Very much non rich pro here. This is a scary purchase, but I'm starting to land some 3D animation gigs that are taxing my current hardware to the point where this new rig should pay for itself in short order.

I love that box! Oh I'd be so happy to have that arrive at my doorstep. I don't need it, but it's oh so yummy!

I'm dying to get a new one now, but things are slow this quarter and I don't need it yet. You can be sure I will get one as soon as I can. I'm not rich.

Trying to understand why anyone would opt for the $2999 configuration when a faster iMac with a screen can be had for about $100 less. Sure it looks cool, but cool isn't going to get your work done. You really need to push up the cores and ram and then the price goes through the roof.

What config are you looking at that's "faster"? The base Pro has dual graphics, Xeon processor, PCIe flash, and 1866MHz RAM that the iMac doesn't, even when you upgrade it.

Wow can't believe they would just leave a $2000 + package on your doorstep. I would complain :D

Don't complain. Just call them up and say it never arrived. Then when they say it did, ask them to show your signature. They're taking the risk when they ship it no signature required. OR, sometimes the delivery company goes ahead and takes the risk even if signature is required. I've had FedEx drop off a 4k laptop back in the day at the front door of my apartment! Genius.

"They" is likely the driver, not the company. Especially this time if years drivers are pushed to their limits to deliver your precious goods on time.

Losing a big ticket item like this due to faikure to get a signature can lose the driver his/ her job. And all around the holidays.

I'm not saying condone the behavior. In fact, you might even call in and complain. But claim you never got it (when you did) is pretty heartless, if you ask me.

I have so many packages delivered to my house for business I am on a first name basis with Fedex and UPS. And I'm talking multi mac pro price points. My neighborhood is safe and I'm on a Cul De Sac. I've literally come home and send 10k plus audio equipment sitting in front of my drive way, and not in this non-descript plain vanilla box, but the name Crown or JBL posted right on the boxes. I would not leave it if I couldn't trust my area and neither would UPS/FedEx.

That's a risk your UPS guy is willing to take. Obviously it happens (as is evidenced by people mentioning in this thread). But the fact remains, it IS their responsibility if a signature is required and one is not gotten.

Boo! Go Devils!! No pity for the kitty... :)

I laughed so hard when I read this.

You made my day! :D

Congrats Tom for the new machine, I hope it serves you well and makes your life with iOS development easier and more productive!

Why do people keep calling it the MacPro? It's a Mac Pro.

I will pay to see a drone deliver one of these.

I could never justify buying one ( probably only used a fracture of its horsepower) - but damn i want one :(

Well, if you bought one now, you'll probably be able to keep it a lot longer than a normal model since it's got power to spare and eventually you'll use most of it 10 years down the road and in the mean time, everything you do will happen much faster. :)

More than heartless, it's criminal (felony level). Most folks spending 3k+ on a computer tend to be more ethical than your average Joe. Being a criminal, dishonest person never pays in the long run (on so many levels). Senseless also comes to mind, as you'd never be able to use it. Also, a driver in a nice neighborhood follows different rules than he would at an apt complex in a low-income area.

Goodie, goodie. All I want now (for Christmas) is detailed user's review, experience, impressions with lots of detailed photos! For all non-pro-mere-mortals :). Geee, I wish they would make new mini looking little bit as this beast!

If someone left on on MY doorstep I would not complain.

I am still happy with my 2009 MP. It's still doing everything I want at a speed that is useable.

was the package really delivered at the door or did he take the picture just to show the delivery ?

Fedex/UPS guys can be lousy sometimes

last Xmas, i ordered a very expensive zoom lens for my DSLR

the guy knew that i was home, lights were on, and from the outside one could see the TV blinking

instead of ringing to my door, he opened my fence door and dropped the parcel just on the ground behind my fence

anyone walking in front of my house could have seen it and stolen it

Non-rich pro here. Mine will be used almost exclusively for post production sound. It will be the machine on which I make my living day in and day out.

That is what it was made for! Enjoy it and I hope it speeds up your projects. Just curious. What is post production sound. As someone who tinkers with garage band in my rare spare time that is way above anything I've ever heard of.

Is anyone else bothered that a package this valuable is simply left at someone's front door? I would be paranoid to high hell if I got something like this while I was out, knowing it was just sitting there for anyone to run off with...
