Firefox on Windows, and did for a long time while I switched to mac, but ultimately Safari is my favorite browser now simply because it's "mac-like", something that makes sense, and that I've grown accustomed to.

Firefox on the mac feels like a Windows browser.

.....I thought I misunderstood the question, lol... please people, go through the menu yourself first, there are many things you can adjust in firefox's menu or options, much more than safari offers.

I think its google's suggestion function, in addition to firefox's search history.

firefox on the mac should be what camino is, and there will be even more of a fork between the two by the time camino 2 ships.

camino and webkit for me

Won't even launch for me, it just sits there bouncing in the Dock before timing out and spits out a nice crash log.

I downloaded the Firefox 3 Beta this morning and it does indeed seem snappier and, although I've run into a couple of bugs, it hasn't crashed on me at all. I'm pleased.

I go out of my way to turn the status bar on in Safari. I like to hover over a link to look at the link before I go there sometimes. Keeps me from following worthless ads.

I'll switch to Safari when there's a single-window mode and an ad blocker. I know there are workaround for single-window mode, but the process of implementing it was very un-mac-like, imo.

Have a look at Tinker Tool if you want rollover URLs. It has an option to make Safari overlay linked URLs when you rollover links without the need to have an ugly status bar.

Installing SafariStand and clicking a box may be 'un-mac-like', but it takes a minute, and lasts until you untick it, giving single-window-mode.

Although its not free, Pith is a fantastic ad-blocker :)

And here is Inquisitor, the plug-in that switched me from Firefox...
