I'll wait for the 6s+ in 12 months, more RAM, faster CPU, Sapphire glass, better camera...

Me too. Apple saved many obvious spec updates for the next year's 6S models, and I don't mind waiting one more year.

Every reviewer's usage is different, so what it comes down to screen-on time. And the fact is the 5S has a better screen-on time than the 6.

I have a feeling that the iPhone 6 screen was on for most of their review period. But anyway...

To me... a screen-on test would be to put both phones at 100% brightness... disable the screen timeout... turn on Airplane Mode... and let them sit there until they expire.

But again... that would just be one type of test. There are many:

Video playback
Audio playback
Talk time
3G web browsing
4G web browsing
Casual games
3D games
and so on...

You quoted that one video playback test... and its results were certainly interesting. But it doesn't tell the whole story.

Let's hope Anandtech does their review soon. These journalists weren't set up to run the full gamut of tests.

But overall... the journalists concluded that the iPhone 6 has more battery life than the iPhone 5S in everyday tasks.

That's not saying much since the 5S is already terrible compared to other flagship devices.

Ah. Ok. I see.

Carry on...

Why don't you wait for the 7 then? Just a 24 month wait for even more RAM, an even faster CPU, hardened Sapphire glass, better camera... and iOS 10 will be quite snappy on it.

because 7 will be just redesign and minor bump in specs.. S is where innovation happens, deal with it

Ahhh going to be so difficult to choose between the Plus and the Note 4. I'm afraid the iPhone will end up being just that bit too tall for my pockets though. :( And with a screen this size, no dual window multitasking is quite a loss.

Then why are you here? This isn't let's talk about Android forums. I had a Note II for 18 months and couldn't get rid of it fast enough. The iPhone 5 with a 4" screen was a much more productive phone than the Note II ever was. I can't begin to imagine how much the productivity of the 6+ will be running circles around any Note device.

Not too happy about the 1 GB of RAM in the phones as reported by MacWorld. They'll be struggling to keep up when Apple eventually releases split-screen multitasking.

Seriously, what IS the point of spli screen multitasking and Android fanboys fascination with it!? I don't know a huge number of friends without iPhones, but those that have this feature never use it nor see it as anything more than a pointless gimmick.

Take a step back and you'll see what a ridiculous statement that is. The iPhone is a constant work in progress with each model's spec superseding the other. If it was as you suggest then the 7 would have identical specs and features as the 6s with just cosmetic changes and the 7s would be only internal changes and new OS features.

But the 6 is miles ahead of the 5, spec-wise, just as the 5 beats the 4, and on down the line. The 7s will likely be a superior phone to the 7 until its leapfrogged by the 8. And the cycle continues. The best iPhone is the current model out. Period.

That's what I thought too. And I feel the same as David from The Verge when he says "This doesn't feel like a revolutionary device, it feels like Apple playing catch up and give people what they want".

Well, when was the last revolutionary smartphone released? I think it was in 2007. :D Ever since then, we have just seen variations and evolutionary improvements.

For me, personally, the phase detection AF on the iPhone camera is a major revolution (if Apple implemented it well, which remains to be seen). I own a Canon EOS 70D which incorporates just that functionality, and it was considered quite a big deal. Read or watch any review of the 70D, and the AF will always be the major topic in the review, while it's just an afterthought in iPhone 6 reviews. Of course, this is something that the majority of users won't care about, so if I had to write a review, I probably wouldn't use the title "New iPhone with revolutionary camera upgrade!" ;) I think it's something that most people will only notice when they go back to a camera that does not have this technology. And yes, in half a year, every Samsung phone will have phase detection AF.

Other than that, yep, it's a bigger thinner iPhone with a better display and a new payment method that is not rolled out yet. So it's just about as exciting as every other phone release since Steve Jobs held up the first iPhone in 2007. Exciting enough for me, but obviously not for everyone.

Dude! It's all about doing spreadsheets while you're watching movies. Duh!

I for one would love multitasking. So many times I've needed information in one app while working in another. It would be a huge boon to my productivity.

This is what people get confused with and focus too much on, I have had iPhones since the 3GS, and i think they are brilliant. No they don't have every feature under the sun, and no they don't always have the newest technology, but what they do and what they do better than any other compony, is make a brilliant OS and brilliant hardware that works very well together.

About a year ago, i broke with tradition and tried the Samsung Galaxy S4, i lived to regret it sooner than later. While i enjoyed the fact that it had a bigger screen, the OS, it's features and it's technology were far from great. The battery life was terrible, so it's no wonder they go on about having removable battery, because i needed it. It's fancy features such as being able to wave your hand over the screen, were impressive to hear about, but rarely worked, and when they did, they felt out of place and clunky. To cut a long story short, just because Samsung put every feature into every phone, doesn't make it great, in fact far from it.

I see. So there was no inclusion of NFC from the 5S to the 6? No phase detection AF? OIS in the 6 Plus? Just a minor bump in specs?

If the S is where the innovation happens, then why has the press complained about every "S release" so far as being boringly evolutionary? I have a feeling that people only remember the 5S release.

Ultimately, the truth is in the middle: The only difference between the tick and tock releases is that the tick release adds a redesign on top of everything else. But when it comes to technology upgrades and innovation, Apple adds it to whichever release they want and whenever they feel that the technology is ready.

It's funny though that I read posts by some people who say they wait for the 6S, because it will be the major upgrade, while others say they wait for the 6S because it is the minor upgrade in which all the early adopter issues of the 6 will be ironed out.

The revolution is over. It's just a phone now, there's nothing left to impress.

That said... "Sexy" is the last word I'd use to describe this phone. Once again Ive has demonstrated the horrors of design without checks and balances. This one should've been binned at doodle-on-a-cocktail-napkin stage, instead we're stuck with it for two years. This is what happens when there's no Steve to yell, "Jony that's ****ing ugly you gotta do better than that."

Too tall? 4.5mm taller. That's half of the pencil width.

Canon 70D owner here too.

And yes... every 70D review talked about the auto-focus. I read them for months... drooling! :D

I'm excited to see it in action on the iPhone 6. It will be a welcome upgrade... even if it's not a headlining feature.

Sometimes those are the best features... the ones that stay out of the way and just quietly improve the overall experience.

I just waited for this. It is great, nice looking and big screen.
I also saw Samsung galaxy S6 and it's awful. I don't like not even the look and specifications of it. I expected to much more but seems iPhone 6 rules :) i like it.

Benchmarks show better results 6 vs 6+, maybe it does have 2gb ram?

6+ has 2GB of RAM, my body tells me so. Be honest, I would care less. My iphone 5 and wife's 5S are fast and smooth like a dream, so beefy A8 will perform excellent even with 1GB of RAM.
I'm very possitive that next version may have more RAM.

Can anyone tell me what the 'predicted' resale value on an iPhone 6 would be exactly one year from now if I were to purchase (order) one this week? Let's say I bought it full price this month (no contract), would I get at least 50-60% back when I resell it one year from now?

$350/16GB and more if sells on eBay. Just look at the 5S now, it's $330 trade in and >$400 on eBay.

I hope that you're right, because I will still be rocking with my iP5 in the next year. :) iP5S with the Touch ID showed us last year that it isn't always true that the "S" model is just a facelift with no apparent improvements. Even the appereance of the 6S might be slightly altered / fine-tuned next year.

The Verge giving the 6 a 10/10 for the display would imply that it couldn't possibly be any better at this time point. That's just a completely ridiculous statement.

"The iPhone doesn't feel like quite a revolutionary device. It feels like Apple playing catch up."

- The Verge

Pretty much sums it up, unfortunately.

he also called it the best phone on the planet.

Note 3 owner and I'm not impressed. If the iPhone 6 plus caught up to the Note 3 then Note 4 has no problem winning phablet of the year.

Catch up means screen size? Or Touch ID, 64-bit hardware/OS, Apple Pay or full metal body? Oops, Note 3/4 got none of these or some but don't work well (finger print, Google Wallet on Note 3 or 64-bit chip in 32-bit OS on Note 4...lol)

My contract ends Monday, so I'll be going through the reviews with a fine tooth comb and deciding if the IP6+ is worth the $$ and presumably the wait as I have to find a store that will actually have it in stock.

Me too. Apple saved many obvious spec updates for the next year's 6S models, and I don't mind waiting one more year.

At that time, there will be only a year to the next NEW iPhone. Never ending stoooryyyy :D
I'm buying it now. There will always come something better in the horizon

No.. S versions have proven to be mostly tweaks, not much more
