I know I'm just one person and bound to receive plenty of "Bye Felicia," type responses, but I'm tired of this. Every Apple device needs to drop lightning and move to USB-C now. I'm not buying anything Apple produces anymore unless it's USB-C and that includes the iPhone.

You’re not understanding my point. Up until now, people could use the lighting to USB-A cables they had with their old iPhones to connect to their cars even on their newer iPhones because they all have lightning. Starting with the 15, that will no longer be the case. Hence why I believe the transition would be painful.
Painful? An A-to-C cable is like $5.

Drop a usb c device on the connector part? Game over for the connector. Either way I can’t wait for this transition. Now chop chop

Imagine your 90 year old parent just keeps it plugged in, and then one day it goesn't work. they'll think the mouse is broken, instead of trying to charge it. It was a deliberate design decision, and Apple isn't going to take it back because they made an oops.
JFC. I'm just trying to imagine the absolute soul crushing feeling that must have come over those poor Apple engineers as they were engaged in the stand-up meeting where they came up with that charging port's convoluted design, realizing that it is all because some elitist a$$hat was concerned that someday some "oldster" somewhere might try to return a mouse because they didn't know it was wireless.

That is some impressive spin.

That upside down mouse charging port is one of the stupidest design decisions Apple has done, at least Logitech have some common sense and put the USB-C connector on the front so it acts as a corded mouse temporarily. Can't believe they signed of on that mouse thinking it was a great idea 🤣

USB C should have been introduced in 2013.
Would have been difficult because the first USB-C items came out in 2016. That's why Apple went Lightning in the first place. USB-C wouldn't be ready for a number of years and Apple couldn't wait. But once they made the commitment to Lightning, they had to stick with it.

Right, but how will you connect an iPhone 15 with USB-C to a car with a USB-A port, if the only cable that the iPhone will include is a C to C, not a C to A? Most cars don’t have USB-C ports yet.
Adapters are about $7 on Amazon for USB-C to USB-A and vice versa.

The issue with USB-C is the fragile outer shell. It can’t be just carelessly poked into a device. People will have to learn to be careful I guess.

Did he forget Siri Remote? That thing is the missing puzzle of getting rid of Lightning completely.

Maybe they'll put the port on the mouse on the edge so you can actually use it while charging instead of the brain-dead bottom port.

One would think so, wouldn’t one? But as of late their design team have been absolute trash, from hardware to software (mostly software). Wouldn’t surprise me if they did put it on the bottom.

Ten years after Apple switched from 30 pin to lightning and people lament the move away from lightning to usb-c..? Finally cables that have the same head on both sides. Evolved charging speeds.., and we are finally seeing things moving completely wireless.

Anxiety about evolving with technology yet still reading technology articles looking for a place to express distress over baby steps forward.

Moving forward must be damn near impossible as a juggernaut…

The transition will be painful for wired CarPlay, since a USB-C iPhone will need an adapter to connect to a USB-A port in cars.

Yeah, because we all know the world has a crippling shortage of USB-A to USB-C cables. Why don’t they produce more of them?! /s

The USB-C to USB-C cable that would be included would be no good since most cars have USB-A ports, and any lightning to USB-A cables would be useless, too.

Many new cars already come with USB-C ports. And wireless CarPlay, for that matter.

disgusting, if the iphone 14 still ships without usb-c. But I read a nice article about Apple and its customerbase recently.
Lot of those customers seem to be driven by Apples marketing and they just want to buy something new from Apple. Even if the iP14 will be a boring update, lots of people will buy it.
