What? You're going down from a paltry 4.7" 750p screen to a 640p 4" screen - THE EXACT SAME DISPLAY AS THE 5S in 2013. didn't you catch the Apple presentation intro? It's all about RECYCLING AND REUSING! They did this on purpose to prepare you in case you dare use your brain to think hard about what Apple is really doing.
It's a huge upgrade from the 5S. You're viewing this from the wrong direction. This was never meant to be an upgrade from the 6S line. It's a hybrid of the 5S and 6S ... a phone with modern hardware in an older form factor that people do actually want because they prefer the size. Apple actually listened (well, mostly) and stuffed some 6S hardware into the phone, instead of the 5C which was just ... well I don't know what that was. This is a true upgrade to the 5S.

SOC package HELL YES. Display, HELL NO! I'm surprised there isn't an 8GB model. Sheesh, why not cheapen it even more?

I should be more specific of what I really wanted to see: iPhone 5S body style but with a 4.7" screen. Get rid of those damn top and bottom chunks. Design wise iPhone 5 series is BEST.

It contains mostly 6S hardware, including the camera ... for $399. What more were you expecting? Everyone knew exactly what this was going to be ... and were actually a little bit surprised they included the 6S hardware and camera for this price. It's actually a very good deal considering the price of the other two phones ... especially since the other two phones have 16 GB base models for several hundred dollars more. Is it missing a few components? Yes. But this is a bargain phone and they surprisingly stuffed it with current hardware from their current flagship phones. Some of you are expecting a bit much, especially considering that everyone already knew what this phone was supposed to be. Just because reality didn't meet your unrealistic expectations doesn't mean there's something wrong with this release.

The display, among other things, is probably one of the contributing factors for the immense battery life they are proclaiming.

Not really sure on the reason why there even is an iPhone SE...kind of a waste really. Why would you buy a 'brand new' phone that's as small as a 2-3 year old phone, and as powerful as last year's model?

The day the magic died
what are you smoking ?

To sum it up, two very clever good products.
I'm a little bit pissed off by the Apple 's price policy outside US as usual...

I don't know why anyone needs an in-depth review of iphone4s iphone "SE." Apple is trying to low-ball consumers now, eh? I'm sure some people find this appealing....but there are people out there....that....may become....

You are keep downplaying the product on every post, even when the general consensus is positive about it.
You don't like it. Gotcka. Move on.

iPhone SE isn't an iPhone 4S. It use an A9, a SoC that still is the best on the market.

Appl
"The good news: The iPhone SE gives you everything great about the iPhone 6s for $250 cheaper."

Does this confirm it has 2gb ram? That's one of the major features of the 6s.
the A9 currently doesn't exist in a 1 Gb packaging, so they would have to make a specific package for that.
I highly doubt they are differentiating the SoC, so my bet is on a 2 Gb A9.

Yeah but I'm not sure why it still has a SIM slot. Is the Apple SIM only supported by certain carriers?

Yeah except while some rumours had it sporting a 6-like (rounded edges) design, this came in looking like yesterday's phone, even though it has today's internals. They really should've given it a 6/6s design.

I can imagine a lot of people seeing the SE for the first time and saying "that doesn't look new", "it looks exactly like my 5s", "people won't know I have a new iPhone", etc. A true 6s mini would've been better. Hopefully next year the family will look alike, only with different size displays. Given the rumors that we've received that the iPhone 7/ME will look similar to the 6/6s, maybe a significant redesign is planned for next year, with perhaps three different screen sizes in an identical looking body. I think a lot of people here would prefer that. It's beginning to look more likely that both the SE and the iPhone coming in September will be stopgaps until next year's iPhone lineup. The SE has proven that with the identical design to the 5s, going against what should be cohesive design language among all of Apple's iPhone models.

They had done the same pretty much every year, so what makes this year soo special that they had to use "pro" name???
It's just a marketing name. Deal with it.
Surely it has nothing worse than the previous iPad

What a ridiculous phone. 16GB of storage is just disgusting now. Truly. A 16GB device with a 4k camera...? Good luck, you'll use up all of your storage in just a few minutes.

Seriously, maybe 4 years ago I could have understood it. But now....when the cost to bump it up to 32GB would have been LITERALLY pennies...truly unbelievable.
They are selling a 64 Gb version...

Apple 's flagship still comes with a 16 Gb base model, so it was hardly unexpected.
I think the iPhone 7 could be the first generation to follow iPad example (32-128-256 Gb models).

Several press people at the event said they didn't spot Jony Ive there...but it looks like he's standing next to Jeff Williams in this photo. Unless that's some other exec with a shaved head?

He looked pissed. LOL.

That was never their plan, so they didn't blow anything.
You miss the point - it should have been their plan. The 5 series are based on a 3+ year old form factor and it would have been refreshing to see something different from a company that prides itself on innovation. Instead we get bumps in features that are in no way new to simply reduce costs - a smaller iPhone does not have to result in less features. Apple had an opportunity to dive head first into 4" iPhone update with at least the same if not more features than the 6s to wow us. Instead they shuffled some things around, added some letters to the 5, and tossed in a Pro to the iPad.

The deal breaker for me is the ram. I've seen on gsmarena and bgr that it has 1gb ram. But supposedly the iPhone needs 2gb ram for 4k camera capability.

I don't know about BGR, but I don't trust GSMArena. They delete my comments that (politely) points out their blatant mistakes in reporting. I never go there anymore.

I hope you're right.
