Can you walk into an Apple Store tomorrow and pick one up? Having just built a PC in March I’m due to upgrade my 15” MBP 2013 so I think I’m just gonna get the budget Air since it’ll outperform my iPad Pro and allow me to do some coding and light photo editing.

Was contemplating the new MBP but I feel like with all the performance I get out of my iPad I feel like it’ll be overkill for what I need.

My credit card is waiting for the M iMac refresh! Can’t wait! I can only imagine it bezel free. I wish they would introduce colors just like the playful days of the first iMac. I love my blue 12 Pro Max.

Ordered the base model MBA immediately after the event (I'm in US). The order page still looks like this... Wonder what criteria Apple used to discriminate some customers against other "lucky" guys.

As one of the ‘lucky’ ones 😂 I ordered as soon as they said available now. The event was still going on when I ordered.

Apparently, having the fastest Macs ever available to you does not make for quicker product reviews.
It’s called a press embargo. If they post early then they will be cut off from future apple product releases. Hardly worth it to them to make you happy.

Likely to pick up mine on Saturday at the Apple store. Hope the YouTube reviews have some real use experiences. What I'm seeing so far are some amateurs thinking they can one up a MKBHD - sorry, stop.

Awesome! My MBA M1 arrives tomorrow, super stoked! :p:apple: I wish I had pre-ordered a day earlier, I would have mine today 😞

OK enough of these benchmarks. Let’s start to get some real world results

Right?

But let's be patient. A few more days of people restoring their profiles etc from backup then the brave ones just completely setup from scratch installing migrating their data, plugins for their DAW's of choice, photos and video content and setups/settings for FCPX etc.

December I expect to see a plethora of used Intel machines for sale on grey marketplaces and in refurbished store. Just hoping Apple doesn't gouge there.

If they're still in stock that is. I have a strong feeling these M1 Macs will out sell all previous Macs Apple has made. Glad I pre-ordered.

I pre-ordered the MacBook Pro. And it will be here tomorrow. This is my first MacBook Pro to ever own. I have the MacBook, but I think it’s from 2015. While I’m still learning about Macs, I don’t really know a whole lot about them. I just felt it was time to upgrade, and that’s why I did. The MacBook I have is terribly slow.

it seems that y’all pretty much know what you’re talking about in this thread. Do you think this would’ve been a good investment? Or do you think I made a big mistake? The bottom line is I really use my MacBook to update my iPhone, and use it for the web, messages, etc. But I’m still an amateur. I didn’t go with the air, because the pro had more bells and whistle‘s than the air did. Like the Touch Bar. I’m a quick learner, and don’t mind learning new things. So I’m kind of excited about this purchase.

And before y’all ask, I can’t update the iPhone over the air. For some odd reason, the iPhone will freeze when you click on software update. As if it was corrupted. And this is been from back up, to back up, to back up, for a couple of years now. I don’t know why it does it. On a fresh install, I can get to the software update screen no problem. But not on my back up I have now. Anyway, that’s why I update my iPhone through my MacBook.

Next year for me.
Not fast enough to justify cost.
16GB ram Max? You got to be kidding me?
still don't like graphics built into the processor.
What if graphics burns out? Whole M1 bad? Fixable ? Maybe not. Throw away MAC

I need to keep in mind I'm in lock down central for the next month, so, I might not even be able to check it out at the store.

No Apple product is a "good investment" [sic]. It's an expense. It depreciates the moment you sign for the delivery.

If you want a good investment, buy AAPL or Class B shares of Berkshire-Hathaway or maybe some oceanfront real estate in a nice sunny beach community.

Whether or not it's a good value is also user specific. The M1 MacBook Air appears to have a fine performance-to-watt stat line and superb battery life. However for me, I don't need 10+ hours of battery life. I only use my notebook computer for 90 minutes on average a few times a week. A ghetto $700 Windows ultrabook does pretty much everything I need it to do.

I'd rather wait 2-3 years and buy whatever M-series powered Mac mini is available at the time to replace my current Mac mini 2018. But I would get little from the M1 MacBook Air.

If M1 can run Parallel Desktop 16, I will buy when available in Taiwan
You won't be able to run the Intel version of Parallels, or at least no Intel-based VMs such as x86 Windows (Rosetta does not support running hypervisors), and will only be able to run ARM-based VMs in the ARM version that Parallels are currently working on.

"Not fast enough to justify cost" ? What??? You do realise that this is a huge improvement in performance/$, don't you? You're getting a machine (e.g. the M1 MBA) that probably equals the entry-level MBP16 (with AMD 5300M GPU) for many tasks, for less than half the price.

There isn't a better deal if you want to buy a Mac, and it will almost certainly compete against 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake laptops at less cost.

Why is 16GB a problem? - what is your usage? These replace the entry-level machines, and 16GB is a perfectly reasonable limit for these machines.

GPUs built into the SoC are the future for all but high-end workstations and gaming rigs, so get used to it. Why would the graphics "burn out"? That would mean something catastrophic has happened to your computer, and yes, it would require replacing the whole logic board - but the same applies to soldered-on RAM, SSD failure (in some models), and many other system failures.

Where's the reference for the part "will only be able to run ARM-based VMs in the ARM version that Parallels are currently working on." ??

This is what Parallels said - https://www.parallels.com/blogs/parallels-desktop-apple-silicon-mac/ doesn't support your claim at all
