Wow, can't believe a multi-thousand dollar computer was simply left on a doorstep.

(A yearly seasonal surge in doorstep package thefts has been all over the local news recently.)

I'm most certain it did not happen that way.
Apple is one of those companies that requires signature upon delivery for higher value items, or requires you to fill out a package release form taped to your door.

More than likely this person signed for it, set it down, and took a picture. Or, they signed the release form (a gutsy move, I couldn't even do that for my iPhone ;))

I've seen UPS leave packages requiring signatures more than once, so I know it does happen. Hopefully Apple no longer uses UPS for this very reason.

Congrats!

I'm hoping for some optimizations for logic audio before being interested (oh, if .au could leverage GPU power). looks great for vid people, though.

Congratulations, Tom! Have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy setting up that new Mac Pro. I always thought that the setup of the new machine over the first few hours was the most fun...

Wow - some people are going to have a happy christmas for sure! I wasn't aware that they were going to arrive this soon.

Some people's kids are not going to see much of their dad this Christmas. ;)

[EDIT: aw someone beat me to it with spouses . . .]

I'm not so sure.. additional processor cores, ram, and faster SSD storage are all factors that will influence the speed of those development tools, especially if you are working in Windows/OSX at the same time (which I have to do everyday) It's overkill for sure, but it would most certainly be faster.
The IDEs themselves are going to be unaffected. High RAM levels can help in very complex projects by permitting more active compilers, as can a higher core count. In projects with few compilers, high core count and high RAM count won't really help. You'll want faster cores for that, and most Mac Pro configs will lose out to an an i5 there. (As will other workstations)

Typically in a more individually developed app, the difference is going to be rather irrelevant.

SSD won't help since your source files will be cached to RAM.

One could easily argue an iMac + a Windows machine would have been cheaper, though.

it all depends what he's coming from.

but the work he's doing wont' touch those GPU's. which means he could have gotten an equal performance boost out of a different workstation / Computer that doesn't make you buy 2x workstations GPU's.

he "overpaid" for what he needs.

but thats irrelevant. he wants this. He bought this. He's entitled to it

welcome to UPS.

Ordered $3k worth of computer parts a couple weeks ago. showed up while I was on the can.

within 30 seconds of quickly wiping, pulling up my pants and running to the door, I saw the UPS truck drive away with 3 boxes just left on my doorstep.

I actually LOVE the look of this machine -- BUT -- you have GOT TO READ THIS ONE . . .

My teenage son says at first glance it looks like a BLACK TOILET FOR A RICH PERSON. So, I laugh and think he is just being a typical teenage idiot for the time being.

But wait, look closely at the box with that in mind. The depth of the box makes it kind of look like . . . Yes, you guessed it.

HAD TO LAUGH then. ;-)

Anyone else NOT have next day shipping option?

Interesting - when I ordered mine, only standard shipping was available...

Anyone else?

Can I get a Mac Pro with just one graphics card instead of dual?
No? But I don't think Logic Pro X needs the extra graphics card ;)

I just want an excuse to replace my Mac Mini...

I'm wondering if someone more knowledgeable might clarify this but I was under the impression Logic Pro could potentially be able to benefit in the future from dual graphics cards if Apple were to fully support OpenCL?

Not sure if this is true or possible, but if it is, would definitely give good reason to get a Mac Pro for Logic Pro users!

I wouldn't be surprised if in the future reverbs and delays and DSP stuff wouldn't go OpenCL, I had a 2008 Mac Pro 8 core that I never even came close to pegging out but I purchased a new one, I do plan on getting heavily into video and vfx but I could see things working well in logic running lots of plugins

If you buy this in the uk. The 2999 without tax would be 4000 dollars with tax if you bought it in the us.
