Also, I think all news regarding Safari updates should automatically be ignored until they give us 4K video on YouTube. It’s 2020, Apple!!!

Since Apple is supporting YouTube 4K on the AppleTV this fall, either Google gave in on H.265 or (more likely) Apple gave in and supported WebM. I haven't seen any news on whether this will carry over to macOS, but it would be damn silly if it didn't.

There are some elements to the menu UI’s that look sort of like a Google UI. Not that I’m complaining though as I think it’s a welcome change.

The icons, especially in system preferences, don’t look great. Hopefully, this is an issue with beta 1 and will improve over time. I guess it’s worth remembering, that like everybody else, Apple employees have been working from home or maybe not at all. Certainly, collaboration will have taken a hit.

Not so sure about the start up chime. I used to like it, but have gotten used to it not making sounds. Since I use my Mac at work and arrive a little late, people always hear when I turned on my Mac.
Wait, you boot your Mac every morning? How’s life in the 90’s? I boot my Macs once every couple of months, and just sleep/wake them the rest of the time.

Is screen sharing still a part of Messages? It was always a godsend for family tech support. Since Messages is now Catalyst, I wouldn't be surprised if it was left by the wayside when the old iChat codebase was jettisoned.
I’ve just always brought up spotlight and searched for “screen sharing” - the app is hiding under /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications (at least on Mojave), then you just enter an Apple ID, and if they have screen sharing enabled, they get an alert asking for permission for you to connect. I’ve never had to use Messages for this.

Perhaps someone with the beta could check to see if “Screen Sharing.app” is still, there.

I’m running it, love it! Almost no bugs so far. A few minor annoyances though - reported through feedback, and avast has trouble installing. Other than that. Great clean look, works out of the box, and new features are awesome. Never knew how many trackers MacRumors had

The shadows look on FaceTime and Messages app icons look dopey.
Profound

For who already familiar with Deepin Linux (Chinese-made Linux distributions), this is almost coincidental.

WHY are you installing Avast? Seriously! It's not needed. Unless you send and receive a lot of attachments between Windows users and you want to help them to avoid viruses? Save yourself the CPU cycles and leave that bloat off your machine.

Safari looks awesome! I think Apple really nailed with the UI and features. I know people are saying the icons and new shapes don't look as nice but I love them!

They're not as professional looking, but I like the look none the less.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I saw something about macOS getting support for WebP recently.

-EDIT-
I was thinking of WebP support, not WebM. My bad.
(Thanks wtn!)

Still not sure why my late 2013 iMac won't run this OS with the 1 TB fusion drive. Its specs are better then a mid 2014 model. Yes.. I know I am still running El Capitan. The NVIDIA is a better graphics card then the base mid 2014..

It's not just about specs. Each CPU has different "instruction sets", so your 2013 is likely missing something that Big Sur relies on.

I personally like the look of BS and I immediately loved the change from Mavericks to Yosemite. My only quibble is that it looks like iOS but I'm definitely looking forward to it later this year.

Looks like windows 8 a bit more as Apple dumbs down the apps.
It's really surprising how much Apple seems to have been influenced by what Microsoft's been doing. They've even come around to the idea of building 'Refrigerator-Toasters'. For better or worse, it's almost certain now that Macs with touch input are on the horizon.
