I’m with the pezmeister or whatever his name is. Everyone loves fireworks. Some just don’t want to admit it or just want to spoil other people’s fun.

Nice of you to assume you know how everyone feels.

Your desire to dumb the argument down notwithstanding, there are many people who do not like fireworks. And, contrary to your simplistic argument, it has nothing to do with spoiling other people’s fun.

Tell me, if my idea of a good time is to drive past your house at 12am, horn blaring, or having Wagners “Ride of the Vakeries” blasting out, just right as the Valkerie sisters of Brüunhilde sing their battle cry, I wonder if you’ll just chuckle to yourself saying “Hey, there’s that rascally Tiggr just having fun!” or would you get annoyed and demand I stop?

How about your grandparents house?

My grandparents are all dead, so that’s a nonstarter.

And ask anyone that knows me — I can sleep through ANYTHING!! Once I’m out, I’m OUT!! So I guess what I’m saying is, be my guest, drive on by blasting whatever ya damn well please.

Oh whatever. It's been getting worse since May: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...nts-us-july-4-macys-new-york-city/3283171001/

And if you believe that people only do fireworks for 2 days, then I've a real nice oceanfront property in Oklahoma to sell to you...
Maybe where you are. Certainly not where I am.
Friday night: fireworks
Saturday night: fireworks
Tonight (Sunday): Yup - fireworks again tonight. 10:20pm on a work night for most people and bangers are still going off.

Remind me again on how this was a 2 night event...
its 2 nights where I live. Not sure why you want to argue this point?

By all means do it. I'll call the cops, which is what I am suggesting you do.

Hey, you were the one insisting it was a two night event. And, as I, and others here, have stated, this year it's been bad since May/June.

So, happy for you that it's only 2. Don't kid yourself that you're the rule, and not the exception.

Since May.....really now? I think you are a bit long in exaggeration if you make the claim such as this and state subsequently that cops will not come out if it is truly that ongoing and constant.

Yes. Since late May, early June. For real.

Your personal incredulity aside, this has been documented by numerous news sources.

For example:

You all really do complain about everything/anything
With justification though.

The voice of authority and spokesperson for the entire population right here lol

You’re welcome.

I’ll give you a shout next time the local chavs are enjoying a few drinks and setting fireworks off at 3am because unlike the rest of us, they haven’t got work in the morning or at any point in their lives lol. You can come and advise how much fun it is and why watching a colourful bang in the sky is so cool. ;)

Here it started around the time of the George Floyd protests at the end of May, continued through June, culminated on the 4th of July and tonight and the night before I've heard almost nothing. Guess it's finally over.

Last night was quiet as well, but I fear that was more down to the flooding rainstorm that parked itself over us rather than anything else...

No, as this thread should have already abundantly made more than clear, "everyone" does not necessarily like fireworks.

Some love them, some (with good reason) loathe them, while others believe that their use should be both limited and strictly controlled.

As for me, as I have already written, I like my fireworks with lots and lots and lots of government (local or central) regulation and control and oversight: Regulation that is enforced, and that means regulation as to who can buy them (no teenaged males, or, no teenaged males in the absence of adults capable of controlling them, or taking responsibility for them), regulation as to when ("when" means an agreed and enforced time when they start and when they stop) they can be used, regulation as to where ("where" means no residential areas, please, and not in an area where they might prove to be a fire hazard) they can be used, and regulation that specifies that they can only be used when that use is overseen and supervised by an appropriately qualified expert.

I love fireworks. My wife loves them, my son now loves them (he’s 2.9 yrs old). He asked where all of the fireworks are that evening of July 5th. I explained to him about July 4th 1776, and how our fellow countrymen shoot loud, smoky, beautiful fireworks in celebration of our Independence from the Crown & in symbolism of “bombs bursting in air“ - a line in the Star Spangled Banner if you were unaware.

I don’t have a problem with it as the act celebrates a defining part of our history - that is unless we think we should Listen to a few loud mouths & erase this away as well. :D (that previous statement was in jest) Anyhow, my little American’s favorite color is red. It will be interesting to See what his little brother’s fav color will be - he’s 8mo.

As far as the legality of aerial fireworks, here in my neck of the woods, it depends on what county you live in. Of course no one adheres to that, the native reservations sell boatloads of illegal aerials to everyone, and law enforcement does little IME to enforce said laws.

And no one is burning Their neighbors houses down. We had a few brush fires but nothing serious - happens every year just like brush fires from ppl flicking cigarettes out their car windows.

If Government was serious about regulating it, they would regulate not the people who would buy them but the people who would sell them. Regulate the commercial & retail source. Of course govt is not going to do that as our big head needs votes lol.

I like big city firework displays. 1 night that is scheduled well in advance for 20-30 minutes. Usually never on a work night unless it is rescheduled for rain. Most people can deal with that if they live within earshot or make arrangements to leave the area during the fireworks.

And they’re actually cool.

I loathe dad and grandpa putting on their own display in the driveway. Happens sporadically all night for up to a week. I think dark thoughts about those people.

No one is suggesting that. However some folk like to we want to take them away so they can then feel they’re being persecuted as a result.

In the meantime why don’t you go speak to some veterans with PTSD and ask them for their feelings on the matter.

Veterans put their lives on the line for you to have the freedom to make big booms.

Everyone loves fireworks.

The fact that people love something doesn't mean that it should be done recklessly.
I think most people would agree on having fireworks, supervised by professionals, on July 4th and NYE, for an hour or so. And we all agree that fireworks at specific events (opening night at games, etc.) is fine as long as they are organized by the authorities on specific nights.
A war zone for a full week? No, especially since I have to go to work and let me tell you, lately I am effing tired since I basically had no break since this Covid thing started.

Yes, I was being facetious hence the smiley laughing icon. You are correct however in pointing out that my words were not clear about that - which I will fix. Anyhoo, multiple veterans in my family and Ive had a few military dogs that would cower under a car or truck at events. I am certainly sensitive to the needs of servicemen however I would not alter the majority of 300+ million citizen's national celebration expectation & practice for the needs of a few servicemen. I am confident that my Great grandpa (WWI infantry Purpleheart recipient), my grandpa (WWII navy veteran) and uncle (Vietnam era airforce) would agree with me 100% on this.

For the record I absolutely LOVE seeing a family celebrate our independence as a family unit lighting off cones and whatnot n sparklers for the kiddos in the front drive. They get it. The only thing that is even better is a cal de sac or block celebration but you don't see that too much anymore.

Oh Jeez, you guys don’t think those kids bought enough just for the fourth didja?!? :D

While I don't mind the 4th. Around here the 4th seems to include the entire week before and after people blow up fireworks. There are also a ton of fireworks on New Years. Along with the preceding and proceeding weeks.

If that isn't enough pretty much every major holiday. You can hear fireworks. Memorial Day, Labor Day, St. Patrick's Day, Flag Day, random days. Basically you can go buy and use fireworks any time of the year. So, if there is a holiday celebrated by drinking. Which seems to be all of them. People are going to set off fireworks.

It's annoying sometimes. But it doesn't bother me that much. It's about as annoying as hearing all the rumbling V8 engines off in the distance on Friday and Saturday nights. Which are all effectively blocked when my windows are closed.

It's been relatively quiet most of the week since last weekend, and then pretty much completely randomly a few loud explosions past 1 AM out of nowhere in a quiet residential area. I would wonder what people might be thinking, but I realize that they really aren't.
