oh man...

too late for me to download it them :p

Seriously though the guy says he doesn't want this attention, but doesn't give a valid reason why he removed it, only he never did it because of legal reasons..

ok, but whats the real reason ?

Besides, the guy had a whole lot of money. rather than hiding in shame, he should be proud of himself of a 'free' app.. The fact he said "he is not interested in selling it" has nothing to do with it, since it was free anyway. He he wanted to charge he would have like any other app.

Its not clever marketing that he removed it, just stupid.

why not continue ? its not about greed, its about making an app available to everyone can download

... This is the kind of thing that says "ok. i have my money, now i'll run"

he should have kept the app up, This, he is not doing ...

as for all the other excuses that doesn't point to a real situation........ its all BS. otherwise he would have been honest

He doesn't have to give a reason. Doesn't owe anyone anything.

We don't know anything about the financial situation of the app. There's one report ESTIMATING $50,000 a day from ad revenue that was blown out of proportion. Also, just because it's a free app does not mean it has no value to an investor. Can be monetised fairly easily.

Its not clever marketing that he removed it, just stupid.

It's neither. It was his choice, he's entitled to it.

He doesn't want to. It's his prerogative.

No one paid anything monetary for this app. He can't do a runner from no payments. As for ad revenue, there's no confirmation he actually receives anything at all.

It may very well be but it's entirely up to him. Don't see why you're all worked up about it. It's a stupid simple app that got overhyped and now gone. End of.

Cannot confirm this, but report says he committed suicide. Sad if true

How fragile does one have to be to let internet attention push you away from a successful project? As someone mentioned yesterday, it's not like the developer was getting harassed in the streets...just get a new email address and collect the money for a rainy day fund.

Seems silly to let an opportunity like this go to waste, but to each her own.

Think about it this way - coders aren't coders because they do well with people.

I think all of this was just a PR/marketing stunt with the ultimate goal to create artificial urgency and maximum downloads in the shortest time. Admittedly, successful stunt.

Anyway, I find the game extremely one-dimensional and boring. Also the "pixel art" is uninspired and blatantly plain/basic. I'm actually impressed how it got popular in the first place.

App deleted.

Well put. The developer probably understands that this game is depth-less and a passing fad. By creating a 'rush' to make people download it, he could be making a bit more money on short-term ad servings. Plus, now he doesn't have to invest more time on supporting it.

I believe this is what you call a hit-n-run.

He was making $50 000/day in Vietnam...if you take into account that lands economy and weigher, it would be as an American developer would earn
$1000 000 000/day.

Maybe cool for the first few day, but not when your name is plastered over the international media, because than you become a sitting duck for "family", "friends" and later some organized and "unorganized" crime figures.

Once your name is known, it doesn't take long for anyone to match it to a face. Friends and family members are most of the time no specialist in keeping their mouths shut.

That would be a bigger problem than people just spamming your mailbox or some tech journalist complaining about your game.

btw, highest score is 7 on Flappy Birds ;-p

I think it is absolutely stupid to become a developer who releases apps/games to the public then bitch about the notoriety. I would bet 10 years of income that no developer who is creating apps or games for iOS is hoping to do so without success. I've never heard of such an inane concept. This guy creates a game that somehow makes it to the top of the charts and suddenly has a problem with it. My guess is when it became such a damn joke that the game was ruining lives, more and more people downloaded it. I know I passed it up until that point.

So this kid is crying about how no one would leave him alone. Awesome. The best thing you can do in life is create **** on your own time and your own dime and hope to never make a buck. I'm sure that's what every one is thinking.

I believe that the claim to take it down and thus the carry out of such threat was a PR stunt. If it was ruining his life he would have silently taken it down and then issued a public statement. This threat had intended consequences and hopeful success, it did not disappoint.

I don't think he is sitting there feeling relief. I think this is some kid sitting back smiling that he successfully trolled the internet. Good for him. We should all be so lucky as to make a ton of cash in a short amount of time and then be able to cry about it with a straight face. He'll be back, as will this game.

So by your marketing logic it's better for him to increase profits from $50k/day to let's say $75k/day for a day or two before flat-lining... instead of keeping the money piling in for a few more weeks

i guess i should have downloaded it to iTunes on computer

oh well. he'll try and sell it and then it will be passed along.

i think i will switch to airplane mode when playing just so he won't be bothered with any ad revenue

I downloaded it on my iPhone as soon as I heard the news. Since my kids are under my account, they were still able to download it Sunday evening under the "purchased" tab.

I can confirm that's a BS website, much like the one that "reported" the guy who was in charge of the Olympic ring malfunction getting killed. Please don't link unless you're sure of the source.

I knocked together a clone in less than 5 hours (I'm not going to release it) trust me when I say that there's very little to support.

The code is incredibly simple.

:eek:seriously???

Foolish act

I really can not understand why Flappy birds'developer got frustrated?
It seems having good business, well now it is removed it means it will come by a paid pakage.App store has many entertaining and educational apps, where my app www.cactacstudios.com also available there. You all can check it out also.

He deserve peace, but if he doesn't want the money, he can always donate it to a good cause.

Its apparent that most of the posters in this thread is under 21. The complexities of life alludes you and for this reason you absolutely fail to comprehend this guys personal decision. Besides its one of the most horrible games I've ever played on the app store so I really don't get all of this fuss you all are doing.

Why is this news? There are hundreds of thousands of apps in the App Store. They come they go, developers leave up old versions scattered about the App Store like a wasteland of garbage. This game was not magical or good game play or even remotely good art. I'm over it. Move on.
