View > Uncheck "Status Bar"
Apparently I knew that because when I opened FF2 it was already off. Wow, I guess I haven't used FF in a long, long time. Sorry about that folks. However, I do know at one time that you couldn't get rid of it.

I go out of my way to turn the status bar on in Safari. I like to hover over a link to look at the link before I go there sometimes. Keeps me from following worthless ads.
That's what Cmd+/ is for. :D

Have a look at Tinker Tool if you want rollover URLs. It has an option to make Safari overlay linked URLs when you rollover links without the need to have an ugly status bar.
Wow, I have a very old version of TT. Thanks for update.

[Edit]
After using FF3b for a bit I remember that I hate FF's two finger scrolling because it scrolls by line and not per pixel as Safari (and the rest of OS X) does. Also, on a 12" PB Safari 3 is a lot faster loading and equally as fast when loading pages ... especially if you use a utility like TinkerTool to get rid of the delay before the page shows up. It takes the same amount of time but since you can see the content loading it seems faster, although with less polish.

Maybe it's just me, but I found FF3 to be MUCH slower than Safari 3 on my 1.83 Macbook with 2 GB RAM.

I'll keep it around for a while, but I'm not impressed...

Whats up with the menu...

Firefox File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Window Help File

At least Adblock Plus still works with it.

One of the main reasons I use firefox instead of safari is the auto-complete in the google search bar. Start typing a search term, and it'll pull up potential matches. Also works as a handy calculator.

Why not get http://www.inquisitorx.com/safari/

Does anyone know if it's possible to restore the ability to click once on the site's favicon and have it highlight the text in the location bar instead of bringing up the site info?

I like the GrApple theme over the prototype, I prefer the more "real" looking buttons, but I like the prototypes tabs, and plus the Fission plugin (Loading bar in the address bar like safari) works.

I really like this edition of Firefox, I never really keep my mind steady on one browser. This thing is really fast, finally feels like an OS X program too. Keychain isn't really that big to me since this Mac is pretty new, and I've never been a huge user of it anyway. It now uses the OS X dictionary and spell check instead of the Firefox one, another step. Hopefully in 3.5 (?) we'll see keychain support though.

There are some annoying graphical bugs like how it looks the same when it's active and inactive.

Firefox 3 really does bring it all together for me, but I'll probably hold out fully switching until a more final release (and when plugin developers catch up)

Also is it possible for Firefox to do what Safari does to dmgs? I'd like it to automatically mount it and erase the other disk, not a big deal though.

I've switched over to Firefox just for the betas to see how it progresses. So far it is not too bad except I have a second File menu which is a bit annoying. Apart from that everything seems to be working well. Just hoping that Fasterfox gets updated reasonably soon.

I just swiched to FF3 today and so far I love it. Yeah the second file menu is there but I dont really care. It doesnt bother me. I dono if other people was having this but my safari would always lock up when I have multiple tabs open. I also have leopard running. Thats one of the reasons why I switched.

Things Safari needs for me to switch from FF 2.x:

Free (as in beer) ad blocking
Mouse Gestures (cocoagestures does not work anymore)
Less suckage.

You don't need an adblocking extension for Safari to block ads. Just use a custom css file to block the ads. Formerly Goodvibrations now Ad subtract at: http://code.google.com/p/adsubtract/ does a really good job. Just install and point safari to the style sheet and voila no ads.

just installed

just installed it-finally! my impressions so far:
-it's FAST. very fast.
-transferring my info from my old profile was cake and everything but my extensions seems to work great.
-not wild about the default theme or the proto theme. proto especially still needs a lot of work as the address bar is way too big and google search bar is pretty wonky looking. can't wait til iaqua or something similar works with it.
-missing a couple of features: tab preferences-can't choose how/when to open tabs instead of loading in the current one. i want TMP, i guess. i love that extension! the other is cookie management. WHY can't you choose to only accept cookies from the site you're visiting like every other browser does??? if anyone knows a workaround, i'd love to here it. i use cookie safe in FF2 but it isn't compatible, of course.
-and lastly, i'm such a dunce! i made a backup profile like i was suppose to and then got distracted by my kids and transferred my info to the new profile instead of copying it. DOH!!! :( looks like i'm stuck using minefield now. hope it's as stable as people have said...

Ok did I get a defective copy or something?

From the time I opened it until the time it opened my homepage (Google), it was like 20-25 seconds. Clicking bookmarks seemed to take forever as well.

I'm on a 1.83 Macbook, 2 GB RAM, not much else running.

on the puter in my sig, it took all of about 5 seconds to launch with 4 tabs open. my google home page load very very quickly. that's the only site i've visited today that i can really compare. i will say, yahoo doesn't seem to like it...it told i was using an unrecognized browser. ;) but besides that, it's been great so far.
