iPhone design has always been about holding stuff back for the future so that they’ve got something to offer the next year and the next and the next - forever.

Clearly this Slot & Dot blemish on the display is only an evolutionary step towards getting rid occlusions on the display entirely.
That feature (unobstructed display) is rumored to premiere on the iPhone 36

Apple should just release two phones going forward… go back to the 6 and 6 Plus days, keep it simple.

IMHO, the notch looks better, cleaner, and gets in the way of nothing.

If this true, I am sure we'll get used to it quickly, but not sure why there was a need to get rid of something that is already widely accepted, expected, and part of a design language.

If anything, the notch is more of an issue on the MacBook Pros, but only because it's bigger than it needs to be (probably for future implementation), and it does eat into some Menu Bar territory with default resolutions.

Ahh these comments take me back to the iPhone X rumor days when the leaks pointed to the notch and everyone was in a tizzy about how “fugly” it was. Then after a while people for the most part stopped caring because at the end of the day, it’s a smartphone.

Kinda cool seeing history repeat itself.

I feel having a pill and circle shapes will be just as distracting as the notch unless they can make some part of it underscreen rather than black holes. Also can we just move to USB-C so I only need 1 cable to charge everything please.
Except the notch isn't distracting at all. ?‍♂️

That would be silly, you would only have 2 price points and not everyone wants an $800 phone.
Apple became insanely popular with releasing one phone each year and I’m only speaking of in the fall… Apple always drops prices of last year models as well. And then theres the SE at the beginning of the year.

I think it's odd to keep the same processor on non-pro models. It would be basically the contrary of iPhone SE, keeping the internals and just upgrading the exterior and cameras.
That probably helps take the pressure off of getting everything on the latest process. It’s probably a lot harder for Apple to lock in enough of TSMC’s latest fabs to cover the entire iPhone lineup on day one.

Looks alright, I guess. Just enough to differentiate it from the 13 but nothing ground-breaking again.

The latest chip usually enables new computational photography features. I wonder how they will market the regular iPhone if it's locked out of such features. Or maybe it will mysteriously not need the new hardware for them to work this time around.

I still don't see how or why they bothered to change the notch last time if they were going to go to a cut out the year after. I am more keen for improvements in other areas though.
