Any any of your rant has what to do with LG?
His rant was expressing his concern that the Apple executive seems to not give a rats about a coherent mac setup anymore.
This LG monitor screen is fine, the ports are fine, the design is downright ugly.
So this Monitor is all function and no form.
The MBPs on the other hand, prioritise form over function.

The old Apple would ensure that form followed function in a wonderful way. If Apple couldn't be bothered producing its own monitor anymore, the least Ive could have done is help LG make a better design.
This is why long term Apple fans are not happy.

One of the most eloquent sentiments of what many are feeling at the moment!

That's disappointing and mildly inconvenient that they thought to include speakers but not a headphone jack. How very Apple of LG. ;)

I'm totally fine with the design being bare-bones and minimalist. It's a tool for people doing real work, not a piece of furniture. I want the bezel to disappear into the background.

Is the panel itself glossy, or does it have an anti-glare coating? Glossy screens are the worst, in my opinion.

Seriously, what's with the uneven bezels? lol

People complain about Apple being form over function....yet pan this display because of....aesthetics.

I dont think Apple played a huge part in the design though... except the TB port.

It's so... Uninspired. I'm going to hold onto my Cinema Displays as long as I can. I don't do any graphics work that needs 5K, or even 4K.

Hope you enjoy it!!

The set up as you describe is better for your body. Go for it!

Can't wait to get mine. First time with a laptop/external monitor setup. Wonder if I'll want a separate keyboard and trackpad rather than the one on my MacBook Pro (as pictured in the article).
[doublepost=1482539688][/doublepost]I hope Apple release a touchbar keyboard for this very reason

It's great that customers are getting their monitors early.

Kind of makes the MacBook Pro touch bar useless in this setup. I wonder if Apple actually considered how Pro users use their MacBooks.

I still holding to my two 30" 2004 ACD's to dear life.
Love them.
Matte screen, great design and quality.
I would buy in a heartbeat two Apple TB 5K displays if they were available. It's a shame Apple is not making a stand alone option. These LG's display while might be of good quality the design is just plain awful.
I don't get why Apple is abandoning the displays business. Under Steve was all about the ecosystem. Tim seems to be going on the opposite direction. It's a really bad move that might bite them down the road.

Perhaps. Good ergronomics call for the keyboard being directly in front of your main monitor - usually the largest. My main monitor is currently an LG 34" ultrawide, the 5k Lg will be my secondary monitor.

This is what I'm battling with at the minute. I only really ever use my rMBP in clamshell with 2 1080 monitors. But I'm sick of the crappy resolution that 1080 is now. I'm looking into possible just replacing the whole thing with a 5K iMac at some point. I'd just lose the ability to take my computer into uni and out of the house, which I do occasionally. Have to decide what's more important cause I cannot afford a 2016 rMBP and a 4K external monitor. Especially as my 2012 rMBP won't fetch much resale now.

Too bad it's not Apple Branded Display so you could pay an extra $2000, darn, I know there are some of you out there who are upset, man hmm... but couldn't that money go towards the minty Space Gray rMBP (Late 2016) maxing it out, that you just got? Ah, nah cause you wouldn't dare spend the extra money on the actual MacBook Pro specs, but a Space Gray Aluminum Bezel!!! oh hell ya!!! This is NUTS!!! just keep bitching at Apple I guess...

I wish I could time travel and show this to someone 10 years ago and get their reaction vs the reaction here. 10 years ago, people would have flipped out and paid 4 times this happily

Yes, it's a great monitor today... 5 to 10 years ago, you wouldn't be able to drive it at 5k without some SERIOUS coin.

To be fair that since Pros aren't likely using their laptops directly all that often, there's really nothing to hate (or like) about the Touchbar. I'm miffed that I don't have a real ESC key, but 95% of the time, I'm using my MBP as a mobile desktop machine.

That black lg monitor matches any of the millions of cheap black plastic monitors you see filling any office space. Sure, it works but it looks really ugly doing it.

The thing that drew me to apple was the beautiful synergistic design flow between all of the components. It just looked really good and I was willing to spend the extra money because I simply enjoyed how it looked so good together.

Now not so much. Too bad apple forgot what people enjoyed about their products.

If Apple doesn't release a keyboard with touch bar for iMac, this will be a huge mis step in getting people comfortable with using touch bar and liking it as a Apple exclusive feature

It definitely lacks the Apple-esque aesthetics. But it's all that's out there now I guess.

Apple no longer wants to be an iconic brand on a desktop. No glowing Apple, no Apple display... pretty soon you won't know if it's a Mac even.

You are free to tattoo the Apple logo on your forehead if you want other people to know just what a big fan boy you are.

"In the creative field, Image is important." Gimme a break. I work in "the creative field' and if your business depends on the color/size of your bezel or monitor design you have a bigger problem. I'd rather show clients my work with an amazing 5k display and wide-gamut color than crapple cinema display with limited color gamut.

The LG will fit in well with my Eizo and NEC monitors for color critical work.

I guess you should write to LG, Eizo and NEC and complain about their bezels in case Apple decides to go with them in future 5k monitors.

It's not really that - it's more like if you design an office or edit bay that you or clients will be sitting in 8 hours a day, you want to fill it with nice looking things. In the creative field, Image is important.

like we all favor the iMac because it's thin (the same applies here (it would look *more* appealing..)

or perhaps if it's not Apple, we don't really care that much... I see how this game is played :)

I am looking at that pic to find where the guy stashed the Mac mini he connected display to..
