THIS! LOL... so true... The funny part is every year people who get the 1-2 weeks end up getting their phone at launch... the 2-3 weeks end up getting theirs the week after launch or right after launch, etc... I think because so many people buy and then end up cancelling their order for various reasons (change mind, find one in store, find one from a carrier, etc etc etc) and it bumps everyone else up in the queue.
If what you are saying is true then the 2-3 weeks delivery time will more likely become November the 10th. Good thing some people are getting theirs on November the 3rd. If something unexpected happens or doesn't work as advertised/intended I get the chance to cancel my preorder.

Just to clear up the facts - Apple is an American company with their HQ in Cupertino CA a.k.a "Mothership Campus" with a global customer base. The only reason why there is a shell HQ in Ireland is so that Apple can get out of paying the full corporate tax they owe in the US.

Alternatively, putting up the "preparing for despatch" status stops people cancelling their order this evening, when they realise they've just spent a GRAND on a phone.....!

;-)

There are many ostentatious tangible/intangible items out there, purchased by individuals...

As long as mine says "Delivered" sometime by late in the day on November 3rd, I could care less what the status says right now. I feel so unAmerican saying that based on some of these other posts.

Just going on past experience with these. Remember when you place the order through Apple, they don't hit your card. You'd be surprised how many people order stuff they can't pay for and the order gets cancelled. Don't know why it's so common, but I used to work in a job years ago where I dealt with card transactions, and people would order something and then their card would get declined, and we'd send it to sales to contact them and they'd end up saying they thought they'd have the money but don't... or they just ordered it hoping they'd get the money, etc... weird weird weird, but hey, Americans love their debt.... I wouldn't be surprised if as many as 10-20% of pre-orders are cancelled\payment decline\changed mind for whatever reason.

Shouldn't American pre-orders be processed before everyone else?

If I remember, the US is the cheapest place to buy an iPhone when translated to universal currency compared to the rest of the world. If I were Apple I'd ship the US LAST given that the US is the least profitable place to be selling iPhone haha.

But seriously, I think this may be why they do a more global roll out now compared to US only or US and handful they used to do launch day. They realize that it's far more profitable rolling out in other countries where the prices are higher.

Steve Jobs would have let America get their iPhone's first..

Then why did iPhone launch in US\AUS\GER\NTL\JPN first nearly every year? Seems your comment is untrue. AUS always got theirs first. Look at EVERY launch, first photos of the lines came in from Australia.

Mostly because they're nearly a day ahead of us in time... but also because that's the way it's always been.

I wasn't even going to buy but like every year I do. 5-6 weeks, fine with me.

Yeah what's 5 weeks in a 52 week cycle? :-( Sadly about 10% (aka $115) haha.

Really....

Did I miss the j/k or #sarcasm tag?

I had plenty of time to put money aside for the past 3 years. I always pay for my smartphones and other  products in full as I hate installments.
