except carrying weight and fan noisethis laptop despite looking nice is a pass ... when someone is okay with 8/256GB they rather choose the M1 Air ...
with 16/512GB the price is not that far from base 14" Pro, which is better in every way

Honest question, do you still feel that way about the notched iPhone? Would you rather the top of the phone have a black bar across the top and then push all that status info below it?As I stare at that completely absurd split menu bar, I think a bezel would do just fine...
don't follow the ridiculousness... It a is MacBook Air. even if this cut sin SSDs performance are true. Is more than enough for a regular-purpose machine... There is no PC laptop in the same market space as the air that can do all the thing that the air can...Looking forward to those SSD speeds. Tim stays cheaping out. Hope I’m wrong though 🙃
I agree. For the most part, I doubt your average non MR forum member would even notice any difference. Tech websites often make much ado about nothing and then the tech heads (many MR members) get fixated on that ado, even if it is meaningless, and end up making judgments that would (in most cases) have no real meaning tech spec wise in their daily use; and for what, a few ms of difference in time?don't follow the ridiculousness... I would rather have the black bar at the top. I have used XS/11/13. Great phones don't care for the notch.Honest question, do you still feel that way about the notched iPhone? Would you rather the top of the phone have a black bar across the top and then push all that status info below it?
I'm afraid this model will get hefty inflation/weak euro check very soon, or no later than it gets any small upgrade in specs. I bet it will be easily 10-20% higher after that. The base 14" MacBook Pro is 2.253,80 EUR. Might as well just go for that when you're in the EU. Better screen, more ports, better chip for only 155 EUR
I've owned my MBP 14" since it came out and I don't ever recall hearing the fan ever.except carrying weight and fan noise
The notch doesn’t bother me but if I had the option I would prefer a rectangular screen without the cutout even though it would be smaller.I would rather have the black bar at the top. I have used XS/11/13. Great phones don't care for the notch.
How do you know they can’t have a 1080p camera with a smaller bezel? Do you have the data sheet for the camera they use and data sheets for comparative devices? So you like big bezels?
That's the alternative you know, right? They can't have a 1080p camera and thin bezels without this approach. And if you actually owned a notch on your laptop, you'd see it is really a non-issue.
Do you think they put the notch in for punitive reasons? How do you know they can’t have a 1080p camera with a smaller bezel? Do you have the data sheet for the camera they use and data sheets for comparative devices?
Because if they could, they would. Do you have the data sheet to prove they can?How do you know they can’t have a 1080p camera with a smaller bezel? Do you have the data sheet for the camera they use and data sheets for comparative devices?
They COULD put normal speed nands in a PRO laptop, but yet they didn't..Because if they could, they would.
Apples to oranges argument here. They COULD put normal speed nands in a PRO laptop, but yet they didn't..
M3I’m not updating my M1 Air until single score benchmark is over 2,000 and multiscore is over 10,000 at base price.
Get the 14” proI am using a 2013 MacBook Pro 13 Inch. Would that be a good replacement for After effects and Blender work? I kind of manage it on my 2013 MacBook, but it’s it very slow and the preview is getting almost impossible…
Cinebench would be a better test for that.It would be nice to see sustained performance. Geekbench might not run long enough to see thermal throttling.
It’s the size. There’s a big difference between a 2.7lb notebook and a 3.5lb notebook.I don't know. I do not see the value of these machines. if you want a base model because you're on a budget, then the M1 MacBook Air is the machine to get. More capable and less expensive. If you want more storage, power and memory than the base 14" M1 MacBook Pro is a far better, more powerful option and a better value.
I hope consumers can see through this and let Apple know this is not acceptable.
The good news is there will soon be high end ARM chips on the Windows side that will give Apple notice not to go the Intel route and become complacent.

I’ve installed macOS through several different methods over the years.Yes way. I'm using the USB restore method while you're probably thinking of Apple Configurator 2 that requires another Mac and skips the USB creation.
Unfortunately some of the day to day with the M2 with 256gb has lag, noticeable delays and exports/rendering that take up to twice as long. With just a few apps open it appears to be a huge downgrade. The 500gb is better than the M1 though.I agree. or with ** selective perceptionproblem with *your* machine or *your* USB.
