What's innovative about it, other than the fingerprint sensor which has a fairly minimal functional value for most people? Iterating the processor and camera is useful but not innovative. You could make the case that IOS 7 is innovative, but that's not part of the phone; other iPhones can use it as well.

I entered my pass code more than 20 times a day, that's not a minimal functional value

The processor is way ahead of the other ARM players. The more elegant ARMv8 ISA with more registers and wider FP registers. In terms of computer architecture, this is a big leap forward (check Anandtech)

If what you said were true, Intel would have never been innovative. They simply upgrade their processors

Don't thank me, thank Anand for his review, it's almost a troll repellent!

Seriously though, it looks like Apple has spent a ton of effort with the new chip and it is very intriguing not only in its performance but how they achieved it. It's still only a dual core and only clocked at 1.3Ghz but performs impressively, with a best-in-class GPU as usual although Qualcomm has done a great job with the Adreno 330 and they are in a virtual tie.

I wonder, if they can move ahead with more cores and higher clockspeed, what kind of performance can they get in a larger form factors. Does this mean the iPad Mini will have this very chip or a A7X, or a downclocked A7X compared to the larger iPad, or just the A7X? Will there be a bridge device between the iPad and the Macbook with the future A8/9/10? Maybe the rumored larger iPad will have a more powerful chip? Where will the M7 be used? So many questions.

Sometimes it's hard to tell this is a pro-Apple site by reading the forums. There are many here who have spent years just criticizing Apple, both overtly and passive-aggressively.

"Troll repellent" ... Magical! :D

The only possible problem I have with fingerprint PW over ASCII PW is - what if the fingerprint sensor is having a bad day. Then you can't use your phone???

Think I'll continue using a PW until all the bugs are worked out...this is V1.0 after all...

Sounds pretty good so far from professional writers.

Though I'm still holding out for user reviews from people who use the phone on a daily basis. THAT'S when the rubber really hits the road.

5S with a wider screen, is that too much to ask for?? I'd be happy to jump right back if that happens, but right now there is no way I can come back from my Galaxy Note II to a 5something iPhone. I used to carry an iPhone and a tablet all the time, now it's just my phone. I know not everybody has the same needs, but why is it so hard for Apple to offer two sizes!

It's already under works for the 6 next year. You didn't seriously think they would do it for an traditionally iterative model like the 5S? Don't expect Note II size screen though. Something closer to the Moto X screen is much more likely. Me personally, i'm sticking to the 4" screen. I'm a male with slightly smaller than average sized hands.

Why there may be no bigger iPhone

one simple question, if there is a 5 inches device, what you intended to fit the screen with?

Cross IOS capability is the key. if sth fit with 5 inches, it has to be fits in iPhone 5 and may be iPhoen 4 as well. That makes more and more has to be accommodated in small size. If the solution is just to scale down everything, the clickable area would also be smaller and more difficult to "click".

If there is a 5" ish device, i foresee it would be a scale down of ipad with 4:3 screen. It makes sense, once the mini is "rationalize" , what can you do with the retina display on a "non retain device" ? Just jump back to 1024, and it makes sense. just like Ipad apps using the iphone app size icon.

So I guess the majority of the phone cases have come to the end of their life cycles since the home button can't be layered with anything.

Most cases don't cover or even approach the home button. Screen guards, on the other hand...

There's a passcode backup for such a situation. And for the situation of you needing someone to unlock your phone when you can't reach it.

Sounds great.

But a year I must wait.

You and the rest of us will be fine as we hold off for the iPhone 6 next year. :)

MacRumors likes to blog about good things about Apple, and dig up dirt on the competition.

Well if you want to read some criticism about Apple I suggest you head over to some Android sites and check them out. I read they like to punk on Apple and glorify Android's platform.

2 years like max??? Where are you getting this number from...? There are still 2+ year old iPhones out there being used regularly everyday. Do they eventually stop being supported? Yeah, but definitely not obsolete.

Apparently my dry humor isn't appreciated here.

Eh the smartwatch thing is probably a bad example. I (along with many others) personally hate the idea of wearing a watch, and doubt I would ever buy one from any company. On that admittedly biased basis I think their watch is pretty miserable and I find myself agreeing with much of what that individual said. I suppose I appreciate Samsung trying to push into new areas but I'm afraid that offering just didn't do it for me.

I think a better example would be to find people on MRs who knock screen size. Its clear that their is a significant market demand for phones with larger screens and I guarantee Apple will produce a device that can capture those potential sales. I'm willing to bet that many of those "large screen-haters" would suddenly become in love with large screen phones when Apple makes a move into that territory.

This is where the pathological lying comes in. You will do a 360° turnaround with that statement you just made. You do not like the idea of a smartwatch, but if Apple announces a smartwatch tomorrow, you will do a complete 360°.

This is why I want Apple to take advantage of this, and with the 5c, the kind of are.

Skipping math class was a bad idea. When/if you get to college it won't work out so well.

Man, and all this time I thought my 3GS was still working since 2009, but really it's years past its max life. I probably should have looked at the expiration date.

I'm sure it works as quickly and smoothly as it did in 2009 too. Really, I bet it would if you could downgrade to iOS 3.

i am proposing a reason not to buy 5s. Ppl will repent after buying it because of battery. There is no way out... ofcourse yes you can survive for few more additional minutes if you put the brightness to the lowest.
So how much you got paid by Samsung or some other companies? Your strange username suggests you are expecting to get banned. And by proposing your reason not to buy, what do you achieve? A wet pant?? Feel sorry for you mate!

No you have to have a code to enter regardless of weather you just use the finger scanner or not (after 48 hours of not using the finger scanner it requires you to enter your code even).

Your comment is very innovative....

Normally those who never invented anything in their lives make your comment

You can always fall back to the number passcode since it is required before you set up your Touch ID.

Heavier..

Heavier into debt and heavier on landfills. I went to see a film tonight about a space station community for the rich, while the rest of the earth rotted, but did they rot - you should see for it yourself.

Anyways, they had a lot of security and secrets, they uploaded right into the human brain (organic machine) and uploaded it to the electronic machine killing the human in the process.

So it instantly made me think of the eye-fone five es. Someone on here posted along the lines of people with fingers cut off, should they have really - really important "secret and sensitive" info on their fones to gain complete access not only to their devices but everything in the "clouds". Don't get to excited to get the next fone ???

What Dan Riccio (Apple senior VP hardware engineering) said:
"The technology within Touch ID is some of the most advanced hardware and software we've put in any device."

What Dan Riccio was thinking:
"Stop! Hammer Time!
Daaah da-da-dum. Da-dum. Da-dum. U can't touch this!
Daaah da-da-dum. Da-dum. Da-dum. Break it down now!"

That's hilarious. The phones been out for 10 seconds and you already know the battery is crap from the massive sample of results and user feedback you have received?
It has a new processor, (well 2 actually). It is likely more efficient. just like the engine in the car you bought this year is more fuel efficient whilst more powerful than the one you bought last year.

Let's just wait a little while at least eh?
