Sadly, our location information is hardwired into the cell modem and cell towers such that the only way to be anonymous is to turn off any and all modern mobile electronics. Cameras are everywhere and the satellites can see if you shaved today.

And by the way, the auto industry knows where you are in all the recent models and is selling that information.

Guessing that for truly confidential conversations in the future, folks will have to be nude in a space with walls of some sort and a roof of some sort (like tree foliage) and talk in a whisper.

AI is the dream of any dictator as we can read about in Orwell's 1984. We are nearly there and AI will fill in the cracks for information.

Glad in many ways to be 80 as I really do not think Big Brother will be friendly. Human nature being what it is.

I have watched a few shows that have talked about the letters written during the US Civil War by soldiers to their families. An actual historical document that gives us today an image of that time.

I have not received a letter and or ThankYou note in years. Everything is electronic like email or texts. If there is a future, there sure will be no discernible records recording how the folks today were thinking.

Welcome to all that AI is capable of and much that has not been disclosed to the populations.

This is what happens when a company is forced to come out with a new iteration of a product every single year. There weren’t enough hardware advances, so they had to emphasize AI. But AI wasn’t mature enough either.

Thankfully for Apple, their marketing is so good that it doesn’t hurt them much.

Note that this is not an AI feature - it’s a machine learning feature that is supported on a wide variety of devices including ones that are not AI capable.

None of this is actually AI ...

The term "Artificial Intelligence" is being grossly and inappropriately misused by all these companies right now, as it helps them push a narrative that these tools are FAR more capable than they actually are

Yeah, like more hit pieces showing Apple is a failure heading towards bankruptcy?

No, that’s preposterous (say that to Pan-Am). No, seriously. More focus on what they are NOT good at, without bashing them (why I say critical journalism). Not just fluff pieces (which there has been much of late).

Seriously, Apple IS lagging behind on software and… not really much talk about it.

80 you say?? Your profile picture suggests otherwise, congrats on that, sir, most certainly. Ok, yes, so I see what you’re driving at here, but I have a different take…long story short, we don’t need dusty old temples and preserved papyrus scrolls to tell us about our past because….well, let’s just say that to me, at least, my personal power and information is safe from any prying eyes or technological tools of investigation…dark times are practically destined for us, yes, BUT, just as all true thought both precedes and Follows action, so too does benevolence fully envelop cruelty and spiteful hearts…although, sure, yes, many times it certainly doesn’t feel that way…

The photos app has natural language searching and yes, you can say (or type) “photos of my cat taken in 2016 by the well in Surrey” and presuming you have some, that’s what you’ll see.

It does take some time after you first upgrade for the ML indexer to process all of your photos - for me it took a week. It also only happens at night, when the device is locked, plugged in and connected to WiFi.

Once the existing collection has been processed, new ones are processed as they’re taken.

You’d also want to go into People and Pets and give names to the faces and dogs/cats that were identified.
No, I’m referring to having Siri search your photos. I know that you can do a manual search in the Photos app, but you used to be able to ask Siri to look for them and it could. Now all you get when you ask siri is web images of what you asked for.

The UK is in Europe but not the EU to the poster above which is why we have AI and the EU doesn’t due to their additional and onerous tech regulations. Cookie acceptance rsi anyone?
He posted Europe, not E.U, there are some people who think Europe is the E.U.

Oh yes, very annoying the cookie thing,

There have been a couple of instances where AI has given me impressive results. Copilot with Claude Sonnet has been getting really good, and audio transcribing and summarization with ChatGPT is really something. After trying that Plaud recording device I was amazed at how good it was.
Claude is this thing that Amazon want to stick on Alexa and get people to pay for it, not going to bother myself, Alexa does what I need, I really don;lt want to hold a conversation with a machine.

If the Chat GPT thing is not enabled on Mac/IOS, then what is it that Apple Intelligence use?

I don't even know who owns Claude.

Can they fix the horrible Siri on my iPhone 13?
If I were you, I would cover it whatever Siri does on your iPhone 13. So far whether they're running the current version or the latest beta which today is 18.3, Siri is no better than actually seems a little bit worse and more confused than it was before we started this marketing campaign for Apple ignorance, sorry whatever they're calling it. Also be glad that you can still copy and paste from my email or text message, without some ridiculous multichoice questionnaire, opening up adding extra layers of button presses as I try to find copy paste. Of course, you're missing out on your phone, offering to rewrite your messages with different moods, but at the end of the day you'll still be dismayed because no matter what mood you have it rewrite, and it just gets worse than what you had. In short, most of these features are not working. Tim Cook, marketing team, engineers, why not just Holt where you're at right now and fix everything you've already rushed to market. Between this, and the botched dictation on my MacBook Pro 14 M4 still not working properly. I'm seriously thinking surface pro with the elite X chip and an android phone.

Apple uses its own artificial neural networks and more restricted LLMs running on its devices for most of its Apple Intelligence operations. However, it can send requests to ChatGPT through Siri. It will ask permission before doing so.

I don't even know who owns Claude.

Anthropic, an AI company started by ex-OpenAI employees.
