that was actually just two circles put together, i tested myriad pro after, seems to be right.

Yeah I thought it looked a little off :)

It's definitely not Helvetica Ultra Light, the 8 is pretty ugly in that typeface so I can see why they didn't use it.

Maybe iOS 8 having a underwater image and OS X having a mountain they are showing they will not make the two one. Underwater is low and a mountain is high, a big gap between them.

It does seem to be some sort of modified extra thin myriad pro.

It looks like it's a custom Apple font called MyriadSetPro-Ultralight. I think it may be possible to extract this font from Apple's 30 years of Mac page (edit: find the octet-stream url in the css, download and rename with .ttf or .otf), but Kozuka Gothic Pro - EL is pretty close if all that is too much hassle, and I think Kozuka comes with Creative Cloud, if you have it.

Underwater photo for iOS 8 -> mostly under the hood improvements ;)

The iOS 7 banner from last year was a fairly accurate preview of the new design (bright neon colors, lots of white space and ultra thin fonts.

If the iOS 8 banner is indeed an indication of how it will look I can expect: less white/darker theme, more professional/refined look and a thicker typeface.

It's also reminiscent of the iOS 6 banner from WWDC 2012.

The iOS 8 on a "watery" background? Could mean only one thing. LiquidMetal. LiquidMetal. LiquidMetal.

Say it 3 times and Biggie Smalls will appear and bust a cap in yo a$$!

Seriously tho...I think its Apple's sly hint of future iOS mobile devices using LiquidMetal.

Good thing I bought more LQMT stock today. Heh heh heh.

Think it would be misleading for it to suggest waterproof ability. Fair enough the next iPhone maybe water proof but I doubt the iPad, and iPod touch would also be updated to waterproof designs as well at the same time.

Alright. Finally had time to weigh in. The 8 looks like and infinity symbol which may indicate time ... Timeless, like a watch. The water may indicate waterproof or resistance ... Which may indicate a seemless bond between glass and casing ... Liquid Metal (LQMT). Or, it is just a graphic to welcome people.

Why would a banner for iOS 8 (software) hint at something hardware-related?
