i;d be down for a ssd hdd combo... so ur saying with the adaptor above i can do just that? sick.

SERIOUSLY!!! Who needs an SD slot? I need an express slot! If you do need an SD connection, you can get one throught the express lot, but not the other way around.

True:

But you have to know that it exists, you have to spend more $$$ on it, etc...

It's different from putting it (SD reader) as a default feature out of the box.

Don't get me wrong, I too prefer an express card slot, I'm trying to see things from the point of view of apple and most common users.

People use cameras with SD cards...hence the SD slot....

In '97, when the iMac was announced with no floppy drive... Steve Jobs was asked what do you do when you need to move a file from one machine to another... and his response was "email it".

Now in 2010... the internet is plenty fast for delivering software and movies.... and getting faster every day.

...try send me a 40GB file with equivalent quality to blu-ray in the United States with Broadband. We'll see how well that goes. Even if it does, it would take too long. Until broadband gets to be 500MB-2GB/s I don't see this as feazible. Sure it works for mp3's and other smaller files, but for video, it has to be awfully compressed for it to work. And with optimum online, they're service is so unreliable, that it is very likely not to have internet for days. I can't wait until Verizon Fios comes...

Yes...there's an official thread about the so-called "2nd hdd caddies"....here it is:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/680228/

With one of those caddies you can make ssd+hdd combos on iMacs and macbooks...

well considering my MBP will be a high school grad gift, if it doesnt cost more then it is an option (this is assuming apple would make this an online option from their website). however, if i have to DIY, i doubt i would ever get close. it would probably more of a NGH (not gonna happen). my parents would flip if they knew i pulled some crap like that (voiding the warranty...) i probably wouldnt want to void the warranty. we'll see. all in good time. hopefully its an option.

blu-ray please on the 15" along with 1080 resolution. then i'm sold. i think the core 2 duo is adequate for me so that's not a factor. it'd be nice to watch blu rays on here tho.

I assume you need the machine now. You should not cancel your order. You just ordered yourself a wonderful and superfast laptop.

Yes a faster revision will be out, probably in Q1 2010, after that an even faster revision in Q3 2010, after that an even faster revision in Q1 2011 etc. etc. You should buy a Mac exactly when you need it. Except when theres a huge, gamechanging update ahead (such as when Apple went from PPC to Intel). This isn't such a time.

Right now is a great time to buy a Mac. Sounds like you got yourself a great deal. Enjoy it. Relax.

Okay, I NEED YOURS OR ANYONE'S HELP!!!! I'm in the same boat but slightly different situation.

I ordered a base macbook pro 15in 2.53GHz, 250gb hard drive, etc... on black friday from Amazon.com for $1549.95. I'm set to receive my laptop this friday and wonder if I should just refuse shipment. The general consensus from all of the people on here and my bro seems to be that there is a revision coming in January (with better processor, etc...).

I'm practically FREAKED OUT right now, cuz thats what happened last time with an apple product, I bought an ipod and then they updated it a month later! I was screwed. I am totally with you on the itll keep changing part. But if its a new processor... isn't that major/gamechanging?!

I'm not completely pressed to get a new laptop cuz mine isn't dying just yet. Honestly, I'm a broke mofo and thought I was getting a good deal since I've never seen it better than the student price. I was gonna give my current one to my little sister/dad who needs a computer.

Now majority of you are mac experts and know their schedule like the back of your hand... Should I just refuse shipment and wait it out? Or am I getting a good deal here and that the new mac isn't gonna be that much of a difference? Although I've never personally seen it, I've been told that apple lowers the price on their current laptops when a new one comes out. Whats the likelihood of that happening? HELP!!!:(

is it possible to make an appeal to apple?
is there a way for the macrumors community to get involved with apple? do you understand what I am saying?
All I am asking, is there any way that we the people can get into contact with apple to tell them WHAT WE WANT?! haha, that sounded intense not

Hey guys,

Just how much performance boost can one expect going from C2D to Arrendale? I was hoping to get my MBP mid december, but that would just cut me off from the 14 day return period. On the other hand, even if I ordered one the day they were released, I would most likely have 1 or 2 days to get all my files and software from the imac over to the mbp.

Basically, I'm wondering if it really is worth the difference in my tight situation? I do some fairly processor pushing video editing in AE and FCP, heavy photoshop, as well as some gaming. Would the difference be huge, or just 10 seconds off every now and then?

Thanks,
- Jaiden

IMO the high end 15" will get the same processors as the 17", it's the case at the moment... Don't understand from where the 'technicians' on this forum get these ideas. Wait till January and then tell me I'm wrong.

however, if i have to DIY, i doubt i would ever get close.

So it will definetely NGH.....

1) I think they already read forums

2) it's a good thing that most of user requests are ignored, otherwise apple products would look like this:

1) not gonna happen

2) nobody geek/rich/tech-y enough to like BRs over DVDs would want to """""""enjoy"""""" them on a laptop screen and without a proper audio system (well nobody but you, and a couple of "want it all"-people who just want it all, no matter what is useful and what is not)

3) not gonna happen, would have already happened on the new iMacs, it's not like in January there will be some new crazy blu-ray drive technology not available in October for the iMacs

4) not gonna happen

5) not gonna happen

ps: if you're not a afraid of voiding the warranty, you can always stuff one of these guys inside your Macbook Pro:

i like those kind of contraptions, cept when i dont. which tends to be most of the time in those cases.

i know what you mean. we would all love to have lots of options, and knowing apple, making it simple is how it will be done. but you never know

ExpressCard and FireWire: The two things that will instantly confuse the average consumer. I say this after spending maybe 1/4th of my time at work explaining them to customers.

actually, i thought of using an external blu ray drive but osx doesn't support any type of blu ray player so i would have to use it on the windows partition. and the resolution is still not 1080 for the 15".

Cheap Aussie Macbook Pro???

Its Christmas !!!? Where Can I Get A Macbook Pro Online Shipped To Sydney(australia) Anyone Kno A Good Site That Offers Cheaper Than Rrp And Maybe Even Freebies Like The Hp Printer And Fusion On Macconnections.com??????????? Help!!!

Exactly! Confusing, not aware of, not used, etc...no suprise that Apple isn't afraid of ditching them....unfortunately (?) most people aren't geek, so products are made with non-geek people in mind.....so, as strange as it may sound, the SD slot will make more people happy than the express card slot...

Great timing:D
I am about to upgrade my 3 years old MBP anyway. I really hope they going back to aluminum enclosure all over laptop and the same color of keyboard.

I couldnt agree more. I am more of a fan of that generation keyboard for the laptop.

the newer MB and MBP line would be
.....

15" MBP - 2.40 Ghz 3M L2 Cache - i5 520M - $225
15" MBP - 2.53 Ghz 3M L2 Cache - i5 540M - $257

15" MBP - 2.66 Ghz 4M L2 Cache - i5 620M Dual Core - $332 OR 1.60 Ghz 6M L2 Cache - i7 720QM - $364 - Quad Core

......

out of the above listed possibilities. Which setup do you think that will delivery the most? I am going to need a machine that can easily run Winblows XP (maybe 7) and MAC OS using Parallels while bouncing around in CS4 and Final Cut running in MAC OS.....

Just want to make sure i get the right processor to handle my heavy work load.

Appreciate your comments folks. I couldn't tell you a thing about those chips other than I want the one that delivers the most

Currently running a 2.16 GHZ 15 inc MBP single core duo..2gigs of memory.. wow... we are crawling slow and my monitor is going to kick soon. Please January, Mac update your product :)

Thanks everyone in advance for feedback.

Yes

You are forgetting one more thing.... That TDP includes the CPU running at full power with max turboboost (and the rumours seems to be approx +20% these chips on turbo)

Also, lets not forget, on the desktop at least, all tests show that the core i7 idles with less power use than any core2duo chip.

If they do the same here, it will mean a lot as well.

Since that value includes the GMCH, it's not far from the 25 W TDP of the regular MBP CPUs.

I'd like to see that too.

Blah. Anyone else tired of continually missing the 3 GHz mark? Every new core change lowers frequency =/ We're at 32 nm now (...started at 90 nm on Pentium M) and STILL are hovering around 2.66 max =\
