Virtually nothing, because if they are not making money and getting their piece of everyones pie, then it will be halted. Like drones, vapor, and now wearables.
I was under the impression anything that offered advice needed to be approved by FDA.

I really like my FitBit Charge HR. Seems liek this is exactly he same, except it's actually a watch face. I'm not sure why people are trying to compare it to the Apple Watch seeing as they not even in the same category of wearable. the FitBit is is for fitness the Apple Watch is a "smart watch" with fitness like features.

To those commenting saying its ugly, I can't say I disagree but have seen the Apple Watch? ha it's pretty ugly and odd too.

Simplicity, ease of use, and probably a good battery life. Too bad it's fugly.

But more competition for Apple, Apple 2 better stand out for that price point. Does anyone really use the sketch app? Only iphone users who have bought into an apple watch can use them. Apple should make an Andriod compliant version.

The Apple watch is just too expensive, I can't even justify the lowest end option there. This however looks promising. I have the Charge HR already, I'd gladly swap it out for this. :)

This is the fundamental problem with the apple watch in my opinion. Would you want to do all those things on your watch? I'm sure some of you would, but are they really all that good of a user experience?

Se that's the thing...

While all of that is super fancy, convenient and a luxury, I'd much rather have amazing health tracking. I currently have an Apple Watch Sport, have had it for a month now and I am still undecided, even with the $100 off from Best-Buy.

I just went to Costco on my Lunch Break and picked up a Fitbit Charge HR for $148 (out the door). I am going to compare it. While I am sure I'll miss some of the cool stuff the Apple Watch does, I want to see if I really need it.

If I am not happy with the Fitbit, I return it to Costco.

If I like the Fitbit more than the Apple Watch, I'll return the Apple Watch (but I only have 10 days from day to return it).

Maybe the AW2 will be everything I need. So indecisive.

How do you like the Fitbit CHR? You find it to be accurate?

How much can be done without a bunch of government interference? At what point does Watch then become an FDA approved device which would slow down speed to market?

That is as much a function of the measuring hardware as the software. In the current configuration there is no need for FDA approval of the watch if Apple would expand the intelligence of their device. Polar and Withings already provide health advice.

It starts to become an FDA matter when the user cam use the device to inform themselves on the treatment of conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes. The current watch is not able to do that.

Disclaimer: I work in medical devices and FDA submissions

Nail on the head. SO many people don't get this concept.

The biggest leap in iPhone history came between the 3GS and the 4. It came because suddenly there was competition in the smartphone market and parsing out overdue hardware/software features like MMS and landscape wouldn't cut it.

Apple felt a legitimate threat in the marketplace and dropped the hammer with a device that blew everything else away. HD Recording, Retina display, Facetime...it was Bob Beamon-esque.

Competition is a good thing. It pushes Apple to improve and be better. The WORST thing for Apple is fans blindly ripping other products sight unseen and telling Apple they'll automatically accept whatever they roll out as superior.

True, but competition to Apple is only competition when they push a product further than Apple did. In terms of hardware there are currently very few or maybe even none that have done so (depends a bit on what you are looking for of course). Where Apple hopefully feels some sting is in the software department.

We need smartwatches to tell us things we wouldn't be able to work out ourselves. I don't need a watch to tell me I walked 5000 steps and need 5000 more to reach my goal. I need a watch to tell me "you need to walk for 60 minutes or run for 30 minutes in order to burn 300 calories and stay on target for your weight loss of 400 grams this week, today you ate 4000 calories and you metabolized 3700 today". The Apple Watch can do this today. It is just a choice of implementing it.

Nope, ofc no Apple Watch or Apple TV :D Only stuff in beautiful white-and-silver boxes with names beginning with an "i" like iPad, iPhone and iMacBook Pro. :)

Better take back the iMacBook Pro, as it's just the MacBook Pro lol.

I also don't like the aTV, I prefer the Roku 3 or 4.

No GPS =( that's a deal breaker for me. The 5 hour battery life is impressive though. I love my Fitbit Surge and I don't see upgrading to this worth it. Since it doesn't have GPS I'd rather go for the Apple Watch.

Now those wearers will have to start getting used to hearing "Is that the Apple Watch?"
i got that question all the time with my original pebble. i always said yes. now i have an apple watch and when people ask i say no
[doublepost=1452028191][/doublepost]i used to own a fitbit force and it was total piece of crap. i don't see the appeal of most of their products. they are nothing but pedometers. the thing i liked most about fitbit was their online community.

That's their biggest problem. It's entire reason for existence is fitness tracking and it is wildly inaccurate for Heart Rate

I agree, it was disappointing when I found that during tough cardio workouts it would report a heart rate normally seen at fast walk. Step counting is great but I was expecting much more.

With my Withings Activite Pop having problems in just 5 or so months, am very much interested in another tracker.

Also does anyone know on Apple Watch2's whereabouts?
I'd love to wait for version 2 above all else.

What problems are you having with it? I have had zero problems with my Activite in almost a year of ownership.

I love the long battery life and waterproof feature. I never remove the watch off my wrist. Step tracking, sleep tracking, swim tracking and syncs to the Apple Health app. It doesn't have all the features of the FitBit, but I will trade more features for 5-8 months battery life and waterproof anytime.

I honestly don't care about the "fitness" tracking functions. Most people I've seen who wear these devices are all not in shape and pretentious. If fitbit can bring out features similar to Android wear and Apple watch then I'll be sold.

And please, improve the design. These are just so ugly. I'd rather buy a Samsung watch Gear S2 over any of these.

Product name doesn't begin with lowercase 'i', doesn't come in beautiful white box with embossed big silver apple. No buy.

then I supposed you haven't bought the Apple TV, Apple Watch and Macbook.

So it's a nicer screened Surge w/o GPS or a more expensive Charge HR? Honestly $199 or $250 for a single purpose activity band is too expensive in 2016. Garmin's new low and mid-model Forerunners monitor daily activity but also are great running watches. Not sure I understand the market unless it's the "I want an activity band that doesn't look like one." Problem is this looks rather amateur-ish. The current Pebble looks nicer.

Battery. Life.

the GPS isn't on all the time, people will just have to learn to charge their devices before and after a run, not that big a deal plus they should be able to make this thing charge super fast
