I don't know about Toronto, but I'm not sure that Vancouver needs one. We have two MacStations, Westworld and two Simply Computing all Mac dealers. It might be cool, but I'm not sure it would improve mac sales or support.

I'm an Apple VAR and already I can't get equipment, what are my chances
if a store opens up around here?

Isn't that a guarantee that Apple will move in on your territory :(
Your chances: close to zero. Apple has shown that its view of the greater good is more important than the fate of a few resellers that have been struggling along for years.

Anyway, good to see a store in Canada, and yes, I do think Van would be a great location. They would likely put it downtown, so guess you'll have to work in Delta and Surrey ;)

and we need one in calgary! Just cuz we like to pretend we're as cool as Vancouver and Toronto.
No pretend, we are as cool :D :D :D
It isn't tough to be as cool as TO. (IMO, not trying to highjack the thread.)
Vancouver, that is a very cool place.

Canada: Apple's red-headed stepchild.

Congrats, guys! :D
iGary, if I got you correctly isn't that:
Apple's red-headed, left handed, dope smoking, gay marrying, non Iraq war supporting, hockey crazed, we're-just-happy-being-who-we-are, laid back stepchild. ;)

PS Now who would have ever thought that a skinny, short, white kid from Canada would be the NBA's MVP! :D :D :D

Vancouver seems a natural location for an Apple Store. Lot's of high-tech and creative industries there. Hopefully their merchandise return policies (with 20% restocking fees) in Canada will be better than they are here in the USA. This is why I don't buy anything in an Apple Store.

I'd like to see one in Vancouver as well. Let's hope they're next on the list!

gmark2000; thanks for the link and the photos. one of my earlier posts argueing that Yorkdale mall is nowhere close to downtown Toronto, proof is that Holiday Inn photo. If you look closely to the street level Holiday Inn sign (in the photo linked) - you gave them free advertising, lol - right underneath you'll see a grey strip which is HWY 401. :D

I'm guessing the mad frenzy of Star Wars might have something to do with the launch date delay. Its ok I'm going to that theatre to peep the movie & the stores progress. I'm just hoping I'm lucky enough, 3 days early on my birthday, to win a PowerBook. ;) :p :D   . Never been that lucky, but here's to wishing. Also Victoria day is a national holiday 3rd Monday of May. Many people will be spending mad dollars for fireworks, family, booze, or just camping.

Traditionally do you have to make a purchase in order to enjoy the free T-Shirt?
That alone is fun.

I've posted this in the "New Apple Store" thread as well but here it is again; Apple has made it official - the Yorkdale store will open on Saturday, May 21st at 9:30 am.
YES!!! I will be there! Yorkdale is only 5 mins away from my place so I'll show up right at opening. Hopefully they will be selling the "lucky bags" like so many other openings... either way I'll probably be picking up Tiger and / or iLife '05.

Maybe you'll see me there... not that you know who I am or anything.

Sorry, I can't make it to Toronto. Enjoy and post a picture of your smiling face at the opening if you can.

Well I know I quoted you but I was refering to all the people interested in visiting the store on opening day. Don't get me wrong Sayhey, you're more then welcome to come... but coming in all the from San Francisco would be a little excessive.
;)

As for pics I might bring my camera, but I might be busy showing the Mac mini and iMac to my soon-to-be-mother-in-law. ...trying to keep her away from those low end 3 year usefull life Dell's. :)

LOL, I understood it wasn't a personal request for me to show up! :p I was just putting in my own two cents - and yes a trip to Toronto would be excessive, at least on my pocketbook. Still, enjoy and post some pics if you can.

edit: just a note to say this is the sixth international store, with the upcoming Bluewater (Kent, England) and the Shibuya (Tokyo, Japan) stores there will be eight. However, public statements by Apple VP Peter Oppenheimer has put the number of international stores to reach 10 by year's end. Where are the last two stores?

Crowd control plans are in flux. The initial mall security plan was not to permit overnighting on site (inside or outside) but they are examining this now.

Check ehMac for the latest info. Raid, come visit some time and register.

Count me in, and Raid I'll see you there. Look for a guy using a Nokia 6620, . I got a Dell if your mother in law, is still looking, but I say just show her the Mini's and she's better off getting that. I dont want to put you in the position of "he got me a windbloze machine, stop dating him deary", lol. jk.

Also, I hope that sleepover crap isnt happening. That would really bum me out. I'm coming from Hamilton, all I need to do is grab an early, before dawn, Go bus to Toronto & subway up to Yorkdale.

btw, Raid is that printing store on Dufferin still there? By Orfus Rd? I'm asking because as friend of mine & his brother own that store. Might stop by there after just to say hi?!

I hope this sleep over crap ain't going to happen either, I'll be driving in at around 9am. While I'm a Mac fan and I'd love a shirt... I'll take my chances, and not stand in line for more than an hour. My mother-in-law to be won't be coming with me, but said I should take her there sometime to look over the Apple offerings. However I might be there with my brother, but he hasn't called me back yet! (I hope he reads this!)

As for what computer to recommend right now I'm torn between the higher end Mac Mini(with Super Drive upgrade) or the higher end eMac. She mainly uses her computer for email and websurfing, but got a digital camera for christmas and want's to store, edit, and share the photos she gets. With all the photos she's bound to take of the grandkids (my soon to be Nieces and Nephew!) I think she should get the superdrive, with it I'm sure the computer will be usefull to her for more than 5 years. The thing is the Mac Mini could use her existing monitor and keyboard witch would make it cheaper for them.... argh.

Guess I'm going to have to have a little chat with one of the "genius" sales people.

As for the print store, I seem to recall one just north of Orfus Rd. on the east side of Dufferin... is that the one you're talking about?

Those are nice pictures Sayhey, thank you for posting the ehmac site. That's quite a line waiting. The the community of ehmac, we need to have that kind of presence also.

Hey I was there, but I didn't have a macrumors t-shirt to wear. I was in the top 500 in line (487 was the what the guy quoted as he walked by with is counter clicker). I don't have any pics because my camera battery died, but I now have an Apple Yorkdale t-shirt, and some nice colour after lingering in that bright early morning sun!

I agree Robson Street in Vancouver is the best location, but Metrotown Centre in Burnaby, could give them a run for the money. That mall is going through renovations right now and growing, perfect place for a new Apple Store. Robson Street seems to be very crowded right now, not sure where Apple could build a nice big store. Another plus for the mall, would be the foot traffic, there's alot more than Robson Street strictly b/c it's got a roof for those rainy days! :D

I agree with Robson. Metrotown has too many gangs. Not a nice place to go!
