Still think when this thing ends up actually being released, it’s just going to be a HomePod stand you connect an iPad to.
If the screen is actually built-in and not removable… That’s basically just a small iMac. Or a significantly under utilized stationary iPad.
It’ll be built-in, because otherwise it’s not family-compatible. You don’t want to be dependent on whether some family member just happened to take the screen to their room.

No. If an ipad magnets on like the smart keyboard, it attaches to a wall, and it costs under $200, maybe.

Colour me sceptical but who know what a funBot might turn out to be. A prehensile neck. A “head” that swivels to “look” around.

Linked to Vision Pro. So it can be a Presence thing. You call and embody the robot meaning you can call people who don’t have it and look around the room.

The arm may be robotic, but it is hardly a robot if that's all it has relating to robotic like movement.

Apple is losing its focus on what customers want
I don't think so.

More appropriate might be to say technophiles who inhabit tech site forums are or have lost touch with tech and computer needs of the average consumer.

Tech sites are greats places for enthusiasts, professionals, etc. to gather and exchange ideas, but they do not reflect consumers or even enterprise customers who comprise the vast majority of the market.

I don’t even want to think about the price. Whatever people think it is now, it will be x2 by time it’s released. Lol

HomePod with a screen. Stop calling it a robot to try to make it sound cool. It's interesting, not cool.
Sure, but Apple doesn't make it's prices based on value but on what it expects it can get away with in a price range. See 5g modems in different iPad models, RAM/SSD upgrades,...

Would this be Apple's first product with motorized parts? Other than the optical drive trays made by drive makers they integrated, I can't think of anything else.
There were old devices with magnetic hard drives (like most iPods), but those motors came already installed by third party manufacturers. But there were Apple printers, scanners, magnetic disk drices, a tape drive and, most recently, the lens alignement system in the vision pro.

And you probably forgot about cooling fans.

I don't think at $1000 this is a device that the average consumer wants.

If someone wants to make a Facetime call or control their smart home why wouldn't they just use their phone or their ipad?

There might be a market if it was cheaper but this has that Vision Pro thing. Too little utility, too large a price tag.

All iPads are substantially underutilized :)

In the simplest of terms, it's a device desgined to get people to subscribe to Apple services. That's the only segment within Apple that's actually growing by a meaningful amount each year and with the highest of margins.
Services has the greatest return on investment. And depending how it‘s reported is the easiest numbers to fudge.

Maybe it’ll be called the iHandy and will be Apple’s first foray into sex toys, but instead of learning to do it the way you like it, it’ll just come with a standard set of six underwhelming Apple presets.
LOL - I was about to ask if the robot arm might have a...grip. You could put a wig on it and "pick it up" at the Genius Bar.
