"The camera is among the best ever put into a phone. Its lowlight shots blow away the same efforts from an iPhone 4S."

Don't tell me this!

This alone might be enough for me to upgrade (I use my phone as a camera A LOT).

I believe my wife’s Xperia ION has a 12 MP camera and the pictures look amazing. It is the only reason she chose it.

"It is now chamfered and while that looks pretty, we've already noticed that on the black model the edge has started to wear, revealing the shiny silver aluminium metal underneath the "slate" coloured coating and, indeed, we've witnessed it on two separate models, ruling out a fluke manufacturing error."
I hope not. :( I ordered a black one.

While USB might be a standard for many phones, its still limited to USB. A proprietary connector would have a better chance to hook up to a variety of different standards without even bigger/expensive converter boxes.

Is anyone else reporting the black coating wearing off besides Pocket-Lint? Because their photos of the damage are not even that clear...

"It’s just too bad about that connector change. Doesn’t Apple worry about losing customer loyalty and sales?"

Wow what a stupid comment. Apple has changed their connector less than any other manufacturer yet they get this kind of grief over it. Pathetic.

No, not stupid. At least not any more stupid than yours. Yes, the new connector is a great connector. I'm looking foward to using it. AND YES! It does suck that we have to replace everything. At least Apple could have improved this transition by giving away the converter plug for free with the phone for a short while. I guess they just don't make enough money already!

If I could vote your comment down, I would.

I hate wireless synching. It takes forever. I don't understand why Apple put USB3 in their new MBPs but not their iPhones. A thunderbolt cable would also have been nice as well. Imagine syncing/backing up in seconds rather minutes or hour depending on the amount of music, apps, and other data you have on your iPhone/iPad?

I couldn't agree more on the USB 3.0 idea. But, I'm sure they'd not had the room for the larger USB 3.0 chips and the cables/connectors are also quite different than USB 2.0, they don't look different but they are. USB 3.0 is nice and fast though.

Wireless really isn't about speed, it's about convience. The idea behind this sync is to do it in the background not affecting you or your use of the phone. You don't worry about it and it just happens in it's own sweet time. To bad it's just a battery drain, because that's the only reason I don't use it. That and it doesn't work all the time.

Thinner, faster. But still cannot recieve an attachment modify it and then resend through email.

What good is speed when the OS restricts you from doing anything useful.

This phone will be just as useless as my iPhone 4 and all other iphones I've had.

iOS is garbage. Great hardware, sucky software.

 Except you can receive an attachment, modify it, and then resend through email.

I agree. I can't tell you how ridiculous the complaints are about Apple changing their connector. Technology can't progress unless their is change.

I have a TON of dock connector speakers, cables, and other accessories, and I know it's going to cost me about $150 just for all the adapters I need. Yet I embrace the change because it means there will be a new, better connector for the (hopefully) next 10 years or so.

I have heard a lot of suggestions about how people think Apple should have used the micro-usb. They must not know that the micro-usb doesn't even have the capabilities of the existing 30-pin dock connector. The micro-usb is good for charging a battery and that's about it.

I think the move to the new connector is smart.

While I would have loved to see USB3, isn't the bottleneck the speed of the flash storage on the device?

Transferring files over the cable, does it reach speeds that saturate USB? And are there any phones that have USB3 that actually transfer at speeds higher than USB2 could handle?

Complaining about the USB2 only makes sense if going to 3 would actually make it faster.

I can't tell you how ridiculous the complaints are about Apple changing their connector.

I have no problem with them changing the connector. My only complaint about it is that they're not including an adapter free in the box. If they did that there would probably be a tenth the complaints about it.

Are you sure, I think you do. A big fat Apple logo slapped right in the centre.

You could wear a hat? Would that help disguise your inadequacies?

I hear poor attempts or obviouse use of sarcasumn make the logo more prominent. Maybe if you stopped posting lame and poor knee-jerk responses to people's threads, and restrained from presonal attacks, you might get better, over time... If its not an illness...

You just carry on enjoying trolling a forum of a product you hate. I don't go in Samsung forums because I don't own their products, I go on Apple forums because I generally like their products. I'm not the one with a problem here.

No free connector, as that assumes each and every iP5 purchaser has a requirement for one. Not everyone does. What they should do, however, is discount the adapter for iP5 purchasers for a defined period of time. Making sales and creating good will makes sense, and everyone wins.

I agree with you on this one. I realize that it definitely costs money to fabricate these adapters. But given that Apple has been using the old 30-pin connector for about 11 years, it would've been convenient if one came in the box so that we could use the accessories we already have. With that said, I'm not opposed to 'buying' an adapter. However, I still can't stomach the fact that it costs about $30. I was hoping it would have been more reasonable - say $10 - like the price of the magsafe to magsafe2 adapter.

True that not everyone needs one. Instead of putting it in the box they could make it a free add on when buying/ordering so people wouldn't end up with ones they wouldn't use. Next best thing is your suggestion, a significant discount on at least one adapter would be a major improvement.

And apple has done freebies in the past, they included a magsafe adapter with displays even though it was something not everyone would need.

Not in the Basic OS. Apple lock you out from many basic features. Also like file browsing wich provides the ability to manage your own data.

Ohhhhh dear, this is not Trolling, I'm mearly pointing out if you should think before you decide to slam someone with difference of opinion. Or at least try to provide a less a lame response.

Maybe you should look at the opposition, you might find a world on productivity.
Apple has some good features, but the iOS has been stagnant for the past 2 years. This is not just my opinion. Other share similar views.

This is always the depressing part. These folks have been playing with an iPhone 5 for days and i'm still stuck on "Preparing for Shipment"

*sigh*
Yes mine says prepared fro shipment and I ordered it mins after launch. I will be pissed if I don't get it Friday!!!

Whereby "stagnant" you mean either "I'm going to ignore or dismiss the actual changes" or "no widgets".

(Coincidentally, 90% of Android users have an OS that's more than 2 years old. :D)

This limitaion is through choice. It's a way that Apple get to control what you do on the device. It's the only OS to limit you from basic file browsing of your own data. It's not a feature. Apps should not be needed to fulfill the most basic of needs and requirements. That's just call poor OS functionality.

Keep shifting those goalposts. Your original post that I questioned claimed that you cannot open an email attachment, edit it, and resend it via email on iOS. That is not true.

How do you figure they limit you from browsing your own data?
Without an application, how do you expect to do anything with your data?

Linux at it's core can't do anything with a PDF, or a 7zip file, or a .doc file without the appropriate application. This is the case with all OS's. You are a Troll.

Each application creates it's own file structure for storage and syncronization to the cloud if the developer chooses.

PhotoForge has a structure for photos.
iUnarchive has a structure for archives.
Adobe Reader has a file structure for PDFs.

Not to mention the apps sourced from Apple... Photos, iBooks, Music each have browsing of your own data.

iOS is boring

now I have an iPad 2 but I still think iOS is boring

And you were expecting a computer operating system to entertain you how exactly? My advice to you is get some apps, now they're really fun! They have games and everything.

You cannot compare the two in this way. This year Android had 9 million preorders against the 2 million Apple preorders. But many of these 9 million users only need or expect a Phone from the handset. You cannot compare the two and expect meaningful results.

But the facts that can be compared: Any of the 9 million andriod users could have upgraded to the latest OS if desired and benefited from the new advancements and features. Compare this to how many iPhone 4 people upgraded to the latest iOS but were still locked out from features such as Siri.

Apple chose to not allow this feature. The hardware is compatable. How is this supporting it's user base. Apple do not deserve loyalty. They will squeeze every last $ from you because that's all their after.

I won't. I'm now switching to Samsung. But that doesn't mean I cannot provide my opinion or comments.

Super! I hear the Samsung is a lovely phone and its users are super happy with it. I hope you are too! Have an absolutely lovely day now, and don't forget, enjoy your phone, we're sure enjoying ours :)

You have no idea what your talking about. Browsing is basic OS functionality. Apple have restricted this in iOS. Each App has to create its own browsing feature as a work around but its limited to its own App. This is not an intuitive way to work and limits the overall capabilities of the device and it's potential.

As to your reference to Linux, depends on the build you are using. Unbunto can.

Yes it is true. The OS does not do this without support from paid Apps. Even with the right apps installed, it's still clunky and difficult.

If I update my iPhone 4 today, I'll get "Do Not Disturb"...and I'm struggling to think what else will truly be great to have. No Siri, no Facetime over Cellular, no Turn by Turn (and without that Apple Maps is more of a downgrade), not even Panorama. Facebook integration, Passbook and Safari iCloud Tabs are nice enough but not exactly worth a year's wait.

But hey, I'm on the latest iOS right? The number is all that matters.
