I came in very skeptical that there would be a dramatic difference. Man, was I wrong. Just asthetically, the rounded face coupled with the smaller crown just makes the screen pop. Something you can't really appreciate until it's on your wrist.

Yes, my primary overall takeaway with this watch is that it looks much more like a traditional round timepiece. The rounded corners and almost edge-to-edge screen which follows the case contours definitely give it a more circular appearance, helped along by Apple's fixation on circular graphics and watch faces with sweeping hands. And that in part accounts for the screen pop in my observation. Blocks of text seem to still be constrained within a central text box, especially scrollable text (in part due to the rounded corners), so I wouldn't expect that to look much different. But the circular watch faces start to make it look like a real watch now.

I pre-ordered the Series 4 only because of the Apple Giveback on the Series 3 was compelling enough to cover an upgrade. I typically Swappa the previous gen but going rates on the 3 were only about $15-20 more after fees/etc versus the trade in, so I was like, why not.

I was very concerned the 2mm difference going from the 38 to 40 would be noticeable. But it's not--at all. Band still has the exact same fit.

And the all ceramic backing—something else to appreciate. It just feels so much better (softer, smoother?) against my wrist. When hot/sweating I feel the watch against my skin, and typically have to take off and wipe down briefly to not chafe. I don't see this as an issue anymore...

And the speed that it boots up now, I was genuinely surprised. It was ready before I could finish unpairing my current watch lol.

I have a series 2 silver aluminum and a series 0 stainless steel. I'm going to trade in or sell both to get the series 4 SS. This is it. If you've been waiting, now is the time to take the plunge.

PS: the little sleeve the watch comes in is so cute! Lol

What's the Apple Giveback? You can turn in Series 3??? What's the process for this?

Anyone with a 44mm Series 4 try using a band from a previous 42mm model? Care to post a pic?

Here is a picture of my 44mm using a 42mm Milanese loop. Fits perfectly

Details are in the app or on the Apple site when you're checking out an item. It's a little buried. Prices on the phone are not that good, but on a series 3 aluminum pretty compelling in my book.

Having the Series 4 on for a few hours more, I am just enjoying it more and more. I was one of those crazy 3am (EST) people who pre-ordered the very first Apple Watch and one of the first few to get them ahead of others I knew. This is the first release since then that I've felt this excited by a release. This is practically the iPhone X of the Watch, and we didn't have to wait 10 years!

Do you just cut and paste this each year a new one comes out? Because this hardly seems like a fresh impression or that you are a new owner.

Hey that's a fantastic idea, it'll save me the trouble needless typing. Thanks! It's still tacky, ugly and bound to be thrown in the trash once the next one comes out. Really is the literal definition of a disposable product.

This is my old 42mm S2 on the left and new 44mm on the Right. There's really not that much difference in them size wise.

When you say it is a minor update - It has gone from being a 32 bit processor to 64 bit. That's a massive change before even starting on the rest.

I don't think your photo image is going to come through in my reply, but I think the most useful image would be a side-by-side of a fully lit-up screen, so that a person can see the outer edges of the display active area.

But hey, I'm not going out in the rain to prove it ! :)

Oh. I've got a puny 160 mm wrist, and I've ordered the 44 mm... I haven't worn a watch for years, so I'm not even used to wear anything on my wrist. I'm a bit nervous now - hope it's not overwhelmingly huge, I'm not that eager to cancel my October 5 delivery of the Nike+.
I got my SG black sport loop AL 44 mm AW4 today

Again I have a small wrist for a man. Not sure if this is too big or not.

I am going to have to go look at the 40 mm but the screen is a real nice size on the 44mm Not sure if I care if it’s too big or not.

I am still debating whether I should go to SBSS model. The AL model is so light but my OCD for scratches has me worried

It’s exactly 2mm bigger. No one tried to pull a fast one on ya. BUT it really is a nice size upgrade. There is so much more info u can fit on the screen. It’s also not as thick, the speakers are much better, and the overall asthetic is cleaner and nicer. Can’t belive u say “it’s not much different”. Because it really is. Ur just not appreciating it.

I bought the 44. Female...I wear the smaller band. Had the 40 before. Am very happy with the 44. Lots of ladies wear much more oversized watches.

Buy the watch, put it and your phone on silent. Make it so only text messages and phone calls alert you through vibrations.

I can't remember the last time my phone was off mute. I used to toggle it depending where I was, but since I've had an Apple Watch 0,3 and now 4, I've just left it off.

Maybe I am stupid. I am new to the watch. What’s the best way to do this... through Apple Watch app?

Picked mine up earlier, got the 44mm SG Aluminium from EE. Absolutely loving it so far, I did have an Apple Watch S0 originally, last year I switched to Android and replaced that with the Huawei Watch 2 Classic but have fully switched back to Apple now. Compared to both my old Apple Watch and the Huawei this thing is light years ahead display and performance wise and I'm not going to miss the Android watch at all, the Series 4 looks so much more advanced and sleek in comparison.

44mm (left) vs 42mm (right)
I'd be interested to know what the diameter of the watch dial is now on 44mm one? On my 42mm it's cca. 24mm, which I always found too tiny on my wrist, but from your pic the watch dial seems noticeably bigger, which I like. Any chance you could measure the diameter?

Approx. 28mm

Wow. That is actually a really noticeable redesign. The corners are far rounder. It’s way less boxy. Thanks for the pics

How round they’ve gone is really interesting to me. The overall impression on a wrist is much more like a round watch than a square one.

What I find really interesting is that the screen shots from the watch also have the rounded corners. This is in stark contrast to the iPhone X which takes rectangular screenshots revealing squared corners which are otherwise concealed by the rounded corners of the physical display. This suggests that Apple intends to never allow an image in that space, which would certainly be consistent should they ever develop the Apple Watch in a round design.

I don't know if these help? Series 2 42mm with the red leather strap on the left, Series 4 44mm with the Hermès strap on the right. It was a bit hard to get them lined up to get an good comparison

The series four is on the right (with the band)... the three on the left. sorry, moved the band so its not quite wearing them both but I think you can see the point.. .sitting on your wrist its not going to look that much bigger (44 vs 42 mm? can't even notice it side by side easily) ...but the screen size when viewing IS bigger because of the smaller bezels on the series 4.

Oddly, it DOES feel a bit different to me, lighter.. and closer to the skin. I imagine I will get used to that soon.

Thank and darn you all. It looks great. Sigh, I guess I will drop my head and go to the store... just to look at it. I don't have to upgrade. Fiddlesticks.
