every year you have a new phone. I don't understand this hesitation. if u want it just buy. we all maybe dead next year anyway.
He's basically said the non Pro iPhone 14 are nothing more than an iPhone13 that's being rebranded as a iPhone14. So why would a person want to upgrade to one.
The iPhone14 Pro/ProMax would be the phone that has the newer chip, camera and ! or i screen

I'm here to represent fans of the Mini. Please keep the smaller form factor!
I usually buy a new phone every year, but I bought a 13 mini fully expecting it would be the last iPhone I buy for a long time. I'm glad people who want giant phones have the option to buy them, but I'd frankly prefer something even smaller than the mini.

If the pill and circle would have been positioned closer together to end up with a slightly larger pill, the screen real estate wold have been put to better use. This way that gap between them is wasted space. I think that Apple went with this design just to be different and to know what phone is from a mile away. Marketing and branding over function.

I can't be the only one that thinks this is leaps and bounds better than the notch?
It is. People will complain simply because it's different, but this is way better. Being able to see all the way to the top of the display creates the illusion of being able to see the entire display.

The only concern would be playing video. Whereas the notch is part of the black edge, which simply juts into content, it could be harder to ignore these shapes floating inside of video content. This is why yesterday's report from 9to5 makes some sense to me. Their source says the Pro devices with this pill shape will actually be taller, adding extra screen space to house this sensor area, similar to what Apple did on the MacBook Pro. If true, it could mean the sensor area is no longer used for fullscreen content by default.

I quite like the dash-dot, it looks like the speaker grill and camera from earlier iPhone designs. This is going to be a really weird release though with the 14/ 14 Max still being a gen 15 iPhone with precious few upgrades over the 13, and the Pro just getting a small chip update and cosmetic tweak to the display. Or at least I'm guessing the overdue camera resolution bump has also disappeared from expectations if the camera module isn't changing? Maybe they're relying on the new size 14 Max to drive sales, and know there will be an audience for their latest and greatest Pro phones no matter how minor the upgrades are?

It looks great, even better if it was just a singular hole.

I appreciate pixels being returned.

Apple likely wants to keep the starting price at $699, same as the current mini. To get a 6.1 inch phone there requires they provide a great product, but it will need to be less expensive to manufacture. By using the iPhone 13 Pro A15 version, and enhanced cameras, and likely some other enhancements, they can do it. This would mean a $100 price reduction for the 6.1 inch iPhone 14. (They may even have a 4nm A15 version, which would provide some performance improvement.) My prediction is that overall the iPhone 14 will have somewhat superior performance compared to the iPhone 13 by a bit. Further, having a 6.7 inch phone at the same price point, $799, as the current 6.1 inch would likely be “hugely” popular. Apple knows what they are doing.

It's not "over function". Function is not taking a hit here in any way. It's marketing and branding over minimalist design. As a user you prefer the most minimal design possible so the phone gets out of the way of the content. As a product, it is essential that Apple maintain some form of identity.

if true this could legitemitally be one of Apple's worse design choices if not the worst

India-based tech blog 91Mobiles posted a series of renders on Wednesday that it claims are based on leaked factory CAD images of Apple's upcoming iPhone 14 Pro.

Apple is widely expected to remove the notch on the Pro models in the iPhone 14 series, and the images offer an idea of how Apple's flagship device will look with hole-punch and pill-shaped cutouts near the top of the display.

Converging rumors and leaks have indicated that in the absence of a notch, a hole will be used for the Face ID dot projector, while the pill-shaped cutout will supposedly house the front camera and Face ID infrared camera. The CAD images show that the speaker grille will remain embedded in the top bezel.

Contrary to one rumor, the rear of the device looks largely unchanged from the iPhone 13 Pro, with the triple-lens array housed in a camera bump that protrudes from the chassis. In September, YouTube leaker Jon Prosser claimed the iPhone 14 will have a thicker chassis allowing for no camera bump, with the lenses, LED flash, and LiDAR Scanner sitting flush with the rear glass, but that is not what is shown here.

Prosser's sources also claimed that the new models will have round volume buttons and redesigned speaker and microphone grilles, but again, these latest CAD renders only show the same oblong buttons and grilles that iPhone users will already be familiar with.

Apple is expected to release four iPhone 14 series models this year, consisting of two 6.1-inch and two 6.7-inch sizes, thus dropping the "mini" variant that we saw in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series. The hole-punch and pill-shaped cutouts are only expected to be featured on the highest-end ‌iPhone 14‌ variants, while the two lower-end ‌iPhone 14‌ models will continue to feature a notch.

It has also been claimed Apple will seek to differentiate Pro and non-Pro further this year, in that only the Pro models will get a new A16 Bionic processor, whereas the non-Pro models will feature the same A15 processor found in the iPhone 13 series.

The latter rumor is particularly intriguing, especially coming from reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The last time Apple re-used a previous-generation processor in a new flagship iPhone model, you have to go back to the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G, both of which used identical 412MHz ARM 11 chips. For everything we know about the ‌iPhone 14‌, see our comprehensive roundup.

They are not going to make the 14 enough thicker to have no camera bump. At least with the current camera thickness. That would be too thick / heavy overall. If they come up with new camera tech / packaging that allows a more shallow camera, then they may increase the phone thickness a tiny bit if it is close.

I hope they don’t go to round volume buttons. They would be smaller and harder to press. Though they would indeed look nice.

And most of all, I hope they keep the square edge shape from now on. It is simply superior in both appearance and function.

id rather have the notch and make the phone thicker to match the cameras and add more battery
People say this but have you really looked at how much the cameras stick out? A phone that thick would be heavy and would feel very bulky in the hand.

I don’t mind the notch but I think this will be a positive change if it frees up space for more status icons on the top of the screen. I miss having my battery percentage, a feature they took away ever since introducing the notch on iPhone X

Also, if they want to make use of the screen real estate, why do videos in safari STILL not have a way to rotate without needing to turn off the rotation lock? They can’t auto-rotate videos to the landscape orientation how people would actually want to watch them? Or add a rotation button like YouTube or literally any other video app already has for years? Feels so antiquated to watch videos in tiny little windows. It was like that ever since the original iPhone, 15 years ago. I even had a jailbreak tweak for this over a decade ago.

Nothing is centered! This is driving me nuts. The pill cutout itself is not centered as obviously the round cutout isn’t either. But then - if you combine both cutouts as one, this combined cutout isn’t centered either… it’s literally annoying the hell out of me…

Oh wow a brand new shape that I've never seen before from Apple. Totally awesome! actually revolutionary to say the least. :)
