Is that an 8?

I am not 100% convinced that it is an 8. It is not the "8" that appears in the current iOS font (last year's 7 was in that font). The spaces in the "8" are not circles. To me it looks more like a racetrack. Also, the banner looks upside down to me. If that were true, the fat part of the "8" would be on top, which would be odd. Maybe (likely?) I am reaching, and I have no good theory on what it could be, but I thought I would throw that out there.

Hey guys, is it just me, or does the banner look like clouds raining. It's easier to see if you look just up and to the right of the 8.

Mate, it's an 8. :p

It's just back in Myriad Pro - they always used Myriad Pro for all the marketing material, and only ever used Helvetica Neue for the number 7 to symbolise change. It's just them returning to normal :)

I believe the view is actually from underwater, just below the surface. So those would be light rays filtering through the water from above the surface. That's how it looks to me, anyway...

Maybe it's coming to the surface and iOS is going to be more like OSX! (And they will both frolic in the waves like dolphins...and some unicorns.)

so Yosemite?

At least the iOS banner doesn't have that horrible background the iOS 7 banner had. These next two weeks will be something. (WWDC & E3)

Been a longtime lurker and I usually stay that way because somebody usually posts something that resembles what I'm thinking but not this thread so far.

Anyhoo, my thoughts on the banner

The image reminds me of the Bruce Lee quote " ... be formless, shapeless - like water". Water can take the shape of anything it is in. iOS 8 will run fluidly on any iDevice size or screen resolution with minimal effort by devs.

Also from the same quote, "Now water can flow or it can crash." Hopefully "crash" doesn't mean bugs but denotes power like waves crashing. Meaning iOS 8 can be as powerful as it needs to be to accomplish intensive tasks.

Edit: Looks like Locoboof beat me by a post or two

I posted the Bruce lee thing right above you :)

Normally I'm all for supporting old hardware (check my signature...) but honestly, iPhone 4? Unless you simply can't afford it (in which case I'm wondering how you afford a phone plan), it's time to upgrade... having used my mother's iPhone 4 running iOS 7 (compared to my iPhone 5 running 6.1.2), the thing is unbearably slow and unresponsive. Actually, it's just slow and unresponsive period.

I was happy with my flip phone from 2006-2012, but honestly anything before the iPhone 4S is just too slow to be bothered with =/

I agree. That's why I'm upgrading from my 4 this year. I think it's time, and my contract is up so I can upgrade.
