Let's not be overly dramatic about this. It isn't a "huge" problem. It's annoying but it isn't the end of the world. My phone suffers from the popping but it isn't rendering the device useless. I am anxious for a fix but let's not be overly dramatic.
I’n not being dramatic, i’m just being honest and realístic. The main function of a cellphone is to make calls. We are in 2017 and when I buy one for more than 1000$ and I can’t make one single call without hearing loud metallic popping sounds, what do you want me to say? That i’m happy?I am not.

After reading Apple’s statement and specifically their claim of small numbers, are they in fact saying that most devices do not suffer from this? In that case wouldn’t the software solution simply be a circumvention of a hardware flaw found in a “small number of cases”?

I have the same problem here on 256GB 8+ Gold here in New Zealand. Is this a software issue? Hardware issue? Apple really haven't been helpful about this!

I think they are going to mask the hardware issue if that's the case.

You are being overly dramatic. If the phone was completely unusable or almost unusable then I’d agree with you. The popping is no more than an annoyance that will hopefully be remedied soon.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t be unhappy about it, I’m saying you need to not over react.

Looks like Apple says everything is software related and they’ll have a fix.

I would feel the same way. I expect more out of Apple. If it was a new phone company that came out of nowhere, that would be a different story.

I just replaced my iPhone 8 Plus and it's working perfectly!

Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself haha - but no static noise anymore.
Good to hear! Where did you get it? Notice if the build dates are any different? Thanks

I got it at the Apple store in Florida. I actually went in there to exchange it for a 7 Plus and the guy said he was really sorry and that we should try to do an even exchange for an 8 Plus.

My original phone was unlocked, but since I’m on Verizon he gave me one of their phones unlocked (Space Gray/64GB) and I popped my old SIM card in to make a call to test it out. Everything’s working properly so far.

I was considering throwing my hat into the ring for the X, but I have NO DOUBT in my mind that thing is going to be riddled with issues.

10 total calls and still no issues. Like I said earlier, my wife’s 8 Plus does not have this issue, so part of me thinks it could be hardware (since I’m not having the issue either with the exchanged phone). I’m just glad mine is working properly now...But hopefully Apple can fix everyone else’s phone via a software update.

Interesting. I’m in Florida as well. Tempted to have it replaced.

Like I said though...this is my THIRD phone because I had no idea if it was hardware or software and did not want to fall outside of my 14 day return window so I kept exchanging. The first two (from the same store) had the issue. Total luck on my end that it worked out this time.
I think if no fix by Apple this week I will take the Phone Arena & Verge article to my Apple Store & have them replace it. Luckily, after my recent MBP issues the Lead Tech at my local store is super friendly & helpful.

Mine worked fine the entire day I got it replaced. Following day the static came back. Report back!

Have my 8+ boxed up and ready to ship back. Not only does mine have the crackling earpiece issue, it also has a speck of dust/dirt behind the rear camera lens. I'm almost leaning towards a Note 8 or S8+.. or just keep rocking my jailbroken 6s+..

I would just swap it out but none of the ATT stores near me have any 256GB Space Gray 8+ in stock.

I had a strange scratch/vertical line on the underside of my camera lens on my 8 Plus, swapped it out as the Apple Store were super helpful and then I’ve gotten this unit which has the static earpiece issue. I feel your pain haha.
