Hmm, good point. Didn't think of that. If he's getting little personal profit, then yea, no point in dealing with whatever he has to deal with for nothin.

Or worst, I say he was forced to take it down by the government. Kids here don't know what it means to live in those type of society. You simply do not own anything about your existence.

wanna make some real money? Sell your iPhone that has Flappy Bird on it.

(maybe there's a post about this already, but what on earth are people thinking? A few basic 16GB iPhones are up to $10,000 or more because they have that confounded game on there.)

here's one

NOT MINE!

Although, how does that work? isn't the app tied to the appleID? Can you even back the app up to your computer if it's not your appleID that bought it?

Am I the only one to think this app was a money grab, and pulled down because of questionable in-app advertising tactics? 50k/day seems to good to be true. Yank it before advertisers wise up, is my take.

Honestly, you're not missing anything. Though why anyone would turn down 50k/day is beyond me...

He's from Vietnam. He was probably making more money than many of his countries government officials and possibly became a target for some unruly vietnamese gangs.

When I realized that he is from Vietnam (a communist country) it leaves one wondering how much if any of his profits he was really able to keep. I know the man that developed Tetris under communist Russia never saw a penny. I am not familiar with how it works over there so it's pretty difficult to say. If the government is taking the lions share or all of the profits it's kind of difficult to see his incentive to keep the game up at all.

god does anyone know how to fact check? not true. Alexey Pajitnov was working for the government when he developed Tetris, so naturally he wasnt eligible to earn any royalties on a government codebase. after moving to the US he started a new Tetris company and earned royalties.

so what you are implying is that he makes 50k VND a day? Apparently you have no idea how high-cost the economy is now.

that amounts to only $2.35 USD a day, and considering the economy in vietnam right now, prices has skyrocketed. That is barely anything in vietnam now

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was $50k US. Geeze, do you honestly believe they would call it "quite the cash cow" if it were $2.35 US a day? Is that all the more money the #1 iTunes ad-revenue game right now is making? Give me a break.....

Look up how much you can make if your videos go viral on YouTube even. It's a bit more than $2.35 a day and that's easier to do than writing a #1 rated game. This guy would not be making CNN news if he was making $2.35 a day.... Get real people!

It's FAR more likely he's worrying about getting sued by Nintendo. That's a very real possibility if they think you've ripped off their artwork and this possibility (cease and desist) has been mentioned by most of the news stations as the possible reason. He's too stressed? How is he stressed? Is he being hounded by fans at his house like a rock star? I doubt it. Hounded by lawyers I could believe, OTOH.

The attitudes on display in this thread alone would be enough to make me consider quitting if I was a developer.

Who cares if he took it down? His game, his decision. Not everyone creates for the money. Some people are just intensely private and create for fun, not for money or attention.

Thanks for that tidbit of information. I learned something today. As appreciative as I am for the new information, it would have been a nicer to see the information presented in a more polite manor. Starting a statement with "god does anyone know how to fact check?" isn't exactly keeping in spirit with the positive nature of this site. It does nothing to edify the community.
Thank you again for the info though. Believe it or not, I do appreciate it.
Cheers.

Edit:
Here is what my fact checking dug up.
Here it states that he did not see anything from the original release (which is the release I was referring to) of Tetris. The Soviet government promised to revisit the issue in a decade however after the collapse of the soviet government, so collapsed the promises of compensation for the game. He secured the rights to the name Tetris later and released newer titles after moving to the United States.

You'll never get it back! I think unless you have it synced to your iCloud/iTunes (not too sure about that though)

Once you downloaded it and delete it you can still download it again from your purchased items. I got it right before they pulled it, deleted it and it was in my purchased items and I re downloaded it

Waaaaaa every one is buying my game so I get lots of money from ads...... waaaaaaa

What a baby. Hire people to work for you and answer calls/emails and stop acting like a child.

Never even heard of it until I saw the "mans" quotes crying about how no one will leave him alone. Glad I didn't contribute to any of his earned ad revenue.

I want negative voting back because your pointless nasty post deserves it.

Since he is from Vietnam he especially can't buy peace of mind with money that he doesn't have because the communist country he is a citizen off potentially took it all.

... Vietnam / China is nothing like the 1960s/70s. Vietnam is a booming capitalist country with a communist government. McDonalds just moved into town a couple days ago!

I didn't know this. Thank you for the info. That is good news for the folks that live there for sure. As far as the McDonalds goes, there goes the neighborhood.

1) Nintendo doesn't care:
Nintendo spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa on Monday reiterated previous company statements that the Japanese videogame giant hasn’t complained at all about Flappy Bird’s similarities to Nintendo’s original “Super Mario Bros.”
“While we usually do not comment on the rumors and speculations, we have already denied the speculation” last week, he said.
http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/02/10/no-complaints-about-flappy-bird-nintendo-says/

2) The game that people said that he stole from plays very differently: http://gandhirules.com/site/blog/gamedev/flappy-bird-isnt-a-copy-precisions/

The cactus of PiouPiou don’t kill.
The pipes of Flappy Bird do kill.
-
Flappy Bird keeps the same speed forever, making it always possible and linked to user control’s skill.
PiouPiou has a faster speed over time, making it impossible after a time, making it impossible
-
The average length of a flappy bird game is 10 seconds.
The average length of a PiouPiou game is 1 minute.
-
The pipes are THE DEATH.
The cactus are an obstacle that will bring me to death.
-
There are around 5 seconds of free control in Flappy Bird
There are around 2 seconds of free control in PiouPiou
-
If you reach 100 points in Flappy Bird, you’re a god.
If you reach 100 points in PiouPiou, your skill is quite ok.
-
PiouPiou has 4/5 power ups, which makes them to be “understandable” and nicely tuned by the player.
Flappy Bird is simple and has no power ups : only user input.
-
PiouPiou’s bird has a linear fall gravity after no input, you don’t touch means you have some time to recover.
Flappy Bird has an exponential fall gravity after no input. You don’t touch means the bird will fastly die.
-
You can’t find PiouPiou on iOS nowadays, and can’t compete live with your friends at work or in a coffee.
Many people and student play FlappyBird together in real places.
-
PiouPiou judges you at the end of a game “not bad”, “you could do better”.
Flappy Bird doesn’t judge your skill. Just saying game over, and even reward with a medal if you had it.
-
PiouPiou doesn’t record your best score.
Flappy Bird does record your best score and allows you to aim something.

I don't get it, everyone is criticizing him over reasons involving money. Nowadays people have highly devalued privacy and such. :(

Anyways, I think we do need to consider the fact that the developer lives in Vietnam. Who knows what kind of things he has to handle given his success and the communist government there.

That is an angle I at least, hadn't considered.
