Minor issue. I'll take this over the manufacturers infotainment system 7 days a week.

+1000... I have a 2012 GS and can't stand the GM infotainment system... It's the only thing I don't like about the car. Just hoping for a good replacement unit with Carplay support that looks stock. :)

Too bad that a large majority of Apple users would never buy anything built by GM. The only thing GM has ever been good at is building garbage and then asking for a bailout when it was mismanaged right down the drain.

Apple user here ... had 4 Vettes (even did an NCM delivery up in Bowling Green :) )

:::::: drool :::::: But still can't get to trade mine in ...

I still love the C6 Z06. Fantastic NA power, a glorious hand built 427 (that's an intake/tune/headers/cam way from 650HP), heck, you can even score a low mileage one for mid-$40K-ish. I'd still choose one for a weekend track car over a new C7 Z.

The Corvette is nothing more than a glorified Camaro.

As Sammy Hagar once sang, "I E-A-T Z28!"

:D

lol.. matter of opinion.. Lexus is a glorified Toyota... Acura is a glorified Honda... etc etc..

Oh, I absolutely obliterated a Nissan GT-R last week.. in a glorified camaro GM [ Z06 ] all the way to 180 mph :D

I'm waiting for the 2017 ZR1 mid engine.

Who needs Car Play, the engine and exhaust provide a symphony.

Minor? A Lightning cable is about 3ft. long. Wireless capability would make this technology be awesome....but having to connect a cable to your dash is so lame in 2015.

"As we learned at Chevy's media event, the first CarPlay vehicles from the company will not include an upcoming iOS 9 feature -- wireless CarPlay support. Chevy's 2016 vehicles will require a user's iPhone to be connected via a Lightning cable. iOS 9 also includes new features that allow it to be more deeply integrated with in-car systems, letting car knobs control CarPlay functions, but it is not clear if Chevy's vehicles will take advantage of this upgrade when Apple's new operating system launches in the fall."

The Corvette Stingray has a motorized drop down hidden compartment with a USB port. I'll place my phone in there, connected to the shortest cable available (not 3 ft, more like 4-5 inches) and it will be out of sight but FULLY functional. As I said, non-issue.

All the Chevy's mentioned already have bluetooth installed and have Wifi optional. Why wouldn't it be possible to connect through wifi; I'll bet it will happen with a software update.

Also, lightning cables are not limited to 3', I have a 10' cable on my desk right now charging my phone.

Yea..that's what people who can't afford to buy one usually say ;)

Touché... ;)

I have no clue what's the cost of one, nor am I inclined to look it up. Maybe I could afford a base model if if I rearranged my life priorities.

And I do admit that my judgement of Corvette (and Camaros for that matter) is based on growing up in the 70s and 80s. I didn't get the refresher course. :D

Exactly. Apple will roll out Wireless CarPlay with iOS 9 and I am SURE CarPlay enabled vehicles will be updated to support it. It's all software at this point.

Yes, and too bad it requires a cable to do the CarPlay™ -- no wireless CarPlay™ for now, kinda sucks, right?

From what I understand, the systems they are installing in these right now cannot do wireless at all, and the phone will have the capability before the wireless CarPlay™ starts showing up in cars.

yeah needs a wifi card in the deck. my pioneer doesnt have that but still is a damn cool feature to have.

a few twists here and there, but yeah nothing huge.. mostly straight with zero traffic..

I know what the GT-R is capable of in the bends :D

First of all, it's CarPlay not Car Play and second CarPlay is not about playing music. Although, you can use CarPlay to play music.

I have a wired CarPlay system (Pioneer) and it takes literally seconds to connect the cable, then my phone sits neatly in the little centre console of my car out of the way.

Crucially it charges my phone, which is especially useful if I'm using the map function since having the GPS running for long periods on battery tends to run it down awfully quickly.

The cable for my HU is routed from the back into the centre behind the dash and then up through the bottom near the gear shift into the small tray there. It's totally inconspicuous and looks very neat. Grabbing my phone when I get out or connecting it up when I get in are very easy to do. It doesn't look lame at all, and it ensures I'm charging while on the move.

I also get a bonus to navigation since the head unit has an external GPS antenna which the phone is able to make use of while physically connected for highly accurate and quick GPS acquisition, which is especially good in very built up areas.
