For those of you pissing an moaning, this is why Apple continues to disable jailbreaking.

I have a jailbroken iPhone and I didn't even know you could pirate apps until I read this thread.

I don't know why anyone would pirate apps that cost only a couple of dollars.

You obviously dont know the mindset of pirates. They will always look for a free alternative before buying a product because they think that every developer has a hit on them or something.

Any jailbreaker who is using OpenSSH should have the common sense to either turn off SSH when its not in use or change the password as soon as it's installed. Preferably do both. And, most jailbreakers know what they are doing (majority are technically able) .... otherwise they wouldn't even bother jailbreaking

:apple: KrayzieKray :apple:

I posted this on AppleInsider as well, but I already feel the need to post it again.

If you don't want to jailbreak and are happy with your phone, that is fine. I am glad you are happy. I'll never understand the vigilant anti-jailbreakers who come to message boards like this one and denigrate people who jailbreak their phones, spread mis-information, and in this case basically gloat that they get what they deserve. What do you get out of this? Is it that oh so smug feeling that you are somehow better or smarter than others? You know better? Well, nobody really wants to hear it. Unless you have something useful to add, why don't you just take your smug somewhere else?

Its all related to jealousy mate. Like how i feel that my brother can try out absolutely any program for free before he buys it or can decide weather a program is worth buying and I can't. I have get burned first and live with it. There's 100 000 apps. There's bound to be a crap apps.

Plus apple blocks too many apps from entering the appstore. Opera Mobile for one.

I see what people are on about with the misleading articles.

I just saw the story on BBC News and until the guest person explained it would only affect "jailbroken or hacked iPhones" you'd think that everyone was going to fall victim.

The other thing is they didn't even try to explain what a jailbroken iPhone was so people who are not really into technology will still be non the wiser.

Wow! It is just a simple worm, why is everybody going ******* crazy about it...
On another note,

We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy
I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up,
Never gonna let you down,
Never gonna run around and desert you,
Never gonna make you cry,
Never gonna say goodbye,
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but you're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it
And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see

(Ooh give you up)
(Ooh give you up)
(Ooh) never gonna give, never gonna give
(give you up)
(Ooh) never gonna give, never gonna give
(give you up)

We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but you're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Cheer the **** up!

wow...macrumors censors the posts! how soft..

And this is why jailbreakers annoy me. Have fun basking in your stupidity people! :p

You got lucky with this first one not being malicious, but malicious ones will certainly come!

Why would anyone wish ill on people who jailbreak their phone?

I jailbroke my iPhone to get the program that displays calendar information and e-mails on the LockScreen -- which is a gigantic time-saver for me, given the number of schedule items I have on a daily basis. It was a feature I missed from my Windows Mobile days, and it's utterly harmless in the grand scheme of things.

Seriously -- grow up.

Thats what you get for jailbreaking.

Nice, real nice. Hey, I know, let me praise Apple for limiting what we as the consumer should be able to do with the device that we pay for! Really? If I am paying for a product then I should be able to customize it to my own desire. I jail-broke my iPhone and am happy that I did. Multitasking? Got it. More apps? Got it. Google voice? Got it. Customizable home screen? Got it. Purchased pirated software? Nope. Am I a potential threat to this worm? Nope. Nice job being a fan boy.

Something funny about this quote. It's like you're obsessed with Apple and would get heartbroken if anything negative makes it to the mainstream.

On a side note, I don't think the average viewer, maybe even the average iphone owner would even know what jailbroken is.

Something funny about this quote... smells of troll.

The worm affects users who have jailbroken their iPhones and installed SSH without then changing the default password

IMHO You deserved to get Rick Rolled!

Not only change your password but turn it off until you NEED it on. Leaving it SSH running and not changing your password you might as well walk around with your home address printed on your T-shirt and a caption that reads

"The door is unlocked, I'll be shopping for a few hours, go take what you want"

It is NOT utterly harmless, as this worm has set out to prove. This one was not malicious, but he has released his code so other hackers can easily craft ones that ARE malicious.

When you jailbreak your iPhone, you are rendering all the security measures that Apple has put in place USELESS! There is a reason they have done things the way they have. So, yes, you are free to want those things on your home screen, I can see the benefit. BUT you also must take responsibility for the risk you are putting your phone and data in. I'm sure you have lots of personal information on your phone, maybe banking information etc. So if anything happens to it if your phone gets hacked or infested someday, don't go whining to ANYONE but YOURSELF!

Jailbreaking is like sleeping with whores, with no condoms. You take your chances.

No. It's more like "Here's the key to my door, but I won't tell you where I live".

I doubt this is going to happen to more than a few people.

I'm perfectly content with my iPhone as it is.

I've tried jailbreaking a couple of times. All the half-assed features and ugly workarounds offered by it aren't worth the hit to stability.

I'm sure there are people that (tastelessly) want to make their iPhones look like Windows Vista. I'm sure there are people that want their phone to vibrate like a dildo when typing messages. I'm sure there are people that want to waste resources by running several apps concurrently.

I'm not one of them.

This is one of the first things I recall reading about jailbreaking.

The game of jailbreaking is far deeper than just hitting make it rain.
Jailbreaking is not for the light hearted as there is far more to it than most imagine.
There was no doubt in my mind that the iphone is opened up by jailbreaking but the info is out there to protect the user.

Fail to take the precautions, prepare to be rolled.

Yeah, we'd take you more seriously if you weren't a pirate, and with that Username, you just come accross as a troll.

I have no problem with people who jailbreak their phones who know what they're doing.

You yourself said you changed your password. Great. You're doing something to your phone that you understand.

What I have a problem with is people who post articles encouraging people to jailbreak who probably don't know what their doing. They make it sound like it's super-simple and you don't need to understand what you're doing to do it. Just follow this checklist!

As this proves, that's simply not true. You have to have some understanding of how all this stuff works.

So yes, I've pressed back against the pro-jailbreakers on this site. Not because I care if THEY jailbreak, but because I get frustrated when I see them pushing people into it who probably shouldn't be doing it. Or who should at least be studying it in more depth first.

I know some people are just "anti-jailbreak" and no, I don't get that. But some of the negative posts here are from people like me who are just trying to make people slow down and do this stuff right instead of just rushing into it.

yah i'm a bully - i got regular people jailbroken who never knew of it

i'm bad

For those of you pissing an moaning, this is why Apple continues to disable jailbreaking.

the only people pissing and moaning are iphone apple fanboys who think unvirgin phones are uncool

not hip?

i'm not sure how so - i've seen a lot of fanboys and they sure are anything but

it's what i tell one of my good friends - big apple fanboy - fu steve jobs - fu and i hope that u hurt your smug self u selfish egomaniac bastard

may your children rob u of all your $$$

That is toooooo funnny! :p I hate that song with a passion. And now the worm places Rick Ashly's pic behind it? If that's not a reason to stay inline with an unbroken iPhone --- I don't know what else could.

Apple  ... shame on you... Haha!!:p:p:p:p

This is 100% false.

Did you even read any of the comments? Just jailbreaking does not make you vulnerable to the this worm.

But don't let facts get in the way of your scare tactics.

I was not merely referring to this worm, but also to the FACT that this hacker released his code which will enable future exploits that could be MALICIOUS, and when you jailbreak your phone, you allow it to run unsigned software and are therefore at risk!

FACTS, PERIOD!
