This way the planned obsolescence plays out even better. 2 years life max of any iDevice. This means more money for Apple more often. It's genius.

Man, and all this time I thought my 3GS was still working since 2009, but really it's years past its max life. I probably should have looked at the expiration date.

Sweet.

Thanks for the link.

Don't thank me, thank Anand for his review, it's almost a troll repellent!

Seriously though, it looks like Apple has spent a ton of effort with the new chip and it is very intriguing not only in its performance but how they achieved it. It's still only a dual core and only clocked at 1.3Ghz but performs impressively, with a best-in-class GPU as usual although Qualcomm has done a great job with the Adreno 330 and they are in a virtual tie.

I wonder, if they can move ahead with more cores and higher clockspeed, what kind of performance can they get in a larger form factors. Does this mean the iPad Mini will have this very chip or a A7X, or a downclocked A7X compared to the larger iPad, or just the A7X? Will there be a bridge device between the iPad and the Macbook with the future A8/9/10? Maybe the rumored larger iPad will have a more powerful chip? Where will the M7 be used? So many questions.

You expected something different from a pro-Apple site?

Sometimes it's hard to tell this is a pro-Apple site by reading the forums. There are many here who have spent years just criticizing Apple, both overtly and passive-aggressively.

Waiting for The Verge's review. They are more Android lovey dovey these days than when they first launched their site. My have times changed..

The angry mob of rapid android users made them do it. That, and the buckets of cash from full page Samsung ads, too. :)

Oh come now, have you ever heard of Moore's Law? And mobile processors are advancing much faster than their desktop counterparts, so get used to it, or take it up with every other manufacturer as well if you must.

It's that the point of a fan site? The Android sites just speak of the wonders of the HTC One/S4 and how Apple buyers are just ignorant fanboys...

totally agree! 64bit and fp are merely mkting fodder for now. ppl should be worried about battery in 5s. Beware folks!

False. There are noticeable performance improvements by switching to 64 bit. Increased register numbers, a more efficient instruction set, etc.

No, it's not. This website just takes it too far. Other platform enthusiasts don't do that.

This is one of the most ignorant communities I've seen tbh.

Do you feel that the iPhone is limited by a lack of ram? I don't get comments like these.

Haha I know, right? Bigger is always better in the minds of some people. Sometimes they even buy bigger at the sacrifice of functional utility (i.e. when their phone screen is too big to fit easily in their pockets).

I smell the jealousy of fAndroids... thanks for visiting Apple fansite.

i have a bad feeling about 5s - the reviews are not that glowing for battery. they have almost same battery size but with two flashes (yea whatever they may call it for mkting - twin tone flash), processor which they say is twice powerful than previous one, and 64 bit which is without any doubt a cause of concern for the 5s buyers. and they havent upgraded the battery tech, it the same.

Buyers beware!

What? Why would two flashes kill the battery? Are you planning on taking pictures/recording video all day? And the A7 processor is incredibly efficient...

You're out of your mind if you think that people on Android fansites aren't just as passionate about their platform. Also I'd say MRs has been fairly negative (less positive) towards the iPhone since the 4s. People on here have been demanding "innovation" and "features." I think you're seeing some exaggerated exuberance now due to Apple firmly delivering on those requests with the 5s.

I'm sorry for my intrusion, but is everyone here from Africa or some distant far a way country's that did not know the invention of a radio device...I can't believe this moron "This probably won't be a popular opinion, but I find the 5s to be one of Apple's most innovative iPhones ever." !!

I am really interested in seeing if the fingerprint deal can be tricked. If not, I might actually upgrade to this phone for this feature alone. I hate having to type in a password almost every time I want to do something on my phone. If it works well, this (alongside iOS7, though that isn't 5S exclusive) is the best thing to happen to iPhone since the retina display, IMO.

Lol the fingerprint sensor is going to change things for pretty much everyone in the next couple years. It is one of the biggest advancements in smartphone hardware tech since 2007.

Completely agree. I don't think people have appreciated what this sensor will be able to do in the near future (keychain, in-store payments with your phone, etc). And once they open it up to app developers I'm sure there will be a number of creative uses that we couldn't possibly fathom at this point.

More importantly though all the technology will be owned/patented by Apple. Since all other fingerprint sensors are generally unreliable, it will be impossible for another smartphone manufacturer to match Apple's offering. This is not the case with pretty much any other piece of hardware in a phone (processor, camera, battery, screen). Apple could profoundly differentiate its smartphone + other product lines with this innovation.

To be fair, I have seen plenty of things praising Google (although not super heavily) on this site (and readers complained then too lol), and vice versa on Android (but no WP, as I recall) sites as well. They are not mutually exclusive. I will say, some of the headlines here are misleading, and borderline fanboy love. Not that this doesn't happen elsewhere, but I feel not as much. Could just be the writer's personality too.

As always, these are just my opinions/musings. :)

Yeah that's been my exact experience as well. I was just highlighting the fact that Android fans do say negative things about the iPhone.

Also since the Android platform has a number of high-end devices (each with their own supporters) I think the proverbial pot is naturally stirred. Here, if you support iOS you more or less have to support the iPhone.

There were huge leaps with the processor, addition of the M7 chip, camera/flash, and rock-solid fingerprint sensor. If you look at all the previous generational upgrades this is by far the most extensive and significant.

Still waiting on the Verge review. On the flipside, I was very pleased with the anandtech review. Skipping to the CPU/GPU benchmarks confirmed everything I was hoping for. Good to see that 64-bit is contributing to real performance gains now, even before moving to more RAM. It really is a shocking amount of performance out of a chip clocked at the same speed at as the A6. This combined with touch ID (finally giving me a way to secure my phone, as I had perviously avoided the cumbersome passcodes), the better low-light camera performance and the new Space Gray colour (making the bezels look better IMO), make it a very nice upgrade indeed, and i'll definitely be snapping up one these bad boys at around launch date.

I have the S4, switched from the 5. And i miss my 5, but the S4 does bring things the 5 could not, but its too big. Probably going to get the 5s.

5S with a wider screen, is that too much to ask for?? I'd be happy to jump right back if that happens, but right now there is no way I can come back from my Galaxy Note II to a 5something iPhone. I used to carry an iPhone and a tablet all the time, now it's just my phone. I know not everybody has the same needs, but why is it so hard for Apple to offer two sizes!
