Hope to have one in Montreal

I must say that Montreal has no real store that sells only Apple. The only way to see new products is to look on the internet. I must say that the next one in Canada must be on Ste-Catherine :)

If I make a trip to Canada some day, will certainly check the store out. Have heard that it's a beautiful city.

Vancouver is the most beautiful city in Canada with the mountains and water. Toronto is a bunch of skyscrapers and urban sprawl IMHO. Yes there's neat neighbouroods in Toronto, but patio season is only four months.

From ifoAppleStore.

The Yorkdale (Toronto) mall management has has retracted its claim of a grand opening date for the Apple store there. In a statement, the mall said, "The May 21, 2005 date was removed from the store boarding as we do not yet have a specific date for the store opening. Once we have a confirmed date for the opening, it will be posted on the Yorkdale website www.yorkdale.com."

Somebody at Apple must be pissed. :)

That reminds me that the Star Wars: Episode III opens right before.

That will be quite the weekend! Come to think of it I might not leave the mall at all :) Now I got to go scout out a place to sleep in the food court. ;)

And your bragging rights are well deserved. You were the first with photos showing the removal of the date that I've seen anywhere on the web. Notice that they don't deny May 21st as the opening date; they only state they will post the opening on their website. Apple usually doesn't give out that info up until 7-10 days before the opening, so it looks like somebody in mall management slipped up.

Just salivating at Opening Day

I'm sure that the posting was pre-posted before officially elected from Apple; not worrying though.

I did apply for a job back in early January, didn't get it but got an email a few days ago saying all positions are filled.....oddly enough, a request to re-apply for an open house job fair for mid-March in same email....hmmm??!!

But glad to see nuff people going to this grand occassion.

Toronto is a nice city, Skyscappers is downtown Toronto south of Dundas St.; and More North York - Sheppard Station area south of Mel Lastman Square. Big Parks - a few not enough. I still love the city; but its too much becoming a duplicate of New York, structure wise. Vancouver never been there, but it rains way too much, patio season (under an umbrella) is nice though. Good thing about Vancouver, very close to Cali, and incredible Mountains for Bike Riding, tobogans, skiing, etc.

Revenge of the Sith - Gotta see that but NOT opening day - felt angry about lack of character development in Anikan Skywalker, fearful that not enough time will be spent on the essence of why Darth Vader is to be recond with and Feared. And why all will regret if they don't fear him (like Star Wars on space ship general gets choked with the force - pure wicked timing & acting; choking in mid sentence!). Sorry thats for another thread.

Really minor update

Hi All, went to Yorkdale by accident last night... got to talking to my fiancée and missed our stop... So we had dinner in the mall and walked by the store front. :) I had a peek through the doors and they are working on the interior. There's still a lot of work to be done! IMHO May 21st still seems about right, speaking of dates they blacked out the part of the façade that tore away when they removed the date, but still no mention of an offical grand opening yet.

There's a couple mentions about a confirmed date of Friday, May 20th now on ifoAppleStore.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Hi everyone,

I was at Yorkdale tonight shopping and I took a few pictures but there's no much to see.

The stainless steel exterior signage is finished and is draped in black plastic. The black construction hoarding is now replaced and further out and is simply unpainted drywall screwed onto framing.

There's no way to enter from the front of the store now. All entry into the Apple Store space is from the employee-only service hallway in the middle of the mall. Thus, I cannot ascertain how far the interior is nearing completion.

So that's the update.

Right On!!! Its slowly coming along. BTW, is that the miss's? I swear whenever I mention Yorkdale Mall my girl gives me the evil eye  . That place is a pure pickup meat market, for both girls & guys.

winnipeg.

please, don't laugh. the peg has a huge arts community (so a Mac base right there) and right now only 1 exclusively mac store (MacHelper, in st. vital).

That may be, but unfortunately there a lot of larger centers which would probably receive an Apple Store first - Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Quebec...

Don't worry though, I'm even further down the list than you, and have no hope whatsoever of ever seeing an Apple Store here! ;)

Another small update

At Yorkdale last night and saw the new boarding around the store, when I was there however the 4th and 5th white panel (counting in from the right) had been removed and I had a fairly decent look inside. The place is all painted and the counter tops are up, but it's completely bare. My guess is the store is about 90% complete, with about 1 more weeks worth of work before they go and start putting stock on the shelves. I'm not putting money on it but I'm fairly certain they could make the once-posted opening of May 21st. I'm sure I'll be in the Mall at least once next week, and I'll be sure to swing by and see if a date has been posted.

Other Ontario Locations

While I suspect that a bunch of others in the GTA might not like to hear this, I think that if there are going to be other locations in Ontario opening soon, I think they will open in places like Mississauga before a second store is open in Toronto. Mississauga is pretty much the largest suburb in Canada, and not only is it located right next to Toronto, there are a significant amount of corporate head offices located in the `saug because of the lower taxes (another reason for our little burb) As well, we have Square One (the second largest mall in Canada, and the largest mall in Ontario) so we are known for the shopping. On top of that, the number of dedicated Mac resellers is low to non-existent, there is 2 stores that I know of that sell Mac stuff in Mississauga, and one of them deals predominantly with used equipment, so the need is greater too.

I think that it would be poor planning on the part of Apple to begin the AS Ontario proliferation by having a second store in the same city as their first store, especially when that city already has a number of larger, well known Mac resellers. So, my prediction, if the previous number of 4 Ontario stores in the near future turns out to be true, would probably be
1. Apple Store Yorkdale
2. Apple Store Mississauga (probably near Square One or one of the Heartland PowerCentres)
3. Apple Store Ottawa
4. Apple Store Windsor (Because it's in the other more built up part of Ontario and will balance out the other locations)

However, I don't think that they would open so many stores in Ontario before they expanded to other locations in Canada first, Probably Vancouver and/or Montréal...who knows, if the Toronto location is as successful as it seems like it will be, they might open both V&M simultaneously

NO.. the house across the street (yeah, its regina, so what?) should be the next store.
