Can't wait to get mine. First time with a laptop/external monitor setup. Wonder if I'll want a separate keyboard and trackpad rather than the one on my MacBook Pro (as pictured in the article).
I mean...obviously. Go with the ones apple makes. Works the absolute best

What a bunch of spoilt brats who complain about every apple product. ten years ago a 5k monitor for under $1k would be unimaginable. now people are complaining about the bezel and how Apple's moves "effects me professionally".

if you can't get work done with this level of gear you are like a carpenter who blames his tools.
I wish I could time travel and show this to someone 10 years ago and get their reaction vs the reaction here. 10 years ago, people would have flipped out and paid 4 times this happily

I couldn't see much extra value in the new 2016 MBP 15" since I use my laptop 90% of the time closed with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. Maybe I'm not Apples MBP professional target but I was hoping this year for a reason to upgrade my setup. Maybe next year... :-(

this is the first time I will be using a laptop with external monitors instead of a desktop ... was planning on getting two of these but now I'm not really sure anymore

Yea, I remember when my 30" ACD was $3000! I didn't get it until the price came down to something like $2400 or so. I was pleasantly surprised that the 5K monitor would come under $1000. I was expecting it to be $2000 or more so everyone can gripe about the bezel all they want. I'm thrilled I get to keep $1000 that I thought I was going out the door.

Well, actually I'm going to end up spending a lot more on the nMBP than I planned so it all comes out in the wash, but the damage would have been even worse if the 5K cost what I thought it would.

I know it's been answered from Apple but how that states it's confusing.

A 2016 MacPro 13", can it run one of the 5k monitors and a 4k (non-LG, it's the HP Envy one)? As in, can it really be done or just not supported?

I still can't really believe how Apple and LG f*cked us Swiss customers with this display. Removing it from the store just when the sale starts because of a missing power cable that I'd have laying around here by the dozens!
These displays are the main reason I upgraded to this generation MBP and instead of receiving them in the upcoming days, it's probably going to be months :(

I feel a bit bad now, hope I didn't come across as too critical - the main thing about the display, the display itself, is amazing. I also love the fact we can control brightness through the keyboard in clamshell mode and I love the 3 usb-c ports on the back.

There's only really two maybe three things I wish were different:

- Headphone out (to connect to an amp - my biggest gripe)
- Sacrifice camera for thinner top bezel - though I really don't mind it.
- Not sure if this would have been possible, but a HDMI in (for a PS4 PRO at 4K) would have been amazing!

I originally bought this display to 'try out', but right now, I doubt I'll be sending it! ;) It's that good :)

From Apple's specs it sounds like if you're running one 5K display that's all you can get for externals. If you want to run two monitors they need to be 4K max for the 13". Likely a limitation of the iGPU as of course the 15" doesn't have that limit.

Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display at millions of colors and:
  • One display with 5120-by-2880 resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors
  • Up to two displays with 4096-by-2304 resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors

Apple seems to be very pessimistic with their estimates. By the time I saw the AirPods were available for ordering, I reserved a pair and the expected delivery date was already up to January 12th. But yesterday I received an Apple tracking number showing the arrival as next Tuesday, December 27th.

I kind of want one, but to use the bigger screen you have to either give up on the Touch Bar controls (which I am getting used to) or else actually use the MacBook Pro as the keyboard for the 5k display. I guess to do that you'd probably set them side to side. I wonder whether if you put the LG display as low as it can get, if it would be comfortable/possible to do that.

Are others planning to just use a standard Bluetooth keyboard and mouse?

It's not really that - it's more like if you design an office or edit bay that you or clients will be sitting in 8 hours a day, you want to fill it with nice looking things. In the creative field, Image is important.

Ten years ago a 128 GB Micro SD was unimaginable. 128 MB was $150 back then. So what do you wanna say??

Just because this is meant to be in an office its cool to be ugly?
