I’m torn. I can’t decide if it’s worth the upgrade. I wanted the always on display for a long time but I also like that my Series 4 can only really be seen by me when I lift my arm.

I think if there was space gray instead of midnight I’d be sold. The blue hue from midnight wouldn’t go with a lot of my straps.
can't you simply deactivate the always on display? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210428

Disappointed with apple this year! ESP with the iPad mini 6. Returned it back.
I wouldn’t get the first generation new watch face, if it has the same internals as last year, next year they will say Apple Watch 8 is now “x2,x3 times faster” no sh*t, complete sell out. Always lagging behind in its own competition.

S4 here in the rose gold.. will never give it up! In a few years maybe.. I need a wobble free mini first :)
In saying that I don’t get the comments around the appearance being bad.. it looks exactly the same as the 4 gens.. which is a beautiful watch imo

Agreed. Pretty incremental year over year, but it adds up to enough over series 4
Aye, upgrading from a S4 (that's performed admirably despite a cracked screen) will be a significant improvement. I'll jump on in like half a year where you can get entry-level models for $30+ off, since it's been pretty consistent recently with Apple's cheapest products. I was tempted to even get the red S6 just because it was $329 virtually all the time.

I really don't get the people who complain about this. Do a solid for the environment and you wallet and don't complain that you don't have to spend your money on a new watch and phone every year people :p

Probably - but the rounded edges are giving it some sort of magnification effect.

I had a Citizen dive watch with a really thick domed crystal that did this. Maybe the Apple guys are finally getting old enough to need reading glasses and that’s why this design came about 😁

I’ve bought the series 4 and 6. Def considering getting it and Hoping that next year’s model gets either temperature sensor or a blood pressure sensor

ngl, these do not look good. I need to get one since the screen on my S3 is cracked, maybe it's just the crappy choice of band and screen content.

What will be interesting to learn is whether the larger display can be interacted with at the very edges, or if there's still effectively a bezel, but one formed by a 'no-touch area'.

For example, if you can see interface elements at the extreme edge but touching there has no effect, then that's likely a design-fail – perhaps a consequence of having to cram a larger display into the 'old' design case with tweaked crystal contours.

I think Apple needs to pause it’s hardware development for a year or 2 and start pumping some more dollars into software.

iOS hasn’t really changed much since 7. It’s still a small-screened OS stretched over a big screen. This so why we still have reachability as a sticking plaster. It needs redesign info from the ground up for 6” screens and one-handed use.

WatchOS does the job but the app menu is a mess. The A-Z is cumbersome and the flower arrangement unweidldy. This needs a bit of a redesign too.

iPadOS is still iOS pretending to be a desktop. Why not just rebuild it for the way users actually interact with the device? AND ADD IN MULTI USER ACCOUNTS.

TVOS hasn’t gone anywhere for a while and I guess it’s a hard place to innovate. But then the menu on my Xbox is lightning quick and never gets in the way. Something more akin to that might be preferential. I’d also like to see more made of Apple Arcade with a box sold with a controller.

Could not agree with you more. Will never happen, but it should.

Can someone photoshop a leather band on the AW. The narrowness of this band in these pics make it look…. Weird and awkward.

i’m in the same boat. i have a series 4 and the glass is a bit scratched after 3 years so looking to upgrade. its funny because i bought the 1 and then the 2 but not the 3 because it was not a big upgrade over the the 2 (mainly cellular, which i did not need since i have my iphone with me 363 days each year). i got the 4 since it was the big design-change/upgrade year and i felt the 5 would be a minor upgrade in comparison, but in actuality the 5, 6 and 7 have all been pretty minor with 7 having the design change but not much else this time. you kinda gotta add them up to get a big upgrade.

Agreed. I followed a similar path except I also had the 3 (was quite excited about cellular use when doing long runs). But after the 4 I was trying to slow down how often I was upgrading. The always on display on the 5 was damn tempting though. And then with the 6 release my 4 was still working so well and figured we’d have a redesign coming soon so waited again.

Maybe it’s the angle but that doesn’t look great. Screen is too bulbous looking compared to the band. Kinda cartoony.
I think there is something really weird with that photo - the angle and maybe also something to do with the lens used and/or the distance from which it was taken? (I’m not a photographer.) I agree that it looks really bulbous, hopefully way more so than in real life, but also look at the straps - the top one looks really thin relative to the body whereas the bottom one looks closer to normal. Something really seems to be messing with the perspective in these photos.

I definitely need to see this in person before upgrading.

well obviously you can turn off the always on display when you want privacy, and the 7 has many new features over the 4 and gets you a fresh battery.

The display shown in these photos looks like it's either tinted or they're using a blue filter? I definitely does not look good.

I wish Apple could show us the AW7 first. All of what I see here looks sort of.. raggedy?

I'm upgrading my phone when the notch is gone and getting a watch when it has the same squared edge design as the iPhone 13. The new watch design that was originally leaked but didn't get released. And I want it in ceramic. Ceramic is gorgeous.
