Aaarrrgh. Must. Stop. Reading. Reviews.

I had managed to convince myself that I didn't need to upgrade my iphone4. But, but, but.... all these reviews!

I WANT ONE! There. I've said it.

So the weak anodize rubs of the edges. They should have used a 2 mil type III hard anodize. Would have been a selling point.

The real problem is what to call the issue. "anogate" just doesn't seem to roll off the tongue.

I actually haven't preordered yet but glad I waited. From the reviews it sounds like the iPhone 5 is just the iphone 4SS. Wow, I can't believe they're using USB2 tech for the connector/cable. I guess they're holding back a USB 3.0 connector for the iPhone 6. Oh well I still got time to decide if I really want or need to upgrade my 4.

i'm sure they can always change the usb end to usb 3.0

How do we know it's an issue?

"It’s just too bad about that connector change. Doesn’t Apple worry about losing customer loyalty and sales?"

Wow what a stupid comment. Apple has changed their connector less than any other manufacturer yet they get this kind of grief over it. Pathetic.
Maybe it's because there is no concept of customer loyalty with other brands. People simply "buy" whatever happens to be the coolest free-with-contract phone at the moment they walk into the store.

With iCloud, photo stream, backup and wireless syncing does anyone use the cable for anything more than charging and major OS updates?

iPhone 5 is definitely a solid upgrade. It looks beautiful. It's appealing. But I don't think it's a no brainer upgrade for iPhone 4/4S owners as some reviewers suggest that it is.

Its a no brainer for an iPhone 4 user, not so much for a 4S.

I guess the 4S has magically gained a 4" IGZO screen, double the CPU and RAM, 5Ghz wifi, and LTE.

"The camera is among the best ever put into a phone. Its lowlight shots blow away the same efforts from an iPhone 4S."

Don't tell me this!

This alone might be enough for me to upgrade (I use my phone as a camera A LOT).

Just do it!!!

I get my Iphone 5 this friday but let me point of few things that IMO are not right.

The new maps blows, at least on the 4S ios6 beta. Lets see if there is massive improvement. I don't like there overlay for streets, gmaps is more of a style that i like. I know some people may like the new maps, and of course that is fine, but personally, apple is not a maps company and just can't compete with the infrastructure google has laid down for its own. I read the google earth can do maps, ill try it out to see if it works like a dedicated maps app. If not, please google release the damn maps. haha

The review about the slate wearing off is one to take note of. If mine wears off, and it's ugly, i'm going to wish i got the white one. And i prefer not to use a case.

I haven't heard anything about the speakers, i hope they improved even though the 4S aren't that bad.

excited for a improved camera. lighter feel, and speedier phone! Doesn't mean it won't have flaws though.

iPhone 5 is faster but do you use your phone in such a way that you'll really benefit from this? Do you use apps that are constantly pushing the limits of the device?
On my iPhone 4, even standard apps feel slow sometimes. Maps and Safari are the two I use most. I often find that the app takes a few seconds to respond to a click. This is most likely a symptom of the phone being low on available RAM, but it's still worth the upgrade for me. I've also noticed games taking significantly longer to load. I don't know if this is just the games getting more complex, or due to the additional retina assets added when iPad 3 hit.

That's what the extra S is for :p I'm going to wait to play with my friend's iPhone 5 before taking the plunge. I usually avoid odd number hardware revisions for Apple products. So we'll see.

Waiting for the Verge's review!

I am not really excited about the verge anymore. They find iOS boring. They prefer Android and that's ok, but I cannot accept their opinion. They just don't get it. They don't understand Apple's philosophy. That's a shame because I really like Joshua Topolsky.

Too early to overreact. Antenna-gate is one thing not to notice, but wear over a short period? As meticulous as Apple is, I wouldn't have expected them to overlook such a quality flaw. That said, we have absolutely no idea how Pocket Lint used their iP5. I remember back when CNet was reviewing the Galaxy Nexus they mentioned the phone was dropped several times and that's why the back cover was no longer flush to the device.

iOS is boring

now I have an iPad 2 but I still think iOS is boring

The only negative that I am hearing is from the maps.

To that end, this is where Apple Maps falls flat on its face. For large parts of the UK, it just doesn’t feature the public transport you need. Now, I’m not talking about public transport routing — for that kind of thing I have dedicated apps that do it better — I’m talking about actually showing train stations, tube stations, bus stops, and things like that on the map; kind of important if you don’t know where the hell you’re going.

It’s not just public transport that Apple Maps totally fails on; it can’t find businesses or places either. Yelp has apparently provided its database to Apple, but compared to Google Maps it’s just poor. Searching for my local Center Parcs in Longleat, which is something rather big and bloody well should be in Apple’s business database, Apple Maps protested that it, frankly, didn’t exist. Combining missing places with incorrect listings, like Birmingham’s Bullring being spelt “Bull Ring,” it makes it really hard to find what you’re looking for. Oh yeah, and Apple didn’t bother to correct “Duncaster” either before launch.
Yeah, its got some not-so-insignificant issues there. We'll see better how that pans out probably in a few days. Most reviewers aren't going to catch issues like that.

I think one of the reasons why I think the iPhone 5 will sell is the fact you can still operate the phone with essentially one hand, which is not surprising considering that this was the last Apple piece of hardware that Jobs' personal design philosophy had major input on before his untimely passing (my guess is that the phone design was "frozen" just after Jobs' passing).

This is why the the phone is physically smaller than most other LTE-enabled cellphones and why the screen is small by 2012 standards.

- "It is now chamfered and while that looks pretty, we've already noticed that on the black model the edge has started to wear, revealing the shiny silver aluminium metal underneath the "slate" coloured coating and, indeed, we've witnessed it on two separate models, ruling out a fluke manufacturing error."

Don't like the sound of that, I hate to buy a black model and after a week have it look worn out.

My guess is that what they are seeing isn't the coating wearing off, but rather the hand oils coating the sharp edge and making it look like it's bare metal. I certainly worried enough about scratching the black and having raw aluminum show through to buy the white model instead. It's the first white model I've had, since being in the every iPhone since '07 club.
