In my opinion it is about time that Apple will announce/release new products (not only software and bla bla). We are half year in 2014 and Apple has released ****.

" so far this year the company has simply released a cheaper version of the iPhone 5c in select markets, marginally faster MacBook Airs, and the 2012 fourth-generation iPad at a lower price."

Common Apple, you can do better.

We are waiting for a major release!

I'm with you in the 'X = ex' rather than 'X = ten' bit; it was always a Unix-y X, no matter what Steve said. 'Oh es ten ten point ten'? 'Oh es ten ten point ten point ten' in a year's time?

But... you're not suggesting that OS X 10.10 be named OS X 11, are you? We'll have to disagree on that one.

I'd be happy for OS X 10.10 to become simply 'oh es ex ten'.

Why is this even a debate? The company pronounces it "Oh Es Ten", therefore it is.

When Mac OS X first appeared everyone you met in the UK said 'OS Ex'. This included senior staff from resellers, who regularly met with Cupertino staff and presumably picked up the pronunciation from them. It simply *was* a Unix/NeXT 'ex'. The move from 'ex' to 'ten' was later revisionism. I believe even the Blessed Jobs struggled on occasion to say 'ten' rather than 'ex'.

But... I didn't realise it was a debate, and I'm not at all fussed as to how people choose to say it. Enjoy your ten ten point ten!

I actually like pronouncing it OH ES EX. I recall when I was young pronouncing Final Fantasy 10 as Final Fantasy X. To me, X can be very symbolic. It means a crossroad. In math, X is an unknown variable. X is the name of an unknown planet.

El Capitain is out

The cannot use El Capitain, since that code name has been used by Cisco for their UCS Manager code.

I'm not a fan of those landmark names either. It's too California-centric, too USA-centric. And some of these names could be hard to pronounce correctly if you don't speak english. Hopefully they'll stay with single-word names.

Here's a little hint . . . looking back-back, wayyy-back there's a little "Designed by Apple in California" message on product boxes. I have no problem with what Apple calls its stuff -- as long as it remains insanely great!

Isn't 10.9 ALREADY pretty flat looking? And they're making 10.10 flatter? Hmm... What's the point to have insane graphics capabilities if the OS doesn't care?

I will enjoy my correct pronunciation. ;)

It doesn't sound weird if you say it out. "Today we will be introducing Oh Es Ten, Ten Dot Ten, our latest Mac operating system." After that they'll probably only call it by it's California name.

It's such a nonissue though... To the general public it's OS X or OS X __________. Only us geeks use numbers.

Many people are just calling 10.9 just "Mavericks" anyway. I here have chosen to go with OH ES TEN because of the roman numeral and the previous OS was OS 9. Apple even wrote the text to speech in OS X to say it as OH ES TEN... and they always refer to it as OH ES TEN in the keynotes, etc.

I have the right to justify that as anyone has the right to justify calling it OH ES EX. Because neXt.. Unix, Linux all having X'es in their names or whatever reason you want to give. Like vague assertions that some people at Cupertino say it that way.

Yeah, many people don't care about the particular OS revision number. So really most of the time it's just Mavericks or OS TEN MAVERICKS. Or if you are one of those who insist on using OH ES EX. OS EX MAVERICKS.

The new one would be OS TEN\EX YOSEMITE.

Then if someone asks for the particular revision number you can tell them 10.9.4 or 10.10.1 or whatever.

I don't go around correcting people any more because people get quite indignant if you challenge them on how they pronounce things. People wonder why it's a debate but then people do take this stuff VERY personally and to heart.

So, go ahead and say it however you want. You can even say it as OOH-SEX if you wanted. It's still the same OS either way. :)

Live-stream for Windows users?

Is there any possibility for people with hardware other than Apple's to watch the live stream on Monday? For example Windows + Safari browser?

Really excited to see in which way they decide to break Mail this time around, or fail to improve the clunky Calendar and Contacts apps that nobody ever needs to use. Somewhat sad when webapps easily outshine these old stalwarts of the desktop. There's always hope that this release is not just about making things "flatter."

Not that I'm in any way against you watching it, but it is, after all, an Apple developer conference, and you have to have a Mac to be able to compile Mac/iOS apps... Good luck with your quest.

Dude. So he wants to watch it first before deciding if he is becoming one of us or not ?

Did they trademark it?

Contacts is probably one of the most widely used applications due to its tight integration with the iPhone contacts app.

Funny, I add contacts on my iPhone because I never have a good reason to edit them while I am on the computer.

Didn't they use all of them? I liked sea lion though.

Nope. They never used OS X Tabby or OS X Kitty.

>_>
