The transition will be painful for wired CarPlay, since a USB-C iPhone will need an adapter to connect to a USB-A port in cars.

The USB-C to USB-C cable that would be included would be no good since most cars have USB-A ports, and any lightning to USB-A cables would be useless, too.
It already includes USB-C cable. For the last 3 (soon to be 4) iPhones. You know this right? They stopped including USB-A cables years ago.

Edit: LMAO, we downvote facts now.

Right, but how will you connect an iPhone 15 with USB-C to a car with a USB-A port, if the only cable that the iPhone will include is a C to C, not a C to A? Most cars don’t have USB-C ports yet.

What the heck are you talking about. EVERY IPHONE ALREADY COMES WITH USB-C to LIGHTNING. YOU CAN'T CONNECT ANY OF THEM TO A USB-A PORT.

It doesn't matter what port is on the iPhone. You still can't connect a USB-C cable to a USB-A port. iPhone 15 will be able to use USB-A to USB-C cables just like iPhone 14 can use USB-A to Lightning cables. Neither of which come with either phone.

The second back pack is for the power bricks, dongles and adapters for all the permutations of USB-A, USB-C, & Lightening including the micro-usb for the Android and Windows world.

The so called good news is having USB-C on all new products. The bad news is ALL of the now obsolete variations of Lightening cables and devices get a trip to a land fill somewhere.

Yay time to flood landfills with all the lightning products that will suddenly be useless. Adapters, cables, older products that may still use lightning.

I'm so glad I will be forced to pay a ton of money to buy all new stuff. Thanks EU! Thanks for helping me spend my money and throw out stuff. What a great time to do it too! Hey inflation is on the rise and maybe a recession. Lets now force people to replace all their expensive lightning devices. Way to look out for the rest of us.

Maybe I can just send a check to the EU instead of them getting a payout from whoever greased their palms to do this.

Bingo. If my next iPhone has USB-C, then:
  • My current USB-A charger brick will either require a new A-to-C cable, or will need to be replaced with a C charger.
  • The A-to-Lightning cable in the car will need replacement.
  • The A-to-Lightning cable from my Mac to its keyboard will no longer be able to be used with the phone (currently you can just switch the cable from the keyboard to the phone, which makes the keyboard immediately swap to Bluetooth).
I'm just one person and that's already at least three new cables required to retain the same functionality I have now.

Won't happen but sure would be nice for some kind of trade-in program that gives a discount on new cables so those old cables could be recycled properly and we could get new cables at less of an expense.

You’re not understanding my point. Up until now, people could use the lighting to USB-A cables they had with their old iPhones to connect to their cars even on their newer iPhones because they all have lightning. Starting with the 15, that will no longer be the case. Hence why I believe the transition would be painful.

You could just buy a USB-A to USB-C cable. Not that painful ;)

Oh we understand, but the point is that it doesn’t matter.
If you’ve bought an iPhone in the last two years or so, it has came with a lightning to USB-C cable. It doesn’t matter what they used to ship with, the point is that if you buy an iPhone today, you don’t get a USB-A cable. that’s not changing.
If you need a C to A cable, there are plenty of really cheap ones on Amazon that you can get

Yes all the devices you currently own will suddenly have usb c on them and you will have to immediately get rid of your lightning cables. Also every other device on the market with type c means you probably have absolutely no type c wires lying around.

Hopefully, they put the USB-C charging port on the FRONT edge of the Mouse instead of the bottom like the current Lightning port is.
Putting it on the bottom means you can't use it while it's charging.
Just use the trackpad whilst the mouse is charging or failing that just charge the mouse overnight when you are not using it.That’s what I’ve always done.Never been an issue for me.A full charge lasts months anyway.
