I do wonder what’s involved to reduce the bezel size. Does it require new OLED and complex engineering or is it simply less black paint to reveal more of the display below?

It almost seems like it could be something in Apple’s bag of tricks.
They knowingly start with thick bezels in series one, knowing they can shave off a millimetre or two as a ’feature’ in subsequent years.
One can accuse Apple of many things, but using a more expensive bigger screen and hide a part of it, so they can “magically” reveal it over multiple Watch generations, is not one of them.

The screens in earlier Watch generations have 100% been chosen as compromise of price and performance. Chances are that Watch 7 screens weren’t even available when AW3 was released.

I think Apple needs to pause it’s hardware development for a year or 2 and start pumping some more dollars into software.

iOS hasn’t really changed much since 7. It’s still a small-screened OS stretched over a big screen. This so why we still have reachability as a sticking plaster. It needs redesign info from the ground up for 6” screens and one-handed use.

WatchOS does the job but the app menu is a mess. The A-Z is cumbersome and the flower arrangement unweidldy. This needs a bit of a redesign too.

iPadOS is still iOS pretending to be a desktop. Why not just rebuild it for the way users actually interact with the device? AND ADD IN MULTI USER ACCOUNTS.

TVOS hasn’t gone anywhere for a while and I guess it’s a hard place to innovate. But then the menu on my Xbox is lightning quick and never gets in the way. Something more akin to that might be preferential. I’d also like to see more made of Apple Arcade with a box sold with a controller.
In this vein, windows 10 is not that much different than windows xp. As far as multiple user accounts, I’m guessing that brings a lot of complexity to the overall underpinnings. Maybe that’s why apple hasn’t added it yet.

yeah there is nooo way they could fit that keyboard at least on the newer 44mm watches /S

can't wait.... so glad old bands would work on the 7.... another " girly - metrosexual " watch for me ;-)

I’d like to see it with a plain band. Something about these photos makes it look more bubbly than the Series 6.
My wife just got a 6, and I like it a lot.
The 7 bezels look too thin with how they are curved, but it could just be that busy band in the photos.

I’m hoping the 7’s release will knock down the price of the 6 about $75 and I’ll grab a 6 when that happens

My wife smashed the glass on 2 AW4's without even knowing it - but it was on Apple Care so it was "cheap" to get fixed. But the very helpful staff at Apple said "it rarely happens with the SS case". So we upgraded to SS AW4 and it has not happened since.

So I think best thing you can do if not going the AW7 route - get another AW with SS case.

I've only ever had SS (big reason at times because of the sapphire crystal for the glass), but my wife has had a few aluminum + glass models and my son recently aluminum + glass, and boy is it disappointing to see the regular glass which can scratch relatively easily. My SS models have taken a beating over the years but the glass has always been immaculate.

Saving money by keeping my steel s6. The larger display sure looks stellar.
This is like the s5, same CPU as the 4.
looking forward to next years model with new sensors and chip.
getting the steel instead of the aluminum was a good decision

You're never going to get this, at least not until Apple can figure out how selling you one device instead of 2 will make them the same amount of money. I agree about iOS, but the truth of the matter is that iPads still sell like hotcakes so there isn't even that much motivation for Apple to improve iOS.

I remember steel series 5 being $500 at Best Buy last year. I’d jump on a SS6 instead of an ALU7

It would be truly beautiful, but you’re correct they’re never going to want to lose out on their fat sales each year with a new generation.
their software has been utter trash recently and that deserves more flak and attention than it gets.
keyboard not coming up, photos being deleted, and iPads screen being 1.2x and cutting off all edges. Ugh. What nonsense.

Looks kind of weird. The width of the bands compared to the watch look strange and unappealing to me. I was seriously considering getting an Apple Watch, but I will definitely wait to see it in person before I purchase.
surely you have seen apple watches before?

There’s much I like about my aging 4 — Auto sleep, the highly accurate step counter, heart rate monitoring. But God, I hate the battery life. The new one? Meh. No increase. Mine’s 3 years old and barely lasts 10 hours now. Do it again, or switch, that’s my question.
Try battery service from apple

iOS has been that way for years, freezing apps that need to be force closed, animation issues, bugs, etc. Heck I'm even seeing it on my new 13 pro max. My wife's 13 pro stopped responding to touch!! I guess this is a known issue, normally I'd be surprised but Apples quality control on their software has been slipping for some time.

Same hassles on my S6 with the screen freezing, ECG not animating etc etc. doesnt matter if you have the latest and greatest hardware If the software is a dump

I was actually surprised that a year of using a Fold 2 I can't remember having a single issue with the software. I know that's not the norm, but it was still nice to have.
