Correct.

Here's the expected nomenclature:

October 2012: iPhone 4G

October 2013: iPhone 4GS

October 2014: iPhone 8

OR

October 2012: iPhone 5

October 2013: iPhone 5S

October 2014: iPhone 6

October 2015: iPhone 6S

October 2016: iPhone 7

October 2017: iPhone 7S

etc.

iPhone V

Yeah I also want Siri to just have a "listen" mode, I can't put it up to my ear while driving because then the cops here will think that I'm talking on my cell while driving and give me a ticket.

The proximity sensor can't tell your ear from your elbow.

I'm sure the jailbreak community will find a way to install Siri on iPads/iPhone 4 devices. Specially since the 4S seems to have the same 512 MB RAM.

This assumes the Siri code doesn't require a dual-core CPU or other hardware which the i4 doesn't have.

Almost 90K in Browsermark?

Impressive, very impressive. Even the fastest high-end Android phones (e.g. Galaxy S II) only score ~60K in Browsermark, and most high-end Android phones (Tegra 2, TI OMAP) only score ~50K in Browsermark.

Can I give Siri commands in French but have it still transcribe American English?

They really need to get on this.

My Benchmarks:

iPad 2 running 5GM

92,724 in BrowserMark.

1819ms in Sunspider

That means the iPhone 4S is running only very slightly slower. Thats pretty incredible.

Raise to speak is cool, but I would l would prefer to be able to name my assistant and then summon it by name to wake up.

god I would hate it if they called it "iPhone 4G"

I heard someone ask about the "iPhone 4GS" at the Apple Store. The Genius looked pretty annoyed before correcting her, "It's actually the iPhone 4S. Continue..."

Why ear? Wouldn't mouth be more natural when you wanna speak?

Anyone?

Well it's just using the screen off sensor so presumably it activates siri when it's covered... so you could poss just cover the sensor with your hand? Or maybe it only works if the sensor phone is upright+Sensor covered?

For me it's like the rotation lock switch on the ipad - which they changed to be mute. Which was pointless as you can long hold (1-2 seconds) the volume down to mute. After people complained they changed it so you can choose what the switch does.

Why they don't have a more more advanced gesture control I don't know?

Shake to have seri listen? A lot more sense than shake to shuffle! Hated having songs change as you are walking down the stairs!

----------

The next iPhone won't be called iPhone 5.

OOoooh really... Do tell... how do you know...

[Rolls eyes]

----------

Just looked at the video again.

It's not clear about the raise to listen... may just mean that lifting it up vertically activates it - using the motion sensor.

I kind of hope that in future updates to the Siri Software that they allow new voices to be used, just like in a Tom Tom or other GPS device. I really want Jeremy Clarkson as my personal assistant. I know the current voice is computer generated so its probably a quite a few years off, but I think it would be nice....

Who would you like as your personal assistant?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

Wish they knew what the RAM officially is.

It's been known since last week. It's 512 MB.

I think the truely amazing thing is how the iPhone 4 with its single core A4 had a benchmark of 28K with iOS 4 and jumped to 51K with iOS 5. With iOS 5, the iPhone 4 benchmark is right up there with the high-end dual core Android phones. Goes to show that hardware specs don't mean much if the software is not optimized properly.

guys did i get something wrong?
why is there written "music" instead of "iPod"? I thought "music" is only on iPod touches?

I just ran Browsermark on SGSII with stock browser and got 53088 score. It would appear (and is quite obvious) that the score will depend a great degree on software (in this case - the browser). Safari/iOS 5 does pretty well in this regard just not as well as Firefox 5. Just another limitation of iOS (i.e. no Firefox)

Firefox Home has been available on iOS for about a year now. The benchmark was made using iOS 5 so the benchmark, in part has something to do with the optimizations made to the OS. Also, you are confusing OS X with iOS. Firefox 5/6/7 runs on OS X.

It is clear how he got it...

"It's not clear how this person obtained their iPhone 4S."

If you notice, the carrier is China-Unicom. The iPhone is made in China. Now that the iPhone 4s is public, I am sure people are being more free with them. And giving that they are shipping today from China to make it to the States for Friday, it is very evident....

That's an iOS 5 change. They split the iPod app into Music and Videos to be more consistent with the iPod touch.

Oh, and it needs to have different accents. If Garmin can have lots of different accents, Apple can do it better. I also think they should have a Steve voice as a tribute.

That would make Steve live forever in a way.

But even now whenever I use my iPod and enjoy its ease of use and the way it feels in your hand I have to think of Steve and how he has personally approved all the little details and how he had the very same model in his own hands. And for a second or two I get sad again. :(

Can we call it 'Mother', ah but then it will make google maps direct you to LV426, and that is NOT a good holiday to have....
