Actually I agree with the previous poster - there should be a Mac as well as the Mac Pro. It would cost me around £3700 to get a Mac Pro with the spec I want. That's about £1700 more than I'm willing to spend. The Mini doesn't cut it and the iMac is an all in one that I will never buy
.

What is it that the "Mini" will not do? Not what hardware is it missing but what will it not do? The high end Mini had a quad core i7 and is SSD based. The HD4000 GPU could be better but I can run multiple 1080p video in the time line on FCPX.

Currently about the best desktop Apple has is the MacBook Pro Retina with a thunderbolt display. I think the Retina MBP is the desktop you've been looking for, just close the lid and plug in a big monitor

I agree with you. In fact, I started my studio with a 17" MBP and a Cinema Display, and then added a quad core i7 Mini Server a couple of years ago as I could afford it. I do Lightwave 3D modeling, animation and rendering at 1080p, as well as a lot of Premiere and After Effects work. I know I could get faster render times with "better" gear but I work with what I have, which now will soon include a nice nMP to speed a lot of stuff up.

Too bad the base model is outperformed by desktops costing under a grand. And don't tell me that workstation graphics cards make a difference for the majority of people including pros. They don't. The d300's and d500's are both slower than a mid range gtx560 from last generation.

Not to mention dell and HP have better workstations for less money.

Really? There is nothing under $1k scoring higher than the old MacPro on any of the Cinebench scores (The number one system is a Windows 8 machine with more than $5k in just CPUs). So umm yeah. I know you have no basis for your claim. So, I won't even ask.

The Verge is always (after Steve Jobs dead) bashing everything Apple introduce. What is going on with them? Nothing in the design remarkable??? SERIOUSLY? did they compared the Mac Pro 2012 with it? HELLO?

Will it blend?

Guess what? then you're not European. Because this is what real Europeans use!

I live in New Zealand and I see coma/fullstop exchanges happen randomly. There are a lot of different European people who live here so some people do it and some don't. its a bit weird to see sometimes.

But it doesn't make grammatical or mathematical sense. A full stop (a.k.a. period) indicates decimals in maths. In literature, it indicates a stop, or the end of a sentence. A comma indicates that there's more to read.

Who knows. Wikipedia seems to indicate it was something to do with full stops already being used in Roman numerals (for fractions) but I don't really get that.

Logically however I don't really see why using '.' (stop) is any better than ',' (comma) since both are true. The integer portion is finished but the number still have more to go.

Mathematically I imagine the usage is entirely culturally specific. I presume they use a comma to separate integers and decimal portions everywhere not just in price.

I agree, it's confusing. And it's such a minor thing that could potentially cause serious problems and misunderstandings. I know Americans think their system makes more sense and Europeans think their way makes more sense. But in a world with increasingly more international business relations, this is very inconvenient. But one side would have to give. And since that's never going to happen, things will unfortunately stay like this.

The Mac Pro is being released just in time to have a nice impact on next quarter earnings. Releasing most stuff all at once causes gigantic fluctuations in quarterly reports, providing fodder for the media. Having record earnings during the current quarter, followed by significantly lower earnings next quarter, would provide definite proof to the media that Apple is failing and going out of business.

Apple needs to make a full-size wireless keyboard, which not only would look great with the minimalist nature of the new Mac Pro, but would also satisfy a lot of other people too.

The lack of this option is completely baffling.

is there a link to the video they were using to demo the 4k screen?

Without the case on, it kind of looks like the back of Darth Vader's head when he doesn't have his helmet on.

Well based on easy it slips on and off I would expect third party vanity colors to pop up

Why not just release in in Feb?

I mean there is no need to release this before Christmas and then delay shipping until Feb.

This is a professional product, not something someone is going to get under their Christmas tree, except for some over privileged snobs that can't update their Facebook status or tweet on anything less then a $3000 computer.

Considering Apple has their Dev conferences in the early part of the year they should have just released it then when they had their stock beefed up.

Another confusing rush to release a product that is simply not available.

I see they've taken a cue from the Cinema displays and made the Mac Pro reflective as hell.

Agreed. The only reason I could see to release it now is to start booking the revenue for the year and Q4. But this is such a niche product, how much can it really add to Apple's bottom line?
