We’re all being a little presumptuous here. There is no iOS on that banner. I’m betting that they’re re-releasing OS 8. Look to the past to predict the future!

Maybe not, but what do they have against 11? We've been through 7 major iOS builds to date going on the 8th. Point is hopefully its spectacular.

My thought is that they are going to let iOS catch up to OSX and "merge" the two. They will still be separate in the sense that there will be a build for iOS and another build for Mac but they will follow the same release cycle. I say this because they have started to remove the "iOS" and "OSX" from a bunch of their marketing materials.

Correct. But for OS naming conventions it is not.
Same deal as 10.4.1 and 10.4.10. Both are not the same OS naming wise.
