you know, it took me 1/2 a second to realize which app was missing from the "all apple" home screen since they are adding two apps where there was previously only space for one more. The inclusion of voice recorder and the compass has apparently bumped contacts to page 2 (or has it been removed and fully incorporated in the phone app since search was the main feature).

Maybe its OCD nerdiness, but I always prided in keeping page 1 pure and pushing all downloaded apps to page 2+.

the contacts app has always been on page two ever since it was introduced in 2.0?

Take this as an example.

I bought a MBP last year. (Exactly 1 year tomorrow.) It got one with multi-touch. I fully expected that Apple would take advantage of that tech by

What a bunch of whining.
Grow up, get over it.

espresso. ORIGIN 1940s: from Italian (caffè) espresso, literally ‘pressed out (coffee).’

the often-occurring variant spelling expresso —and its pronunciation |ikˈspresō|—is incorrect and was probably formed by analogy with express.

thanks, Dictionary.app

:D

Do you have any actual source for that statement, or are you just blowing smoke out your ass? Since the 3GS is going to be the brand new device in the iPhone ecosystem, the vast majority of iPhones will not have the faster processor. How any developers do you think are going to build their wares so only a small percentage of customers can use them?

It was a dig at everyone who was saying "omg don't upgrade they didn't change anything".

So the story here...

1. If your on the 1st gen do you all feel like you should upgrade to this one or wait for the next one?

Just wonder input on this.

Glad you asked. I've been with 1st Gen since day One. I live in San Diego and the EDGE connection is very good. Calls are great, connectivity is great. I use WiFi where ever I can, just like anyone. Here is my main reason for not jumping on the 3G or 3GS train just yet:

My AT&T wireless bill would go up $15.00 per month - data costs from EDGE to 3G would go up 10, and I'd have to pay 5 bucks for 200 texts, where now my texts are included.

What am I missing by NOT going 3GS, especially since I qualify for the best pricing now that my contract is nearly up?

Improved Performance (I'm happy with my current performance - it would have to be a MAJOR performance improvement to justify)
Built In Video Camera w/Editing (Nice, but I don't care)
3 Megapixel Camera (up from 2 - I have a nicer camera anyway)
Voice Control (My car dials numbers for me, for the rest, I have fingers)
Compass (A fascinating and somewhat useful ability, not a deal breaker)
16GB of space (I haven't even used up my current 8GB - I rotate play lists)
Color Choice of White (meh)

What do I GET on my 1st Gen iPhone come next week?

Cut, Copy, Paste / Spotlight / Landscape Keyboard / Voice Memos

Of course, for anyone who has been sitting on the fence for two years, now would be a wonderful time to jump into the iPhone pool. For me, let's see what next years' model will bring. ;)

Photos taken _from_ iPhone 3GS?

I'm a little late to this thread, but has anyone posted pictures taken from the iPhone 3GS's new camera? An A/B comparison with the 3G camera would be interesting, especially photos taken in low light.

I'm utterly perplexed by the many requests for a forward-facing video camera. What purpose does it serve? We're talking about a portable phone here - am I really going to walk around Chicago holding the phone in front of my head, talking at some dude's face on a four inch screen? While driving? How is that easier than just holding the phone up to your ear and talking, leaving your eyes free to pay attention to your surroundings? What benefits does video chat offer over just voice? It might look kind of cool, but I imagine 99% of iPhone users wouldn't use it with any degree of regularity.

If there's something I want to record and quickly share with someone, the 3GS can already do that with ease (well, once MMS is supported, although you can still email or host the video). This is something I can see iPhone users doing a lot of. But live video-chatting on a portable device seems more cumbersome than useful.

I think the 3Gs is a great update, and as someone who has been waiting to buy an iPhone until it had many of these features, I can't wait to get one.

I'm not going to be upgrading, for obvious reasons.

Which are ??????????????

I got the original iphone, upgraded last year and made $200 profit, then this year sold my 3G for $400 and upgraded for $4XX so am only out of pocket less than $50. So to have the latest iPhone for 3 years running is nice.
What are the OBVIOUS reasons you are not upgrading ?

All the calls for HD video recording are hilarious to me.

What is the point of shooting "HD" video with a 3-5mm plastic lens?

I'd stoked my 32 gig 3Gs will be able to record video at all.

Question for Switzerland residents: how much do I have to pay on average to cancel my contract with Sunrise or other carriers? I wanna move to Swisscom and get the new iPhone...I can't stand Sunrise without an iPhone anymore!

The first scenario that comes to mind is a clueless husband doing the grocery shopping, instigating a video call so his wife can clue him in on which shampoo product she asked him to get. Or it would be a great way to catch up with a long-removed family member. My entire family is back on the east coast... I make video calls to my mom on a regular basis, except of course, when I'm not home... it'd be nice for me to be able to do a video call with her even when I don't have my macbook on-hand.

I do agree, however, that it's a feature that won't be used frequently. Then again, that doesn't detract from how much I'll appreciate the feature during the infrequent instances in which it gets used...

So, this is the old "I'm ENTITLED to free stuff!"-argument.... Seriously, why is it that so many people these days think that they are entitled to everything? Fact is that you are not entitled to anything at all.

That entitlement comes from shelling out hundreds up hundreds of dollars extra over the competition. If I pay that much, I expect that much more. What don't you get out of that?

Alerts and ringtones

Does anyone know if the 3.0 software is going to add any new rintones and more importantly text alerts. While we can get creative with rigntones, the text options have been limited for two years now.
THX! :apple:

So because you bought the expensive, sleek, Armani-design Samsung 47" LCD, you are entitled to anything more than anybody else who bought the dull 40" model ?

Weird logic.

I would call that "bitching about".

A signal worthy of voice chat IN a grocer?? I call shenanigans.

Smith, either you shop in one of those newfangled underground grocery strores, or I'm making a big mistake giving up my Verizon coverage :p I'm hoping I'll still get a good signal from inside a building :)

Lets see. You decided to shell out "hundreds up hundreds of dollars extra over the competition" for a phone with a certain configuration. What more can you expect? You got what you bought. Are you saying you shelled out "hundreds up hundreds of dollars extra over the competition" for something you did not want? Why would anyone do that? YOU DECIDED to buy it, live with it as is or don't buy it to begin with. </rant>

It's hit or miss in the metro Columbus area. We are so sprawled its a wonder AT&T, VZW, Tmobile and Spring can handle it. 5 counties of sprawl is quite a bit of area to have to cover with strong signal and 3g+ speeds.

Dude's probably a member of the new generation of entitlement. Wonder how much pirated crap he's got on his moms macbook.

Someone mentioned real racing and star defense do not work properly on the 3G iPhone. I beg to differ! I have played both without a hitch or any hiccups. No crashes or even frame skips. After taking about upgrading to the new iPhone my wife and I are going to swap. Meaning she will get my 3g iPhone and I will purchase the 3GS that aT we can develop on both hardware scales
