Oh, an according to the specs, you need to attached your iphone 5 using a lightening cable AND the lightening AV adapter - which amso needs a HDMI cable!

I thought carplay was supposed to be lightening cable only? Do you need a lightening adapter to use your iphone 5 in the Ferrari which is the first OEM install?

£349 according to Halfords who accidentally leaked the DA120 on their website last week and then took it down when I queried it - I posted a screen shot on twitter - pic.twitter.com/J2LcqqX8LY

If you join the BMW owners club, or one of the other related car owners club, you can get a 15% Halfords discount card - it costs about £16 a year to join one of the owners clubs, but you'd save £52 on one of these head units - I joined a couple of weeks ago just to get a discount on a new Pioneer Appradio HU - glad I held off purchasing. :)

That is a decent price, especially with a potential discount. I wonder when it will be released.

I'm interested in something like this, but I need single-DIN version.

----------

If your car can take a Double DIN headunit, this will work.

The UK didn't get the same models as the US, I have to wait for the SPH-DA120 to be released, and see how expensive it will be.

I'm not getting a car new enough to have it built in for a while so it makes sense.

It's a shame SPH-DA120 is also a double-DIN unit. I hope there will be some decent CarPlay compatible single-DIN option soon (and why not - there are slide-out touchscreen versions already).

Can't wait to put one in my 31 Ford Coupe Hot Rod! The custom car world and aftermarket stereo shops have been waiting!

Exactly.

Someone should make one that is simply an external monitor for your phone (for someone who doesn't need AM/FM radio, disc playback, etc)

I was watching some new car reviews on Youtube the other day... and there are cars that don't even have a CD player. Just a USB port and an AUX jack. Your phone is the brain.

Boy have times changed!

I recently installed Alpine unit that has bluetooth and USB. No CD, DVD or any moving unit. Its been blessing to use. I can pair it to my iPhone and get all hands free use. Of course, for maps, navi and email you have to buy 2 DIN (touchscreen) CarPlay unit, but thats for my next car :)

Nav. Replacement?

Can I replace the factory Navigation System in my 2009 Santa Fe with one of these Pioneer units? The 2009 Hyundai nav systems were the last ones that did NOT have bluetooth capability, and that's what I need/want without having to buy a new SUV.

You can easily find these for much much much less than retail prices. I just wish I hadn't had one installed last year cause the navigation part of it stinks

Unless I can install Waze on it, I think I'll pass.

You can I use Waze on mine all the time. You can actually use any app on your phone on it :D

Ridiculously overpriced just because it's using Apple software.

That's a pretty ignorant statement to make. Those receivers were already at those prices before CarPlay. They just enabled CarPlay with a FREE firmware update so it has nothing to do with Apple software.

Am I the only one who finds it a bit interesting that the CarPlay home button still looks like the pre-Touch ID home button?

Good news - due to iOS 8 and its bluetooth connectivity issues, it's just a pretty dashboard accessory with little function ;)

I want. I hate having to hold my phone to see the map.

I switched from the tiny iPhone 4s to Galaxy S4 Active so I could better use it for navigation (larger screen). With the larger iPhones just get yourself a decent mount and forget about this crappy radio software. All you need the radio to do is Bluetooth.

Is it just me or has Apple seemingly forgotten about CarPlay??? It really seems that way. Very little mention of it since it was announced and no new app support has been announced....

I have the AVH - P8400BH...

I wish they'd bring that tech to that head unit.

I kind of got screwed by updating my DEH-P710BT to the 8400BH. Why? Because I lost voice dialing. That feature was huge on the P710BT. How do they include bluetooth without voice dialing? Instead, when I want to make a call I have to fumble through the menu. Not safe at all. Why would they take a step back? I just assumed it was included. So dumb.

I think with ios 8's new Hey Siri hands-free feature and larger iphone screens CarPlay may no longer be needed.
