Updated Mavericks to Yosemite couple of nights ago on my mid-09, 6GB, no-SSD MacBook. Absolutely Zero Issues. Like the simpler icons and cleaner fonts. Safari 8 is a little quicker and the old Grey Favorites Bar is finally centered AND LEGIBLE.

I'm glad for you but zero issues for some doesn't mean that Apple did everything well. If some have very serious issues Apple should take care of that, we pay a premium price to avoid issues. I can understand that something goes wrong occasionally, but Apple's silence and apparent disregard about the problem is frustrating to those that can no longer access internet. I think that this would never have happened under Steve Jobs.

Still lower than I think it should be. I can understand though -- my parents don't even know what Mavericks / Yosemite is, and just stay on Mountain Lion (that came with their iMac). No doubt there's a lot of people that are just oblivious to free upgrades, not to mention many users that stay on older versions to remain compatible with specific software.
Very true the other day I got on my in laws Mac and it said they had an upgrade available and I was like oh sweet Yosemtie came out earlier than thought. After clicking on the notification I noticed the upgrade was actually from Mavericks lol they aren't very knowledgable about the operations software and don't really care because they aren't pro users. So your post makes plenty of sense.

What a BS statement. No operating system upgrade has ever given me as much trouble as the upgrade to Mavericks.

I upgraded Linux 20 years ago, at a time when Slackware was still in its 2.x versions, when compiling the kernel yourself was still normal, and X11 configuration was a lottery that could destroy your monitor, and still, that was less stressful than my Mavericks upgrade.

ogod I'm legit laughing right now. What happened, did Mavs blow up your computer?
Also, that username and that comment go quite well together.

I'm finding Yosemite to be a solid upgrade - works well on my Macbook Pro 2011, as well a 2011/12 8GB Mac Mini.

The Mac Mini now has noticeable better performance than Mountain Lion.

The flat UI is very nice too, IMO.

Yosemite is not another Lion, thankfully.

Evidence? I've never seen a computer lag due to a traditional hard drisk. If Apple designed their software that way, that's a really poor design.

After I swapped my HD to SSD on Macbook Pro 2011, I saw significant improvement in my day to day usage of OS X, especially in Parallels.

8GB of RAM is more than enough

Depends what you are using your mac for.

I'm still on snow leopard at home, my work machine is mavericks as of a week ago. I still think snow leopard is the best of all time.

I got a new MBP 15 this August, running Mavericks. Upgraded from a MBP 15 from late 2006, still running Snow leopard (a true work horse). I had maxed out the ram (3 gb) and installed a SSD on my old MBP. There's eight years of technological development between these two machines. But for basic tasks (word, safari, booting up, etc), my new MBP on Mavericks is only marginally faster than my old MBP on Snow Leopard. The only area where I see huge gains in performance is on very heavy tasks (statistics software in my case). I think this attests to the awesomeness and pure functionality in Snow Leopard. I really wish there was a way to install Snow Leopard on new macs as well.

The update has solved most of the problems I was facing on my 2012, particularly lags at startup/user switch and app launch. Word still lags when I copy/paste large text for some reason, but everything else is much smoother.
YMMV

Ha! Word always lags on every Mac. Total cruft from MS. :p

It was easy to move on to Yosemite because I had no particular love for Mavericks. Snow Leopard was still the best version of OS X.

I installed Yosemite on my late 2013 iMac. It couldn't have gone more smoothly. Everything works OK had one or two App updates and everything works fine. Including wireless. It makes me wonder, if those people with problems already had them lurking in the background in Mavericks and Yosemite just found them out!

Adobe and Final Draft Compatibility?

Anyone know if Adobe CS6, Final Draft, and MS Office still work with Yosemite, I know the websites say yes, but I don't trust websites. Irony I know....

only "slightly"?

First week is probably acceptable, but i don't actually see a 'flock of geese" rushing o upgrade like mad here.

Thus, there is some resistance...... I wonder what the main reason is..... As if i didn't know.

16% is pretty low.

The best resource for answering your question is www.roaringapps.com

Neat,, I didn't know they were doing a list for Yosemite as well..

Unfortunately, I hate when web owners only make their websites Chrome or Safari.

Same thing where Apple only allows Safari for watching Live streams, but makes it available for download by all others afterwards..

Limited audience.. But its their site after all.

Same situation my dad is in with his Mac mini, running snow leopard. When they stopped supporting it, I wondered if I should get him to upgrade, but I'm fearful of how he will react to the change in Yosemite, and if Office will require a reinstall, if it works at all.

Microsoft Office works fine.

Exactly, I was only relaying what that guy said on his video but after watching it again he also said he was running Yosemite and also his recording program that he uses to record his videos so maybe it was his recording/capturing program he used that was using so much ram but he made it sound like all 7 GB was used by Yosemite.

Still, I'm going to stay on Mavericks even though I do have 16 GB ram and I have an SSD. I'm still new to the Mac (within the past yr or so) and I've had such a great experience on the Mac Mini coming from Windows that Mavericks has been a great experience and I'm afraid to move on to another one so quickly.

Nice. Welcome to the club.

Yosemite will be waiting for you patiently. ^_^

If you're smart, you'll hold onto to your Mavericks partition.

The boot time alone is maddening to me, but even if I learn to deal with that, it boots to the WRONG DISPLAY and I have to turn on my HDTV every time to just to use my computer. Or leave it on 24/7 and never shut it down. Either way, this is a simple but MAJOR BUG that will keep Mavericks around for me.

I'm also having a problem with MAIL remember passwords since the update. I keep putting them back in, checking the Key Chain over and over. I know I know the right passwords, but they just like Displays WILL NOT STICK.

EPIC FAIL. :(

8GB of RAM is more than enough

12 Gb of RAM is not enough to speed up Yosemite booting.

What more does it want? My first born?

If the crap job they did on iTunes 12 is any indication, I'm not upgrading to Yosemite. Why do they constantly feel the need to change stuff for no reason? The UI for TV was perfectly fine, now it's a buggy mess and it no longer displays the episode descriptions unless you view it via some hideous sidebar thing. WTH were they thinking? I hate to see the direction Apple has gone in the last year, but I'm ready to bail and go back to Windows.

I wouldn't go back to Windows, but it's no lie that Yosemite is a bloated mess.

Why else would it take almost an hour to install on a MAC PRO?

Apple's new and improved method of software distribution for VERY LARGE programs is a complete joke.
