lol people said that about the 5/5S when the 6 was released. And said that about the 4/4S when the 5 was released.

And I think they said that about the 3GS when the 4 was leaked due to the "ugly" antenna bands...

Plus they said that about the cMBP when the rMBP was released. And when the 2016 MBP was released, people then said the 2012 rMBP was the best design.

TL;DR: people hate change but they'll come around. :D

I disagree on the iPhone 4

Yes it's a semi half-assed solution. They patented behind the screen front facing camera, and sensors recently. Definitely wasn't planned on being included in this generation. Everything is possible eventually, but technology takes time. It was a super close call whether they were even going to get the touch ID tech in this phone or not.

I don't expect Apple to push the boundaries, and neither should you. An all out product from apple means more than they normally do, but there is no way they would go overboard (think profit margin). This phone, with what it includes, is already expecting to have a $150-200 premium over the others.

See my previous post, for pictures of the two potential phone designs.

I just saw those renders. I think there's better ways to do things though, although they might affect the water-tight abilities. Generally though the 'dip' design with the sensors having screen on either side is a silly design. Barring off the whole top to keep it straight seems way more logical and looks a lot better. The other method just makes them stand out. I don't even mind bezels. I'm happy to buy the same iPhone 5 chassis for the fourth time as long as the internals are upgraded. Seems like they managed to get TouchID working through a display though which is very futuristic, because they damn sure would never put it on the rear.

Lot better than plugging it in.

Is it, though? I can still use my phone plugged in, but I'm limited by it laying on a mat. Plugging it in takes literally 4 seconds... it's just not that big of a problem that it demands a solution with tradeoffs like "stops charging when you pick it up."

Once they get the area-adjacent over air charging worked out, that would be cool though.

Is it just me or is the rear part got a protruding bottom right edge? Like, a counter shim so that the protruding camera wont make the phone wobble on a flat surface anymore.

Looks more like a reflection to me. It would still wobble corner to corner the other direction

Possible major problem, thought it's unclear with these images. Samsung's S7/S8 infrared iris scanner looks like it can cause permanent eye damage with continued or incorrect use:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...-scanner-causing-eye-discomfort.html#comments

Anybody know, at this point, if that's a confirmed feature on the 8?!

Uh oh this can be huge. And it doesn't look that it's limited on samsung's implementation, rather than the whole tech behind it.

Looks beautiful! Way better than the S8

But let’s wait for Sunny1990 and the other ‘definitely not Apple trolls’ to weigh in on it.

One who lives in a glass house should not throw stones .......
[doublepost=1497327324][/doublepost]Looks good so far , though if the pricing is correct.... :( the 6S stays

I think this is legit. The return of the glass back might make some happy and annoy others.
Although the bezel-less screen is attractive, this is going to be a 1st revision of the product, and we all know that 1st revision of all Apple products aren't usually the best choice (iPhone 4 antennagate, iPhone 5 scuffgate, iPhone 6 bendgate, all are fixed in the S revision).
If the regular "7S" is iP68 (and bring 3 or more GB of RAM), I might opt for that, unless the "X" version has some ultra amazing new feature set (doubt it as it will have the same SoC as the "7S.")

just saw the s8 teardown. Those front cam, sensor, scanner, ear-piece modules are much bigger than size of the visible lens. Even if put those modules next to one another the (visible) lens spacing needs to be further apart than what the mock-up showed. So this leaves little space on the sides after the cut-out. So the likelihood of the cut-out won't happen.

If Steve jobs was alive this wouldn't get clearance that little black bar at the top is a design atrocity they should have just made the bar go all the way across
That's not as bad as the cases for the iPhone 5C, or the fugly thick white antenna bands on the 6/6S/7.
At the same time, if Steve Jobs was alive, he would take out the headphone jack (and the lightning port) even sooner than you can say bluetooth (remember the button-less iPod shuffle 3rd gen?).

well, if this is the true thing, than
1.) ugly top thing, but
2.) shows how "genius" the previous design(s) are, but
3.) hey, it is just for the first glimps, than it is just a device running iOS and thats it, it will work ;-)

Eh im just saying this as convenience point of view. Just lay the phone on the charger pad and boom...done deal.

I don't like the cutout on the top, I will not buy it, sorry Apple
Errmm, It's a model based on a concept mock-up, made by a guy (or gal) with too much time on their hands. Why are you saying "sorry Apple"? These images have sweet F A to do with Apple.

question is how do you go home on this thing?

Agree! For that, if nothing else, I suspect they will have a home button equivalent somewhere. I still suspect they will have a home button on the back AND fingerprint sensor in the front. The sensor in the screen will be used only for unlocking. For going back to home screen, and in-app touch-id applications the home button on the back can be used.

I like it. Except that hideous camera. You would think something so ugly would never make it into an Apple device, but since the iPhone 6, I have become used Apples poor design, so its most likely real.

That doesn't make any sense if you have it laid down on a flat surface. You'd have to pick it up to press the "home" button

There must be some implementation on the front, someone mentioned similar to Samsung with the virtual button appearing. Guess we'll have to wait and see unless someone sees something in the iOS11 code

If the phone is on a flat surface, then you probably need to unlock the phone, for which there would be the sensor in the screen on the front.

However, there are use-cases of needing to use touch id within an app. For e.g. authorizing payment in app store, or some other payment and banking apps which require touch id authentication before making the transaction. How would those apps distinguish a touch on the screen as an input vs. scanning for touch-id? Also, how would you go back to home screen from an app without a home button? Virtual buttons over-laid on apps are a very poor solution imo.
