Is there an eye doctor in the house?

The myopia on display here is simply astounding.

The target audience of this ad, which should be blindingly obvious from the ad copy, is Verizon customers. If you can't temporarily put yourself in the place of a Verizon customer, why bother opining on the efficacy of this ad? Just to prove what a dumbass you are? If so, you should feel proud.

And even forgetting Verizon customers for a moment, just think of what this ad accomplishes for Apple: it establishes that millions of people have been waiting for the iPhone, which implies that Apple is the super-premium brand, high above all other Verizon brands including Android and RIM, and well worth waiting for.

It's a good ad, and one that Apple fans should feel good about. Especially considering the lame ads Verizon did for the Droid, etc. I suspect Apple had a hand in creating it.

Why would at&t have needed to advertise the iPhone before now?

It's not that they needed to do it they just weren't allowed. I remember reading an article that part of the deal between Apple and AT&T was that Apple would handle the advertising.

It made me pay attention through the whole thing, and it was clear what it was for. So that's a good ad, in my book.

yup, absolutely. So much so that I'd be a little pissed if I were another handset maker on Verizon.

Looks to me like Apple said they'd spend the money and since at&t didn't need to spend money, they chose not to.

If I were at&t I'd consider that a great deal.

That doesn't mean they're not allowed. If someone takes you out to dinner and offers to treat you I don't think you'd say you "weren't allowed" to buy dinner. You'd say that your friend treated you.

Just saw it watching American idol

While watching American Idol, apple does a lot of apple commercials

Like that cold play commercial on may 2008

or many iPod touch and iPhone commercials! :D

and it's in HD!

It's not the carrier choice... I guess just the concept of people's lives being on hold for 4 years for the chance to have this cell phone.

If your life was on hold waiting for this phone then that is sad. There have been a fair handful of decent phones from verizon over the years.

Forget the TV ads. Check out the Verizon website.

Look! They have 3 kinds of phones!

:D Boy, how'd you like to be a Blackberry, Android, or Windows phone manufacturer right now? That's gotta make you feel great to see that on their main page.

And NOW, THE MOMENT YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR... unless of course you live in a country where phones aren't locked, and you've been given the choice of switching carriers with your iPhone all along.

Sometimes the US is just... sad.

Oh! Oh!

Tell us the story about how we pay for incoming text messages too. I love hearing that one.

Then the voiceover: "To our millions of customers who never stopped believing this day would come: Thank you."... "iPhone 4, Verizon, It Begins, 2.10.11, Rule the Air."

I see Verizon used the edited script in their commercial!

The original went something like this... or so I heard...

"To our millions of customers who left us to go to ATT for the iPhone and never stopped believing the idiocy of Verizon for not inking a deal with Apple, that this day would ever come: Please come back! Pleeeaaassseee! Thank you."... "iPhone 4 is what you start with because the idiots at Verizon failed to be able to offer the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS. It Begins, 2.10.11, Ruled by idiots who Rule the Air."

Remember, Verizon's slogan 'Rule the Air' can have a sinister, darker hidden meaning.

But to all those Verizonites wanting an iPhone on Verizon... Congrats!

Still no price on "data pak."

Just imagine the spot will they run in 6 months when the iPhone 5 comes out with dual core processor and LTE.

"This is the moment you've waited for -- your new VZW iPhone 4 is obsolete and you now have only 75% of your contract yet to run."

Heh. Yeah, well, they better get used to it, eh? Their walled garden (Verizon) just had the main gate blown off. It's a brand new ball game.

Also, notice how this ad is seemingly aimed at their current customers? An interesting approach that makes total sense. I suspect they really will sell mostly to current customers for the first few months. If someone really really wanted an iPhone before now and didn't love Verizon they probably already have one.

True, they seemed like they targeted their current customers and letting them know that the wait is over pretty much. Kinda like thanks for hanging in there and waiting. Time is almost up:)

Hearts and Minds

Google can kiss Androidistan goodbye. Android did well at Verizon because iPhone wasn't there. It was Android's special protected enclave. Their safe refuge from the real world.

Android sales are far behind iPhone at AT&T, and the same thing will happen at Verizon. Of course there will always be the hard core fanatical Fandroids. But for every militant freetard there are 1000 non-geeks who will dump their Droids and Flatulates, or whatever theyr'e called, for iPhone.
