Sounds like five laptops in five shades of color. Get an orange MacBook to match your orange Shuffle. Makes sense. Hopefully there's a speed bump in there too.

One for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

And at the weekend?

On Saturday, the Shabbos, an OLPC for rest, not work.

On Sunday, the Sabbath, a Dell 20incher 'laptop' for carrying to church and back. The Dell is for bodily mortification, and to teach us the holy virtues of a sleek Apple design. (for G-D rested on a Sunday and created nothing worth keeping.)

i really think that this is going to happen

i think there will be macbook updates and the macbook slim to be introduced

there have been so many rumors in the past week for this

:apple: :apple: :)

I have my doubts, but heres to hoping. That would be incredible, and there are a lot of times that MR gets things right ( when its the day before release sorta thing :) )

This would make me very happpy. I am ready to upgrade my 12" PB to a Macbook. I wonder what the specs would be with 5 SKU's. Arn can you give any more detail to the tip? Has this source been solid in the past?

Does the word MacBook here also include the Pro's too?

I would imagine that either we are getting in fact 5 new MacBooks (3 new 13's and 2 new 15's) or this means that we are getting 3 new MacBooks and 2 new MBP's with LED's (and the 17 remains the same for the time being, perhaps getting updated at WWDC).

none of the rumors for a slim Macbook called for it any sooner than Fall 2007 or even MWSF 2008. don't expect it anytime soon, if ever, unless you want to be disappointed. if you are going to trust rumor sites, they imply this will be a moderate update (speed bump). it doesn't even sound like *any* Macs will have the LED based displays for months. maybe those rumors were wrong and everything is going LED backlight except the 17" MBP.

the jump from 3 to 5 MacBook models is odd, though there maybe be some sort of standard (non-BTO) add-on option(s) for the two faster models (currently 2.0 GHz). that would explain 5 model numbers. in the past Apple has taken the top PowerBook and offered a version with a bigger/faster HDD and loaded down with RAM, and those were in stock in stores. they were tagged with a different model number. it could be something that simple.
i know they stocked them because a friend of mine picked one up at an Apple store because they were out of the standard version.

The pro is what interests me as well, but if they intro a macbook with 15.4 inch screen I'll be more than happy.

Of course I'll still want the pro...I want to look at somethign for now though.

Has anyone ordered a Macbook in the past 24-48 hours and had an unusually long ship date estimated? This fact would help validate this rumor a bit.

Actually, maybe it'd just be the new Touchscreen iMac Wedge with a handle

I'm sure there's something in the bible about that one....

New Macbook Pro please!! Macbooks were updated after Macbook Pros in November. Pro's are wayyy past due! Macbooks in 5 different colors? I think that is dumb.
I agree, but it may because the MacBook updates will be minor, as put forth by Appleinsider. Perhaps new colors. Perhaps a small bump in the processor, graphics, etc.

Hopefully the long lag time of MBPs means that Apple's got some exciting new technologies in the works: LED screens, Robson, new case, 3G capability, etc.

New Macbooks?

My thoughts exactly 05elstonc. I just went to the online Apple Store and checked each version of MacBook and MacBook Pro. They were all available within 24 hours. I could be wrong but don't think so.

and apple is laughing at MS for having all those different versions of vista? haha, jokes

seriously, I dont think well see updates tomorrow. apple has been all about the iPhone lately, I think we'll have to wait til after wwdc for both of em. but my fingers are still crossed

I'm thinking it can't be new MBP models, as we'd need 6 SKUs then...

Which means we get two 15" models! I'd rather buy a higher end MBP system with a better GPU...but if the Pros don't have user replaceable hard drives, then a 15" Macbook would be the next best thing for me.

Apple has REALLY needed 15" Macbooks for the past year. $2000 is too high to start sizes larger than 13".

1. low end 15" white MacBook with Santa Rosa platform
Specs: 1GB, 120GB hard drive, 64MB X3000 graphics, $1499

2. high end 15" black MacBook with Santa Rosa platform
Specs: 1GB, 160GB hard drive, 64MB X3000 graphics, $1599

3. low end 13" white MacBook with Santa Rosa platform
Specs: 512MB, 60GB, 32MB X3000 graphics, $999

4. high end 13" black MacBook with Santa Rosa platform
Specs: 1GB, 120GB, 64MB X3000 graphics, $1399

5. mid end 13" white MacBook with Santa Rosa platform
Specs: 1GB, 80GB, 64MB X3000 graphics, $1199

Total Speculation

EDIT: Maybe LED displays too for the mid to high end models.

They are merely new MB configurations, not new designs. That SR thing you all have been gushing about will finally be yours in just under 12 hours.

If it is indeed only the MB's and not the MBP's, I'm in the camp saying it will be a 15in white, and 15in black (remember, we heard this a while back), probably priced at 1499/1749 US. This will put the low end 15in at the same price as the high end 13in, and put the high end 15in between that and the 15in MBP. Kind of like how the 8GB nano is the same price as the 30 GB full size iPod.

theres no need for different color MB im thinking MBP gets an SR update...but then what will WWDC become an OS X convention??

Here's hoping my MacBook gets lost in shipping on the way back from repair then. Heh.

Seriously, though, 5 models sounds like either extra colors or a bigger (or smaller) model with two configurations.
