If they are illegal, call the cops.

If they are legal, you have to live with it unfortunately.

Not sure what else to tell you

"Call the cops"

That's your response? Really?
You and I both know that nothing but nothing is going to happen. When the entire city is a Warez one and there's complaints up the wazoo, do you really think they will come out?

That's a rather pathetic response.

And the whole point of this is to get your thinking just how self-centered all this is and perhaps we need to rethink this.

You feel you have the right to make loud explosions because "tradition".

Self centered is a matter of perspective.

You wishing to dictate to others how they can celebrate a holiday to satisfy your preference may be considered "self centered"

And yes, calling the cops is your recourse if you don't like it.

One day you'll get this. One day you'll find that either you, or a loved one of affected by this. Then you'll understand. Then you too will start to see this in a different light.

Until then, do as you will. Just blows my mind that your desire to make loud explosions for 3-4 weeks each year, explosions that can be heard and felt multiple blocks away, will directly affect the health and welfare of your fellow Americans.

The fact that, even having been told the direct effect of all this hasn't shifted your moral needle one little bit does indeed give me cause for concern and reminds me of how much America is turning into a "Me me me" nation.

Let's not bother with caring about how our actions can adversely effect societies most vulnerable. As long as you're having fun, that's apparently all that matters. No matter what the cost.

3-4 weeks? what on earth are you talking about? exaggerate much? More like two days

And yes, there are other things that people do that I would prefer they don't but I am not raising a fit about it.

"Me me me" argues the person wishing to dictate how others celebrate a holiday. Seems ironic

Oh whatever. It's been getting worse since May: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...nts-us-july-4-macys-new-york-city/3283171001/

And if you believe that people only do fireworks for 2 days, then I've a real nice oceanfront property in Oklahoma to sell to you...

Honestly I do not care. It is one day a year that has been associated with fireworks for decades. If people have issues, then remove yourself from that environment for the day. The 4th of July shouldn't be sneaking up on anyone and surprising people if they hear fireworks
Large part of it is that it's not one day at all but many days over a period of weeks and this year even months. It's also mostly not something that's related to a day or even evening or early part of night, but often enough most of the night including the middle of it and even early parts of the early morning.

As far as "removing" oneself, given that this is fairly widespread and has been even more so this year, doesn't appear like that's really an option, and that's without factoring in this year's situation of mostly not being able to be elsewhere (which is often enough hard enough for many at normal times anyway). All of that is basically ignoring that someone has to do something that they don't need to do in order to accommodate others who are doing what they are usually are even allowed to do.

Sad thing is that if you say anything to anyone then you’re seen as a killjoy and anti-American.

A few years back one of our neighbors was lighting fireworks on the cul-de-sac (mainly because their backyard is chock full of stuff like above ground pool, enormously oversized deck, trampoline etc.)

When I went over to complain their response was to throw one of the fireworks at me and laugh their heads off.

They were at it again last night and were within seconds of having one go off as car came up the road. I can only begin to imagine the result if it had. Didn’t stop them, they just kept on going.
Exactly to all of this.

We have neighbors that get drunk and shoot them off in the street. Every year I worry someone's roof will catch fire. But for me, the worst part is all the animals the fireworks wreak havoc with. The stress and anxiety it can and does cause some pets, is incredibly sad.

It's been going for months in L.A. I'm way past being over it. As are most neighbors. They are illegal here. As for calling the police, nothing happens so we're on our own.

Apparently all the pet owners need to leave their houses for the July 4th holiday and join all the other self-centered klljoys such as PTSD suffering vets etc in the desert so patriotic Americans can light explosives to commerate the birth of our nation.

Barely heard a thing standing outside. Of course the wind changed pattern and it smelled like a gun range after a round of firing for most of the night.

And not even for just the 4th, but apparently for weeks at a time. And that's all now during a pandemic too where leaving the house and staying somewhere are certainly not only reasonable but widely available options.

Pennsylvania actually legalized all consumer fireworks 3 years ago and the complaints are flooding city police departments for the reasons above. Laws are being proposed to make explosive and aerial fireworks illegal again.
Unfortunately legal or illegal doesn't really change much one way or another without actual enforcement which isn't happening for the most part (more than likely for a variety of reasons).

It seems like to many, or at least plenty, freedom and liberty somehow means that anyone can pretty much do whatever they want.

There was enforcement before aerial fireworks were legalized. I've been at a few gatherings when those fireworks were illegal and the police came and were not happy. The fire chiefs frown on airborne sparks landing on trees and houses.

Not here in SW Ohio sadly. WWIII and not a cop or a fire truck to be seen, despite all airborne fireworks being illegal.

What I want to know is when did we become so self-centered as a collective to allow this?

My guess would be around 1776 🤷‍♂️

On a serious note I remember fireworks in the early 80's were significantly more than they are today so it's not new. Have you tried noise canceling over the ear headphones? They work great to block out sound. If you think fireworks are crazy here you should visit Germany on new years day. They have huge fireworks that I've never seen for sale in the USA. At the end of the night there are huge piles of expended fireworks in the road. It's not just 'merica as people like to say.

BTW I haven't bothered to pop off fireworks since I was a kid. I just watch them now.

More like two days
Friday night: fireworks
Saturday night: fireworks
Tonight (Sunday): Yup - fireworks again tonight. 10:20pm on a work night for most people and bangers are still going off.

Remind me again on how this was a 2 night event...

Ok, I’ll bite.

First, Tiggr, I love it when people try to hide behind babies, and veterans, and “the vulnerable”. Gimme a break!! That’s just nonsense. Tell me just how much of the population that actually is? 1 percent?? More or less??

And then PETS?? Don’t get me started. The stray “pets” wreak more havoc on the babies and children of the world than a few nights of fireworks does. I’ve seen the stories of someone’s “pet” pit bull who “would never hurt anyone” go bounding across the street to tear the arm off of some 3 year old minding their own business.

Does it even bother you all the people rioting in the streets and tearing down statues, because of one person being killed by some rogue police officers? Talk about causing mayhem - THAT’s the mayhem you should be concerned about. THAT’S the kind of illegal business that cops really should be concerned with. But no, they turn a blind eye to all that nonsense.

I’ve really got no use for people like you. I like my fireworks. I give you about 362 nights of peace per year. Let me have fun for a couple.

Happy Independence Day!!!

Keep America Great!!!

I always like to post this reminder to my social media accounts on the morning of Independence Day and New Year’s Eve as well.

Certainly the privilege of someone enjoying powerful and loud fireworks in the middle of residential neighborhoods at 2 AM over multiple nights during a period of weeks should override any rights of anyone else who would actually dare to do something outrageous and unusual like sleep in the middle of the night.

Abs that’s the myth of “America, the caring” all summed up in one self-righteous post.

i love fireworks. They are illegal here too but you wouldn't be able to tell. Heck, the cops don't even enforce.
Nope. TV News asked if there were any arrests or fines. PD said we don't have that data available. Obviously, they're hoping that there won't be a follow-up by that reporter today.

People are only human. We have different events going on in the world and you can choose to see people that do caring things or people that do not so caring things. I’ve had my truck break down on the side of the road and no one bothered to stop to help but I’ve also been broken down and people came out of the woodwork to help. Sometimes you can’t change things but you can make the best of the situation. You may not be able to stop people from popping off fireworks but you can block the noise out with headphones. Don’t be blind to the negative out there but try not to focus on just that. Happy people live longer anyways 😂

If it were but that easy. Headphones can only go so far, and you can’t really wear them to bed.
Babies can’t wear headphones, and veterans with PTSD react differently still.

The worst part is that is that all my issues revolve around illegal activity.

Not one of these fireworks I talk of were legal in the State of Ohio.

The police turn a blind eye, partially because it’s everywhere and partially because the penalties are so minuscule that it’s not financially worth pursuing.

Yes, call the cops is a valid response. They might not come out, and they might be responding to other calls, but each call ends up in stats which are then used for evaluations on enforcement. I also highly recommend to email the Mayor, your City Council person, and if you have one your City Manager. It might feel like a drop in the ocean, but it does make a difference.

Oh I did. Have done for several years.I even brought it up with one of our council members when we were both working together on a project. His response was that I shouldn’t hold my breath expecting change...
