My orange 17 Pro Max will deliver only in October. However very excited to see the new iPhones. Will be visiting a store soon and will be trying out the new devices and also want to see all the colors.

What an excellent article!

For me, the following stood out:

With the tendency of humans to look at images of themselves, shooting in widescreen also used to bring the risk of eyelines wandering sideways, but that’s less of an issue with the camera above the screen.

It's very perceptive, informational. People, read his article. Plus, it's also not a Long Read.

I'll be upgrading from a 15 Pro as well!

Does the weight & size difference feel substantial? Been using my 15 Pro daily for 2 years, curious how that transition in terms of difference is gonna be!
Indeed very tempting upgrade if only for the battery life on my end.

Wow. I just held the air. It’s so light and looks really slick. But also feels a bit too light maybe…. I think the 16 Pro feels quite good ,and I’ve got used to that feeling/wgt being associated with a more premium phone maybe. I have until 8 to decide.

Looks like the AirPod pro 3 is the bottleneck this year.
Getting the phone and the watch today but the air pods still not received a notification, meant to pick them up today along with the watch.
Made a coo when ordering the phone and selected delivery rather than pick up, Apple support said unable to change that was last Saturday, so hoping my stars align.

I went to the Apple Store in Tokyo to get a feel from the new devices. I have the iPhone 16 Pro in natural titanium, but when I picked up the 17 Pro in silver I literally said out loud “wowwww this is heavy… and thick”. Also the back looks really bad in comparison to the 16 Pro in my opinion. The blue at least looks decent.

The Air was really nice, but not as thin and light as I was expecting after all these reviews.

That’s exceptionally rude behavior to exhibit in a shop in Tokyo.

So for you 7 extra grams feels heavier but 35g difference the Air doesn’t feel as light as you expected…just seems you try to find excuses to stay with your 16 p thats all

I just don’t like the look of what seems is the sticker on the back of that silver 17 pro

Perfectly understandable. I don’t mind it, and think this is actually better, with the MagSafe ring on the inside, as opposed to the ring in full view.

Has anyone got an opinion on the air after holding it etc? I ordered the pro and off to collect it this morning, but think I might change if possible. I’m on the upgrade programme so it’s only for a year. It might feel like a change after three or four steady years of incremental-better-but-sameish.

6 hours in and I’m still amazed at how thin and light it feels. The single camera is absolutely fine for my needs (I use a Nikon Z6II for proper photos) and the speaker is surprisingly good, which was my main worry. I only use the speaker for FaceTime calls and the odd YouTube video so my standards might be lower than most, but it’s decently loud and clear. Zero regrets going for the Air.

It was in a very crowded Apple Store, just standing at the demo tables, but most importantly…. it was in Dutch 😂 And I’ve been to Japan more than enough to understand the cultural expectations.

It’s OK if you feel different about it, I’m just sharing how it was for me. Also my wife said the exact same thing, so I guess we are both looking for excuses 😉

How was the battery life after those 6 hours?

Sack of crap DHL UK. Mine was on truck for delivery today and now they changed status to:

We're sorry but the delivery of your shipment xxxxxx (1 parcel expected) has been delayed. We expect to deliver on the next working day

Just a question - do these new phones have some special, out of this world storage?
All the previous models had usually 150 USD difference between sizes - from 128 to 256, 256 to 512...

Now it's 300 USD for the same thing?!

On a side note - I am quite happy I got a good deal on iPhone 15 last year, the last one with the classic mute switch. And I really liked 16 with its vertical camera arrangement - the same goes for plain 17 this year. But the Pro? It's probably the ugliest iPhone ever. I know it's going to be in some sort of a case most of the time but you will still be able see that hideous giant camera bump. And I just cannot get over that off-centre Apple logo. Just doesn't seem right.

Thank you very much for sharing. I love the design of this phone which is why I ordered it. My usage will be similar to yours which is fine for my needs. Reminds me a little of the XS Max which I still use for a secondary phone and is in pristine condition. I even put a new battery in it recently. I have been awaiting a new design ever since I purchased the 14 Pro which I have loathed from the start and will use as a bookend. I still have the 3gs which I lovingly look at every once in awhile . Design has always been a priority and the Air will fit this desire. Mine are on the UPS truck already and will be delivered earlier this morning than anticipated. (Ordered a blue and white for comparison but most likely keep the cloud white) I admit this is the first time since the XS Max I've actually been excited to purchase another phone. Enjoy your phone. Lovely photo.

Awesome, not long to wait for you then! You’ll love it I’m sure. Totally the same for me with the excitement factor. This genuinely feels like something different and new, just like when they unveiled the X. In my view this is the best iPhone that Apple has released, at least in my definition of best (won’t be everyone’s).

Out of curiosity, why do you loathe the 14 Pro?
