Like title said. I scratched the screen on my 6S+ and I have no idea how it happened! I'm always very careful with my phones and never ever had any scratches on any of my previous iPhones-never. This is the very first time. Never used any screen protector either, because phone goes from dedicated pocket (never anything in the pocket with the phone) to the table or book shelf where I charge it. Thats pretty much it. I have no idea where this scratch came from, but this must be the worst glass material of all iPhones ever made, since I use it exactly the same manner as all my previous phones and never ever had any scratches before!!! "The most durable glass we've created so far" like apple said during presentation???? Definitely not.

So for you folks out there who's torn in between using the screen protector or not, I guess my suggestion will be to use it, due to the fact that it scratches so easily. Makes me feel like it's made of cheap plastic rather than a durable glass, glass should not scratch in jeans pocket right? Well, I know it's not a plastic but if I knew it's gonna scratch that easily out of nowhere, I would definitely have had put screen protector.

Yeah, I think it's the coating...but it doesn't make it any different, it still looks like a scratch on the screen, coating or not.
Unfortunately it takes very force from a piece of dirt or grit to scratch the coating. Just it rubbing against the screen when you take the phone out of your pocket would be enough.

I would get a screen protector. I bought a glass one but it was terrible with oil. So I switched to the traditional film ones. Works great. No oil.

Strange. Sorry to hear about this. I've never used a screen protector on any of my phones and I've never really gotten scratches on them. I tried once to use one on my iPad but it ruined the experience too much.

The fact you never got one before is meaningless really, you just had a good innings.
I have to respectfully disagree with your comment. It is meaningful, since I used iPhone since 3g model, and the way I've been using the device is pretty much the same, no different in any way, and none of the previous phones had any scratch on the glass but this new 6S+...so that's to the point - meaning this glass is not as durable, plain and simple.

So if I never dropped a phone in 15 years but then did so, what does it say? That my new phone is more droppable?

Thanks, exactly same with me, never used any of the screen protectors and was fine, except 6S+ new "durable" glass...it's too late to get screen protector, it's scratched so I'm gonna live with that...I'm not upset or anything, this is the phone, I don't really care, but just the fact that newer phone scratches easily while older models never did (with the same usage) bothered me...

I have never put a deep gouge into a screen protector before but I did the other day. For some reason I felt a grain of grit underneath my finger as I swiped the screen. I was so happy that I had a protector on.

absolutely not, you are mixing different things that are not in the same category. dropping your phone and breaking the glass has nothing to do with my post. besides, you can drop differently, and more strong glass could shatter if you drop harder, and less strong could survive the 10ft drop...then what would you say? stronger glass drops harder and has more pull by the gravity?

I'm just saying that accidents happen and whether they have happened before is a moot point. People complain that iPhone screens scratch easier every single year, so we must be at the point now where merely breathing on them leaves a mark.

Agreed, of course it can be scratched...I've never complained about it though and I always go naked, can't stand cases and screen protectors...but to be honest, breathing on it and getting a mark on it is really worse than my black car that get's scratches even before it goest to wash LOL

I'm sure you took the best of care with it but clearly at some point a piece of grit got past you and did this. Just because it has not happened before doesn't mean there's something wrong with all iPhone 6s and 6S plus screen coatings. Poop happens. My husband doesn't use a screen protector either and he has grit in his pockets but no noticeable scratches on his 6S Plus coating yet. That doesn't mean the costing is scratch resistant either. Sometimes poop doesn't happen. Sorry this happened to you.

Bought iPhone, installed screen protector immediately. All others its just a matter of time and you wish you did. No one is lucky all the time, no one. Its bound to happen, just a matter of when. Just like Sunking 101 said ;)

Mine 6S Plus is scratched, my old 6 plus was too and they are the only phones that ever have done so. Apple use some crap glass or finger print solution compared to other OEMs, doing nothing different from my older iPhones / android phones.

Bad luck is all it is. Also your current phone has more screen to scratch than your previous ones. Going naked is like playing Russian roulette and your current phone ate it this time.

Are you sunking or his brother ? :D
I like this new version of you: wise, educated, full of good sense :p

It doesn't matter if you don't know how the screen got scratched, it did, and you did it. Unknowingly I'm sure, but that is irrelevant. These scratches don't magically appear. Don't blame Apple or the materials.

This is and always has been a very sensitive topic, as each of our phones is exposed to the elements in different ways. This topic is almost like talking about battery life where again, there are in my opinion, just too many variables.

Besides the fact that I choose to risk not using anything, is my number one preference, and that's to Experience the wonderful Tactile Feedback that only comes from Apple's Oleophobic Coating.

The coefficient of drag (CD) is unique to the coating. No other covering provides this type of experience. For me it's absolutely worth it.
